Research Methodology Critique
Quantitative Research Method DesignThe methodology adopted in the article "
Model Based Assessment of Learning Dependent Change" by Schlomske & Pirnay-Dummer was experimental and concentrated on studying the learner's ability to learn and the progress they made.
Procedure
In order to collect data for the study, a group of learners were recruited and it comprised of 31 students. These students were in their first semester. The subjects taught to them included statistics and scientific hypothesis during the first semester. During their second semester, the subjects taught to them included inferential statistics through empirical research. Furthermore, the group also took part in tutorials to gain knowledge on the subject. The study was conducted at Department of Education in Freiburg and the collection of data was an anonymous process. All of the participants were asked to open the web browser and enter their student id, group, age and gender. Instructions were given to them and they had to go through the experiment on their own, which maintained objectivity of the research.
VariablesThe types of variable used in the study were Closeness, contrast, Closeness, Contrast, Combined and Combined.
Instrument AnalysisMITOCAR, tool had been used as a research instrument and it has been proven to be give reliable, homogenous and valid results. The results of the study were consistent with previous studies and therefore, MITOCAR software is a reliable and valid tool.
Data analysisData analysis was conducted by testing the homogeneity of the data through "intra-term NOVA" and determining correlations.
ConsentParticipants were requested to participate on their own and therefore, personal consent was taken.
