Is "ownessays.com" a scam?

I found this site on EssayDirectory.com, and I can't find any information about it, not even after doing a search on here. I've always handed in my essays on time, but I've had some family trouble the last few weeks and neglected to do any work, and now I'm waaay behind on my coursework. I'm desperate. I need to complete a first draft by tomorrow morning. Gulp.

Did you use them in the end?

Definitely sounds like it was a scam. The link for this site is no longer active but it still appears in the search engines when you run a search for it. So I feel confident that the aforementioned original poster did not deal with this company with regards to his paper needs. Since the site was on EssayDirectory before, I presume that the reason why this company is also no longer listed in EssayDirectory is because it was vetted over time and it was discovered that the company was running a scam. Hence its disappearance from the directory and the web search engines altogether. It is important that students learn how to not take the recommendations of anyone when considering a writing service. Even EssayDirectory can have some companies fall through the cracks. These are mistakes that they bother to correct as soon as they discover the problem with the site. It sounds to me like the student did not use the service after all. Since he did not respond to the post of Major, I guess it is safe to assume that he went with another writing service.

I think he/she did use the service actually. There was desperation in the post, as the paper was needed the next morning.

It is not safe to assume that. Major's post came a month after the OP had inquired

It appears that the site has come back online. It is registered with a UK business registration address BUT a US IP server. The address actually pings all over the place, so they are really masking their tracks. Only a company with a lot to hide and too much to lose would go through this complicated type of bother to mislead students. I am guessing the company is under new management, and is back in the business of scamming unsuspecting students.

Pay only if you like the essay? They are running a losing business using that model. All the students can claim they do not like the paper and ask for a refund. I am not sure what a reputable and reliable company would make such a promise to a potential client. That is almost like saying "Take the paper for free". I do not believe a business should be run that way since there are students who would take advantage of this assurance in a hit and run manner.

Obviously, no company really issues refunds just because a customer indicates that he's dissatisfied with the paper. If any company actually makes that kind of claim on its website, it's never anything but a ploy to suck in gullible customers. I guarantee that they require you to submit your credit card info and authorize full payment when you place the order, and that their terms & conditions contain all sorts of ambiguous language about revisions "until you're satisfied" and so forth, and nothing about refunding your money if you're "not satisfied." At best, if you tell any of these companies that you're not satisfied with your essay, you'll be stuck in an endless loop of useless revisions to an essay that's so bad it's completely incapable of being "revised" before they eventualy just ghost you. At worst, you'll be threatened with exposure to your school. Either way, the one and only "guarantee" that you can rely on 100% is that your credit card will definitely be charged in full for the essay and you won't get a refund no matter how bad and unusable the essay is or how dissatisfied you tell them you are with it.
