Some parents have no preference whether their children attend same sex schools, or co-educational schools: however, there are some parents who do prefer single-sex schools for their children. There are many reasons for this, but one reason may be that they are wanting to shelter their children from the immorality of society. Some feel they should protect and guide them from the so-called evils of the world. These parents feel they have the responsibility of sheltering their offspring in a better environment until they are older and, therefore, more mature and better able to cope with coeducation.

Same Sex SchoolAnother reason some parents may prefer same sex schools is the potential for higher academic achievement. Some may think the level of education is better. "Attending all-boys or all-girls school rather than attending coeducational schools is significantly associated with higher average scores." These parents may want their child to focus exclusively on school work rather than face the possibility of being distracted by the opposite sex. If the child is not being distracted by the opposite sex, then there is reason to believe that there is to be greater emphasis on education. This has been proven in many scientific studies, including one from the 2001 taking place in Great Britain. In this study, it was determined that "nearly every girl regardless of her ability or socioeconomic status performed better in single-sex classrooms than co-ed ones."

The basis of the study included 2954 high schools and 979 primary schools, which ultimately determined that although boys who were considered to be within the lowest scores academically did, in fact, improve significantly in single-sex schools, single-sex education predominantly beneficial regarding females. It has also, within other studies, that students who enjoy a same-sex educational environment more often have increased confidence when compared to their coed peers. This has long-term benefits extending beyond one's traditional education period. If a child has more confidence, then he or she will want to strive for success and have more potential to venture into areas that traditionally attract the opposite gender. For females, this may include fields emphasizing science and math.

Lastly, single-sex schools may be advocated by parents who are invested in religion and religious principles. Whether it is tradition or the culture of a certain sect, there may be the belief shared that religious teachings are best promoted and achieved in a single-sex environment. All of these are considerations parents might keep in mind when it comes to the education of their children, especially females, and how to best promote a quality learning environment with the maximum potential for success in the future.
