Generally, cc companies will back you anytime you can show them that you were wronged by a merchant. Some (like AMEX) are much better that way than others. With a service like essay writing, you're not going to be able to chargeback honest differences of editorial opinion about the quality of work or subjectively reasonable interpretations of instructions. But if you pay for an essay on engineering and you get back one on nursing, or you pay for an original piece of work and you show your cc cmpany that you got back crap pasted from online sources, you shouldn't have a problem getting it refunded. Ironically, you're better off getting ripped off very badly than less badly, because there probably is a pretty wide grey area where you'd be 100% right to want a refund but won't be able to satisfy the cc company's criteria to charge it back.

Starting a 'chargeback' for a (writing) service transaction is not recommended. The best way is to resolve the issue with the seller (unless the seller is an obvious, 100% scammer). Otherwise, by doing a chargeback, you DECREASE your credit score, even if you win the chargeback. A good credit score may be important to students who start their professional and personal lives

Over the past 20 years, I've only experienced three chargebacks (thank God) and all of these were from scammers who had already received their work and turned it in for credit. All three suffered from their actions (one was expelled and I'm still looking for him) and all three ended up paying me. Karma is a harsh taskmaster, so don't try to cheat the people who are trying to help you.

Don't cheat the writers out of their honestly earned incomes. They worked hard on your paper and did their best to deliver a high quality paper to you. As the student, you already gained a benefit from working with the writer. Honest writers deserve to be paid for their honest services. However, if you come across a scam writer, then charge back. Learn to tell the difference between the two. Don't use and abuse honest writers, but don't let scam writers get away with their crimes either. Do a chargeback only if all compromise discussions fail to give you a positive result.

It is generally best to file a chargeback with a CC within 48 hours of receiving your paper and proving that it is not a proper sale. However, the refunding process could take up to t 3 months, with the CC asking that you pay first so they can deduct it from your future charges. They do not normally refund in cash. The crediting could be a patience tester though. Some CC will not do the rebate work unless you personally follow up and force them to do it.
