There are rich kids who would rather shell out lots of money than do the work; there are working professionals who need a master's degree to get a promotion/raise but don't actually need the knowledge and who don't have the time with their full-time job to do the work for the degree; there are people in the military who would rather spend their time on leave with their family then with their textbooks. All kinds of students, all kinds of reasons.

I think emailing your tutor telling them about the fact that you plagiarized was probably a bad move. It's like asking the cops if the car you stole is going to get you into trouble. Then again, you're 38 and a self-acknowledged screwup, so...
