Hey, this is the new academic sticky thread for students!

The thread is open for anyone studying anything who want to simply ask, expand their ideas/topics they wish to address.

I'll start the discussion:

I'll start my final year in English Lit and Philosophy (major/minor). My dissertation is based on how apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction explore different manifestations of fear as a reflection of societal anxieties.

What's your subject and your idea?

Students should consider how the pandemic has changed the world when considering their subjects. I have seen an emergence of interest among students when it comes to the vaccine debate, projections regarding the eventual endemic and how the pandemic has changed heathcare services worldwide. In the field of Science and technology, Elon Musk has inspired new ideas in relation to Al research, space exploration tech, even electric car improvements or, what comes next after the EV tech is fully developed. When this post was orginally opened, it was based on the topic of interest to the student. An overwhelming academic redirection has taken place since then. More students are now interested in medical research, medical service, and remote activities. I believe these will be the research areas of interest to undergraduate and graduate students for at least a decade.

Why would you post your dissertation topic on a public forum like this before you've completed it, especially if you're planning on writing it yourself?

Additionally interesting is how topics related to social issues are also becoming hot topics for discussion subjects these days. Issues covering finance and economics that directly relate to poverty in Middle America often show up. The issue of illegal immigrants also used to be popular but it has since shifted to how those caught are treated. Economic topics in relation to global or national pandemic recovery does not show signs of cooling off either.
