The job of a psychologist requires extraordinary people skills because it involves the treatment of some mental or emotional malady, which is already complex all by itself. Being a minority myself, I am cognizant of the many issues that can sometimes get in the way of the proper dispensing of medications. I believe that my being of ethnic background gives me more sensitivity when it comes to cultural issues. I know how to go around sensitive cultural and religious issues because I have them myself. I am able to look at the system with fresh and untainted eyes. I know enough about business to make me want to learn about it more, but I do not know too much to make me jaded. My mind is pliable and open to new things in so far as psychology is concerned.

Psychology Personal StatementMy years as a self-sufficient college student endowed me with effective oral and written negotiations. I hope to use my formal training as a psychologist in ways that are productive to myself and the people around me. As psychologists we have to deal with all kinds of people, but I realized that a sincerely warm person can get through to even the most difficult of clients. I am a good listener and I know the value of positive communication, and I believe that beyond the clinical training, these two traits are essential to the success of a psychologist.

Every person has something unique that he brings to the table. In my case, I believe that we get out of life what we are willing to receive from it. The challenges that come our way are opportunities to test our mettle and expand our character. I see graduate school as an unchartered territory, full of opportunities for those willing to take on its challenges. And while it may seem scary at first, the potential to reap a rewarding harvest is well worth the sacrifice. How we perceive a challenge determines how we act towards it. This is true regardless of the field of endeavor we choose to pursue. Life is a matter of attitude, and attitude is something that I have in abundance.

I truly believe in the value of my profession. As a psychologist I am given the responsibility of providing a service that can save lives or improve an individual's quality of living. To be able to take an active role in the helping of lives is a privilege that I would like devote my professional life to. A psychologist listens to a client's needs, responds appropriately and mediates to achieve the positive outcomes to them and their communities. Such skills are more of an art than a science and should be combined with genuine concern and empathy for the patients and their families. Skills such as listening and reasoning cannot be taught and can only be acquired through personal and professional experience and a true attempt to help resolve problems of the patient. It is different from everyday communication because the areas psychology and counseling require a deliberate form of mental action.

Pursuing a higher degree has always been on my agenda. Over the years I have proven myself to be independent and self-determined. I have supported myself through college by leveraging my natural leadership skills and a strong affinity for creative explorations. I have a strong history at motivating a diverse group of people to come together and work together for a common goal, a trait that is necessary to forge an atmosphere of respect and synergy. I truly believe that every person has something to contribute to any endeavor or organization. The important thing is the willingness to reach out and share skills and experiences to contribute to a collective interest. I am the type who believes that more can be achieved when people come together in the spirit of mutual symbiosis and trust, and that perception will inform me as I endeavor to help people help themselves.
