ok, let me amend the summary a bit:

zandermus: this essay is a crap
pheelyks: who are you to tell that?

What I undertand you to mean in context is that Zandermus is perfectly allowed to comment on someone else's problems even if he can;t do any better himself.

exactly, my point is: everyone is perfectly allowed to comment on anything. zandermus can comment on the topics named "you are welcome to judge" and you can comment on his or mine english skills

the second point is: the competence of reviewer doesn't affect the quality of the reviewed object

zandermus: this essay is a crap
pheelyks: who are you to tell that?

More like:
Zandermus: this is crap
me: so is this

the competence of reviewer doesn't affect the quality of the reviewed object

No, but it does affect the quality and the integrity of the review itself. If one judges without all of the necessary knowledge and skills to judge, then that judgment won't really be the best, will it?

Felix:
What has the fish got to do with all of this?
pheelyks
Feb 23, 2011 | #44
Wow. You managed to catch that typo yet claim your disability makes it impossible for you to control punctuation, spelling, etc. Is blindness a real problem that inhibits your productive interaction with the world, as you have claimed, or is it just a convenient excuse?

Felix:
I wasn't being horrible. I just wanted to know what the fish was all about? My pc read, carp. So, I was confused. No need to be rude.

No need to be rude.

I'm not being rude. If you honestly couldn't figure out that "carp" was a typo in context--when the word "crap" had already been used and quite obviously makes more sense--then you have some comprehension problems totally unrelated to any of your disabilities. If--as I still suspect--you didknow that it was a typo, then a my original point stands and my question remains, and b)you are sinking to a lower level of argument than you have heretofore hit. It's a pretty standard level for people trying to defend their skills as writers on this forum, but usually it only comes from those more desperate than you.

Felix:
Oh sorry, the previous crap was in the middle of some weird stuff so it didn't register. I was just taking note of what you were saying about me and my writing. But, you seriously are being rude tonight. I've given you all my reasons for writing like I do. They are the truth and not some lame ass excuses. I'm sure you will be happy to hear that I do not plan to do academic writing for much longer. I am going to do my phd in creative writing. They help you publish your book and everything! :] In all honesty I dislike academic writing, I just have to do it so I can pay for my mother's old age home fees. So be at ease masterful Felix! I do not plan to impose my substandard skills on your sacred turf for much longer. Oh yes, since seeing you were really offensive in suggesting that I would use my disability as an excuse... Go screw yourself, I'm sure it will bring you almost as much pleasure as fixing forum posters' grammar.

The more sob stories you pile on, the more I doubt that any of them are true. If you really already earned a master's degree and actually do this for a living, there's no way reading and writing on a computer still gives you this much trouble. And my question wasn't rude--you're the one that made your disability an issue, so I am asking if it actually makes things as difficult as you say. From some of your comments--the "carp" thing in particular--it seems fairly clear that you can pick out fairly minute details with relative ease, and even focus on them exclusively when it suits your purpose.

Carp sounds very different from crap. I already asked you if you want all my qualifications to prove that I'm not talking crap. Just go reread your posts, then you'll see how rude you came across. I have no soppy stories to tell, only the truth and if that seems soppy to you then you obviously have a great life. I already told you that I like you, well I want to change that statement: I liked you.

Carp sounds very different from crap.

It has all of the same sounds, with the exception of the vowel, and made absolutely no sense in context. The fact that your only comment on the entire string of posts was, "what's with the fish?" also suggests that you were being quite selective in what you responded to, as though you were attempting to highlight a mistake. Stop backpedaling.

I already asked you if you want all my qualifications to prove that I'm not talking crap

First of all, I never said you wre "talking crap." If your PC reading technology is malfunctioning this badly, I really don't see how you could conduct online research and writing. Second, I already told you that qualifications don't mean a thing--I know someone that got an English degree form a very reputable university when she still doesn't know the difference between a noun and a verb, let alone how to write a truly accomplished and coherent essay.

Just go reread your posts, then you'll see how rude you came across.

I re-read them, and still say I come across as rational and honest while you become increasingly emotional and defensive. Point out a specific comment you feel was rude, and maybe we can get somewhere on this.

I have no soppy stories to tell

Oh. So that off-hand comment about needing to pay for your mother's old-folks home was somehow relevant to the conversation, and not just more emotional fluff?

you obviously have a great life.

While I am pretty happy with my life at this point, you have no idea what y life is or has been like, precisely because I don't feel a need to air all of my personal baggage on this forum, or to somehow excuse myself from the standards that apply to everyone else because I've had to struggle. My struggles have admittedly not been as great as yours, assuming what you've said about yourself is true, but even when things have been pretty hard I didn't look for excuses.

I liked you.

I'm sorry that you don't find honesty a likable quality when its pointed in your direction. Posting as a writer on this forum was probably a mistake from the get go.

thread summary, 3d edition:

- this essay is crap
- as well as your review and you were not allowed to post it anyway

then that judgment won't really be the best, will it?

of course not, but even the best judgement will not make the object of review any better.

actually, i was objecting to the point that zandermus is not allowed to comment. he is, but by leaving his review he invites everyone to comment on it.

You managed to catch that typo

i think it was a joke

They are the truth and not some lame ass excuses.

i fail to see the reason for providing excuses for poor skills

i can't draw well.

excuse: i was never taught to do it and i don't have any talent for this

can i post my drawings on the internet? yes

can people tell me that they are poor? yes

can i comment on the drawings of other people? yes

can i sell them and do some custom drawing? well, if someone wants me to

replace "draw" with "write" and you will get my point

if you want all my qualifications

i fail to see the point here too.

it's entirely possible that the op has some credentials proving their proficiency in english,
but they are totally discarded by their essay

actually, i was objecting to the point that zandermus is not allowed to comment

No one ever said this, to my knowledge.

i think it was a joke

So do I. Zandermus insists he really thought I was talking about a fish.

he is, but by leaving his review he invites everyone to comment on it.

Which was precisely what happened. ^_^ However instead of simply owning up to his faults and moving on, Zandermus decided to play the disability card.

my bad. i didn't read this

that Zandermus is perfectly allowed to comment on someone else's problems even if he can;t do any better himself.

till the end

I don't disagree with this

EW writer:
Felix questioned my proficiency in English. I told hI'm a native speaker. He was somewhat disbelieving and pointed out what was wrong with my posts. So, I explained why they come across like they do. Unfortunately, he thinks these are excuses and not the truth. So, if that is playing the disability card, well strike me dead with a lightning bolt.

Smirk:
I only mentioned the qualifications because Felix doesn't think I could've earned a masters degree with my pc skills.

Felix:
I've changed my mind. I do still like you. I just wish you'd understand that I am not making excuses I am explaining things to you, that's all.

Summary:
the ap's essay is not good. Although, my review is accurate, the lack in coherence in my posts does not give me the authority to judge the ap's essay because I am not brilliant myself. Therefore, any forum post can be judged, not only those who wish their essays to be judged.

well strike me dead with a lightning bolt

That would certainly be a fitting end to your tale of woe.

I only mentioned the qualifications because Felix doesn't think I could've earned a masters degree with my pc skills.

No, I said that if your disability actually gave you as much trouble as you have claimed it does in this thread, earning your masters would have been next to impossible. I don't actually believe your disabilities make things as difficult as you say.

I've changed my mind.

You do that really often. Oh, that's right--bipolar.

I do still like you.

I don't really care.

I am not making excuses I am explaining things to you, that's all

That's what people who still believe their own excuses say.

My assessment: Very weak.

Your comment: entirely pointless.

I told hI'm a native speaker.

I think that nobody is questioning this in as far as your definition of native speaker as pointed out by smirk is concerned.

Saying that your grammar is off because you're blind is playing the disability card.

Unfortunately, he thinks these are excuses and not the truth.

actually, it's not important whether the excuses or explanations are real. the thing is that no one needs them:

excuse: i was never taught to do it and i don't have any talent for this

is it a real excuse? you bet

does it make my drawings any better?

Spell out abbreviations. Not only do they increase the length of the essays and word count (which can be helpful) but also they look syntactically more mature

they look syntactically more mature

Someone's clearly never read anything published in an academic journal......
