Money taken for an essay and customer service U-turn

Hi All,

I'm glad to learn of somewhere I can talk openly to an extent at the moment.

Had money taken for an essay; no big deal. The big deal became though that the lady that encouraged me to use there service in one form and later performed a U-turn with terms and conditions from the trading from named co. has gone on to blackmail me, scary huh?

Sitting at my desk yesterday thinking this can't be real, then a huge wave of stress hit me.

So I had to discuss due to the stress this was creating with my line manager and luckily found her to be supportive. Furthermore because all the phones work provide to us are recorded for compliance and due to the tail end of my experience thus far, she feels it would be appropriate to pull transcripts and pursue further due to the seriousness of its evolved nature.

This is still an odd situation and I'm not entirely sure despite nullify threats from the merchants member of staff with all other stakeholders; I wonder what others despite those I have confinded in will perceive my niavity as and sadly the threats still feel very real and are making me sick.

I need to make a decision by the end of the day ideally.

A few things to I'd like to understand further today:

1. Is this stupidity a likely cultural factor in x company providing essays and the acount manager assigned has been too enthusiastic/stupid?

After my colleague liased with our own customer relations team and then our contact with trading standards to sense check scenario both felt it would be better to engage the police. point 2>

2. Are these companies formed by seasoned lawyers who set up structure then hire opportunists or backpackers who need a couple of quid commission to escape reality to put friendly (initially) voices on scam or is the company like run day to day too by those who registered? Calls and all? Names seem pretty coincidental.

3. Should I too be contacting my bank explaining situation and cancelling the card that I used to pay money to this outfit? What if she tries to threaten other 'customers' through blackmail and looks to keep taking money for cooperation....

NOT GOOD AT ALL

What is the company? Who is "she?" There may be people who can help you here, but you need to be specific.

I am sorry I can't be more specific at the moment as it would be considered 'tipping off' or something should further action have to be taken.

Really stressful !!!!

Would you mind editing back the post to it original title? The new one applied/edited takes away from a more serious matter

This is a forum dedicated to exposing scams. To attempt to help you, I need to know the site/domain in question. If you don't name the entity, you're not helping the forum community, and you certainly won't get help yourself.

Ridiculous. It's the complete opposite of "informative."

OP, if you paid through paypal or some other means, then raise a dispute on paypal. Otherwise, if there are unauthorized charges on your account, then call your bank and dispute those charges as well, providing them the documentation of blackmail and extortion of your money by the service. If the blackmail is severe enough and you have documentation of it, I would lodge a complaint for this website for fraud with your respective governmental entity. Outfits that scam such as this rarely have the legal/monetary clout to lend support to their blackmail claims, but I would do my research about the company first to make sure I was well informed.

1. Is this stupidity a likely cultural factor in x company providing essays and the acount manager assigned has been too enthusiastic/stupid?

- Yes, some cultures are so stupid to the point that their "intelligence" becomes laughable to even the moderately educated in the first world countries. They are mostly stupid which is why they use threats to try and get their way with the student. In their country, intimidation and fear is the best method to make a problem go away, so that is how they treat others as well.

2. Are these companies formed by seasoned lawyers ...

- No, they do not have a single legal consultant on staff. They only pretend to sound legal, since their business has no legal basis in their home country anyway. They copy the TOS from other reputable sites that actually have legal counsel and hope that the same rules can apply in their business. However, since they do not plan on functioning in a legal manner anyway, any legalese you find on their site or service terms are not valid.

This sounds like the typical modus of the scam essay writing companies. They try to blackmail the person after the service has been completed hoping to get more money for the paper through threats of exposure and expulsion from the university. While the OP sounded like she had a pretty good legal team in place to help her and stragetize her defense, I bet that the OP went radio silent because they realized that the company on the other end was non-existent in the sense that the office address does not exist and any email was pinged all over the globe, and the phone number was a VoIP that could not be traced. In other words, the company in question was a phantom. Therefore, there would be no legal remedy for what the OP was experiencing except to ride it out and hope that the company got tired of harassing him/her.

Yup. That's why the only way to really protect yourself from any chance of ever being blackmailed or extorted is to do business only with someone who: (1) lives in a first-world country with a functioning criminal-justice system that aggressively prosecutes those types of crimes, and (2) is willing to provide you with a real name, location, and phone number that can be verified independently to make sure that they're all 100% real.
