Searchable essay site (database of papers?)

So I've been reading the forums for a little while now and I have one question which I hope doesn't spark a huge debate. I have been looking at a few essay sites that have thousands of papers available to search through and download (for a fee of course) for example Database of Papers in Academia. Now all I am seeking is possible website's that offer a searchable database of papers. I would like to stay away from any kind of debate as to who is better than who because it doesn't seem to lead anywhere so that's why I'm just asking for any site's that offer a searchable download.

You already seem to know which sites offer it, so why are you asking?

I don't know of any.

Thanks for the help. I'll probably just pay a friend to write this if I can't find the time to do it on my own. Seems the legit places charge an arm and a leg.

Sorry to be a bother, but what about essaycrawler.com?

Here's one: free-essays. Before this post gets removed, admin - check the site - this isn't advertising, it's not a custom essay site and doesn't sell anything :-)

Wow, what a shocker--Jennifer's "company" owns and controls free-essays.co.uk.

PROOF:

academicanswers.co.uk/about.htm

Jennifer, your credibility couldn't possibly be any lower. Well, actually, who knows? Keep posting and we'll see.

Yes ...... and ....... ? It's a free essay site... ? Lots of free resources to help students - nothing paid, no subscription, no sign up required .. um... how does this lower my credibility lol.

No advertising or self-promotion are allowed. Do you not understand English or do you simply have no regard for the rules of the forum? Try reading the terms of service?

how does this lower my credibility

It proves that you have no respect for rules, contracts, and agreements, as others have claimed.

Essaycrawler.com seems to now be nothing more than a portal to other sites that build their "databases" by accepting submissions from the public (regardless of quality). The papers are almost certainly not edited. In fact, I have seen complete gibberish published in those sites, as well as blatantly plagiarized content. In my opinion, definitely not worth your hard-earned money.

Database of PapersThanks for pointing out the rules of the forum WB. Your help is greatly appreciated as always.

It is my understanding of the word 'advertising' that this is some communication persuading customers to make a purchase.

Since the resource I sent the forum user to has no advertising on it and does not sell anything, I do not see how it could be advertising. Could you enlighten me?

Can you perhaps clarify:

Are we permitted to link to other websites, provided that these are not the kind of websites that sell services or products?

Are free resources not allowed?

The only reason anyone here knows that the site was created by someone in our company was because you said so. So it doesn't provide any form of advertising or promotion for our company (although your post does).

Advertising comes in many different forms, including posting links to a "free" site on which you plan to offer services and advertisements in the FUTURE. You're not fooling anyone.

The only reason anyone here knows that the site was created by someone in our company was because you said so.

Yes, because you were not HONEST enough to admit such.

We have no plans to offer anything on the free site at this time, to the very best of my knowledge - to be honest, I'm not sure where we're going with that particular site. But I have no problem admitting which sites we do and don't own - if we were hiding this, then why would we list them on our central website (for you to easily find)? We have a diverse range of sites so that we can target different market segments, but all of the business ones list us as owners, as far as I'm aware.

Your personal understanding is acceptable. Personally, I saw your post more as a recommendation along the lives needed by the student. Was it advertising ? I don't believe so. I would describe it more as a site promotion instead. The company and sewice falls under a gray area because it in not a paid service.

These searchable databases could land the student in trouble. The company oftentimes also own the academic writing company that created the paper. They milk the order for all it is worth. Then a student purchases a paper, revises it a bit, finally submitting it for a grade. Then it gets run through plagiarism checkers, which flag sections of it from a previous submission. Student is then accused of plagiarism... It is a bigger problem to purchase a model paper than to have a fresh paper developed. I would not recommend database sites because of this potentially explosive situation. Database + Plagiarism checker = Violation of the Academic Honor Oath.

It's conceivable that back when this thread was last active, 13 years ago, students might have still tried to submit work derived partly from pre-written essays purchased from essay companies. Back then, plagiarism scanning hadn't yet become standard and some professors might have been using it before their students had any idea that this was a risk. By now, it's inconceivable that any student would ever purchase a prewritten essay and attempt to use any part of it for submission, including its reference list, because everybody knows about plagiarism scanning. That's also why there was still some residual market for prewritten essays back in 2008, whereas there's virtually no market whatsoever left for prewritten essays today.

Plenty of students still use sites like MarkedByTeachers when researching or trying to find new ideas to write about.

Nobody needs to pay a website for access to old essays just to come up with "ideas" for essays. University students can get whatever help they need for free from their professors and teaching assistants and from university writing centers. Likewise, paying a website for access to old essays hardly constitutes academic "research" and there are plenty of free and paid databases online (like Google Scholar, ProQuest, EBSCO, JSTOR, Gale/Cengage, and so forth).
