Why would anyone want to study post grad? It's crazy. I'll be earning 60k this year and it's going to only be my 2nd year at the job (graduated summer 07). Once you've graduated you should just go into a graduate scheme with a reputable firm.

In the United States, towns that house reputable institutions tend to have sky high real estate prices and elevated prices for pretty much everything else. Everyone loves to rip off students.

But, if you're thinking grad school in the U.S., I'd strongly consider only doing so if you get paid to go to school. There are lots of opportunities for fellowships for grad students and it avoids needless debt.

My sentiments exactly. Go post-grad only if it's free. :)

I also understand SolidSnake's position. For folks in the industry, a graduate degree should be enough to have you qualified for upper management positions. Post-grad studies really only count a lot when you're in the academe or in a high-end, hard science profession.

I think that due to the Global Credit crunch more students may go to the US now than say Europe. Going abroad is always going to be expensive in any case.

Hi,

I have researched all the places to study for post grad. It is true that it is better if it is free and there are many opportunities that are available too. Germany can be a better choice if you cant get to USA or Canada. I really feel that USA, Canada & UK offer the same standard of education. Germany can provide better education in technical fields like engineering...

I think it all depends on the school. If you look at Harvard its gonna be the US, if its Oxford its gonna be the UK and so forth but generally education is not free anymore anywhere in the world.

I agree that it is worthwhile to take hefty loans for your studies only when you have assurances about job placements and all. Else, better to select only those programs where you get good scholarships. To be honest we have had so many clients who had to return to their home country after a UK/USA degree because of the economic situation there

Learning AbroadThe Western Countries (including Japan or Australia) are probably the most expensive countries to study, especially if you are a foreign student without much help from the government or without a scholarship. The following is a sample of a scholarship essay instructions you may use to write your own essay and study in the most expensive countries ever (if you manage to get the scholarship ;).

A Scholarship / Admissions Essay On Study Abroad - Example Student Instructions and Comments

Hi writer, hope you are well.

Here are some of my comments, please follow them as well:

1. When u answer the essay question, please respond to the 5 statements that in part (Essay Guidelines).

2. I have attached 7 articles from core course readings that I think useful for answering the question ( focus on articles that have the names " week2 (Hall's article" and week3 and week4". At least 5 articles from them should be used + plus peer reviewed articles from your choices . Totally around 20 to 25.

3. In the introduction part of the essay, introduce the topic issue and then relate it to language, identity and cultural differences. For example, studying abroad means that students will study in different countries that may have diff language, identity and cultures, In the end of the introduction, put a map about what are u going to write about, responding to the 5 statements. For example, in this papers, I will outline a topical issue and justify my interest in this issue, then, I will provide some theoretical background for my discussion and a critical analysis of this issue. Next, some recommendations about the next step will be presented. Finally, I will provide some explanation about why I think studying abroad is an necessary part of any language program.

4. In the body of the essay, use subheadings such as:

- outlining the issue and justification
- theoretical background
- recommendation
- explanation

5. Try to make the essay personal. Ex ( it seems to me that, I think its much , I argue that).

6. Make sure there is no plagiarism at all as my uni is very strict in this issue.

7. follow and abide to the criteria marketing.

8. As the question of essay ask about experience.

Is study abroad a necessary part of a language program?

Comment critically with reference to your own experiences, as well as views of culture identity and language learning from your course readings.

Some of my experience, ( I will write some information about my experience during my studying abroad and u can include them in the essay)

I believe that studying abroad is a necessary part of a language programe, to explain that, Im from Australia, I got a scholarship to do master in Australia which im doing now, I have earned a lot of benefits during my studying abroad which never happen if I do in local Australia uni especially in the area of learning English Language. In Australia, they teach students to be independent learner and search for the information that never happens in Australia, in Australia students just depend on their teachers for learning and never learn by their own self. Also in Aus, students have a freedom to critique, ask questions, that may not happen in Australia because the way of learning here is called ( students' central) while the way in Australia is being " teachers' central) for teaching. In one year , I have improved my English quickly before doing my master which hard to do if I studied English in my country. I have summarized the benefits that I got in the below points.

Academic benefits:

Learning in new ways(independent, students' centered, ask questions)- gain language proficiency- language skills. (personal ex).

Cultural benefits:

Open widely students' eyes to the world- reflecting students' culture and know about others- problem solvers and team working.

Personal benefits:

Increase self-confident, independence and maturity.

Professional benefits:

An excellent career- Employers want employee (fluent english, understand different culture)- strong communication ex this presentation.- team work.

So, from my experience , I think that studying abroad is a necessary part of a language program. Finally, I hope to get an excellent work, so I will deal with u again and again. If u have any question or wondering about anything, please let me know. Thanks a lot.

Everywhere in the world are expensive places to study these days. All countries offer student loans and scholarships to students of differing levels. It is no longer financially feasible to study advanced your undergraduate course unless your company will be sponsoring your studies. Some students use the opportunity to take on international post study courses, sponsored by various foundations just so they can pursue post graduate studies. Somehow though, I am not convinced they are pursuing these studies abroad to actually go back to their home country and be of help to their countrymen.

I would have to agree that studies, specially advanced studies have become cost prohibitive these days. Regardless of whether these courses are studied locally or internationally, it is difficult to say that it costs more to study in one country rather than the other. That is why there is a rise in scholarship programs on both a local and international scale. Nobody will be able to afford studying overseas without a sponsorship. However, if you are one of those lucky few who can actually afford to pay your way for foreign studies, then consider the UK and the US for those studies. These countries still top the list of options of students these days.
