As freelance writers, we work on contract terms, so we are allowed to work with multiple services if needed. I personally have an account with three of them (but only one brings me some orders; the other two are not very active or they have preferred writers who get paid projects first). Anyway, you need to have a good set of materials when you apply for a writing position, including resume, writing samples, and even some kind of a letter of intent. I include a sample of such a letter / bio below for other writers to review it.

Freelance Writer - Letter of Intent / Bio to Sign Up as a Writer

Freelance Writing AccountWhen I look behind, I feel that I have come a long way and when I look ahead it seems that there is still a long way to go. I have been fortunate to enjoy different situations in life, both good and bad, and feel that I have learned a lot over the years. Whether it was traveling long distance as a child to reach a good school or the complete shift from a small town all-girls school to a co-ed college in a big city, every day was a learning experience for me. I feel that every challenge brings the opportunity for us to look within and draw on our inner strength.

I am convent educated and thus carry a good base in English writing and speaking skills. As I always carried a greater interest in Science, I earned a bachelor degree in from a prominent university in India. Later, as I entered the field of teaching, I felt that I must get an appropriate degree for teaching. Thus, I enrolled for Bachelor of Education course which I completed successfully in 2005. I taught for several years and then, circumstances forced me to change my field to computers because of the need to offer financial support for my family. Thus, I did a course in computers, web designing, and multimedia. For several years, I have worked as a multimedia developer in an office and gave coaching / private tutoring services to primary school children at home.

During my career, the office administrators have been looking for content writers. They thought of trying me out because of my good communication skills. Thus, this is how I entered the field of writing and began writing for websites. I was given the task of organizing a content writing team and write web pages, blogs and press releases for different websites and clients. I am aware that apart from having good grammatical and expert writing skills, a good writer should be passionate about what he writes. His objective should be to connect to the reader instantly with a piece of good writing and bring a positive change within him. The idea is not to impress the reader with a string of good words but to stir him from within through the effortless flow of words from beginning to end.

Somewhere along the line, a client sent an inquiry about academic writing. I researched academic writing, what it was all about and tried to educate myself on different styles of citation. Gradually I developed deep interest in academic writing as I loved to research. My Bachelors degree in Science and Bachelors in Education make me uniquely qualified to write on a variety of topics. I have already written about 800 academic articles in the field of science, literature, business history, psychology, etc. for clients in the UK and USA. For me, every topic is different and thus as exciting as ever. Based on what is expected from the topic, one can write on the same subject form a different perspective.

I am interested in working as a freelance content and academic writer. I think because of my strong writing and research skills, as well as seven years of experience in this field, make me feel confident as a good writer. My extensive experience in research and writing will qualify me as an excellent academic writer. My diploma in computer science means that I am comfortable with my computer skills and have the technical expertise to write on technical topics as well. I have also worked on web article and content writing, but I see myself as working exclusively on academic writing in the future.
