You farmed out work to TWO scam sites? Bad luck. Here's a hint to spot some of them.

Copy and paste their web text into a word document and then run spell and grammar check through it. If it comes up with a ton of errors, then don't give them your money.

Avoid companies claiming to offer 'top notch' work.

If you paid by paypal or on a credit card, cancel the payment.

Edit ExpertI think that's irresponsible advice.

First of all, a lot of company owners outsource web copy to software people, try to write it themselves to save money, etc. That way, it comes out pretty terrible, but that doesn't mean that they are operating any kind of scam.

Secondly, offering "top notch" work is the same as offering "top notch" anything-- marketing.

A better indication of a scam is to look out for companies that promise "guaranteed A/1:1" work, which is illegal. Even that's not foolproof, though.

The only foolproof test is to order a small sample before committing to a company or writer for more than, say, 2 pages.

If those 2 pages work out, request or otherwise go through that same company and/or writer to complete the assignment.

OK, they might not be scam sites as in acting fraudulently, but otherwise I stand by what I said in terms of them being rubbish.

If a company is unable to recognise poor copy that is riddled with errors, then their ability to produce decent essays is dubious. Outsourcing is fine, but it is the website owner's responsibility to check the copy and ask for corrections. You wouldn't buy a burger from a shop which has got people puking outside it with food poisoning, would you? So why buy an essay from a company that can't be arsed to even check for basic grammar mistakes in their shop window?

I was being a bit tongue in cheek about the use of 'top notch'. However, the use of the term 'top notch' as used by essay sites screams to me that their copy has been written my an ESL speaker. Nowt wrong with ESL speakers of course, but if it's on a site which is pretending to be UK based it is misleading. I can't actually remember the last time I heard anyone use the term top notch (apart from a comedy show based around an Indian family, where it was a bit of a gag).

People do still use the superlative "top notch" in the US. It comes off as square, but not odd, here.

I think it's always wise to be hesitant to judge a book by its cover, even if one has often been proven right. One might even find some good food at a place that happens to have a misspelled menu.

Eh, must be a Brit thing then. In my mind when I read it, it is always with an anglo-indian accent :)

The point about buying essays from sites which have shoddy grammar still stands. The cafe menu analogy is a poor one as you are buying food, not spelling.

Having spent time on this site I've looked at all the companies that have been reviewed as rubbish and those which have had favourable reports. Every site which had poor copy on the website has attracted complaints about the quality of work done. This is a far from rigorous or scientific analysis, but (and I'm not normally one for gambling) I'll bet no one gets a good essay from a website with crap spelling that would satisfy a native English speaker.

I agree that poor web copy a red flag, but it's not a foolproof guarantee of either quality or intention. I also agree that the cafe analogy, yours in the first place, is poor, since it compares apples and oranges. Even when off, such comparisons can be illustrative, though, since the person misspelling the menu is not, on average, the one in the kitchen.

Yeah, but if the owners are too unqualified to know that their food tastes like s-i*, they have no business judging "quality dining" or owning a restaurant in the first place.

Yes, but I'm talking about the cooks.

It happens all the time that people who have no business running a business, get one.

Sometimes, in the case of unqualified owners, it is the cooks who wind up keeping a place going, despite management's best efforts to run it into the ground. Of course, no one can walk that kind of tightrope for very long before gravity takes over. But it does happen.

A superficial scan for red flags is fine, but the only way to know for sure is to test it out yourself.

I think it's better to find a freelance editor on websites like guru 6 writers instead of going to shady websites and hoping those unknown editor(s) would edit your essay beautifully.

FYI, my editor Brian edited my 3000-word essay decently with additional 2000-word comments within 2 days. He's a pro.

Btw - this paper editing experts website appears to be down or closed.

As you asking us or telling us? Either way, hindsight is 20/20 so keep the lessons you learned from this deal for the next time you need to hire a writing service. It is important to understand that looking into the reviews of the company, before you hire them is more important than immediately hiring a company and then asking around. Asking first will always help you avoid problems when it comes to hiring a direct writer or a writing company. It is always better to first be informed, then make your decision.

Whether he was asking us or telling us is a moot point already. The company has taken down its site and is no longer engaged in the business. The server cannot be found anymore. So it is not really important to delve deeper into the previous work results of this company. It doesn't make sense to keep this thread active anymore since they will no longer be causing a problem for the students. Since the domain name is not up for sale, we can assume that this domain name has been retired for some reason. I guess the academic UK act really did put a lot of the scam online companies out of business.

Exactly. I've never understood why so many questions about the legitimacy of companies come only after customers have already paid for their essays.
