primeessays.com SCAMMED ME WITH UNICODE!!!
Hello, this is the first of many notices I will be writing on the internet to explain to you what primeessays.com is doing. I don't know about any others, but prime essays has a nasty little trick, that I am not sure many of you have seen.
I paid around $100 for an essay from them, and received it early. Great! (or not..)
I was nervous so I ran it through several plagiarism checkers, nothing came up.
But since I am slightly tech savvy, I was able to figure out how it was hiding!
The essays are copied from fake sources, and are all plagiarized, but the text is converted to some sort of UNICODE, where the character that is appearing looks the same as an English character, but is actually a different one
A quick lesson on UNICODE. Unicode is a computer language by which any possible character on the computer has a specific ID#. This can be characters from any language, computer language, or symbol.
But some of these characters, although looking the same, have different ID#s. So, this company, copied my essay from a website, and then changed most of the letters (a,b,c,d) to a different unicode character that looks the same (hence the writing still makes sense) but has a different ID#.
Plagiarism checkers use unicode to check for plagiarism. If most of the letters in words are changed, then the program or website cant catch it, since it has no definate match. I was able to manually find the website where it was copied from.
HERE IS HOW TO CHECK YOURS:
1. Copy and paste the text from your received essay to a notepad.
2. Save the notepad as a TXT document, thereby erasing any formatting (since notepad doesn't recognize these characters)
3. When You open it again, you will see hundred or even thousands of ? ? ? where letters should be. This means that your essay has been scrambled and converted to include unicode to fool plagiarism checkers!
So, if this happens, you can be sure that your essay has been plagiarized and should be very careful! Also, when you copy/paste the words into google or something, nothing will come up, but you can try to retype the words manually, and you will get results.
I hope no one falls into the same trap as me!!! I am also sure that this essay has been reused many times!!!
