How to be a good student at Statistics and Economics?

Hi everyone, I am a university student in the UK and English is my second language...

Due to mild Dyscalculia and Asperger, I struggled with numbers and understanding wording in questions, especially in my economics/statistics courses, but they're also my favourite ones in the uni. I think I have the intellectual capacity but lack proper study method and guidance. I wanted to ask for help but people at my university weren't very friendly, unfortunately. The essay writing service is very tempting but I don't want to become dependent on it; also, I want to convince myself that I can do something well. If any of you guys offer or know someone who does reliable online tutoring, please please tell me...

I don't want to drop them in my first year. I wanna be good at it!

I'm sorry to hear your university is not accommodating to your needs, they should be providing you with the help and support required. Perhaps pushing your personal tutor harder, cc'ing the year leader in emails you send to them, or asking the student union for help? Besides that, I can personally recommend 24houranswers for tutoring as I have used them in the past.

Good luck.

Words UnderstandingI'm not sure if using an essay writing or academic research service would solve your problem (considering that the Statistics / Economic fields don't require a lot of writing).

From what I understand, Dyscalculia is related to difficulties in understanding math / numbers.

Are you required to take these courses or you took them because you like them?

What is your major and I wonder what doctors say about your condition; is it likely to improve?

IF this condition cannot be cured, you may want to reconsider your areas of study so that you excel in areas you are fully comfortable and able to be 100% successful.

Good luck and feel free to come back if you have more questions.

Sadly, I agree with @Major in this case. Unless there's a way for your situation to get better according to the help and assistance of medical professionals, I would recommend looking into other fields than economics and statistics that won't require this much effort. However, if you truly want to and believe that you can push through, I think it would be best for you to try seeking a personal tutor or an instructor. Explain to your university or school too about your condition. This will help you somehow. But the other parts cannot be assured. Seek help.

There has actually been a change in the tutoring landscape in the 21st century. Even college students can get online tutoring help, in any given subject. They are trained professionals who have experience in Statistics and Economics. They either do the job of a statistician or an entry level finance analyst and do the tutoring thing on the side. They have made it possible to students who struggle in these classes, regardless of the reason, to pass their classes. They help the student in a 2 fold manner. First, they serve as the out of class tutor of the student. Second, they solve the assignments and help the student prepare for tests by solving the problems alongside them. Thus helping the student get a better understanding of the lessons that they would not normally get in class or from the academic centers at the universities. Finding these tutors aren't a big deal. It only takes a simple Google search using the subject as the search keyword (e.g. Statistics tutor). The results will give the student a plethora of tutoring sites for their consideration.
