anyone heard of cloudcrowd? I don't like that it's all facebooky, and it has the ring of something that will seriously low-ball you on pay. does anyone have any experience to counter/support this bias of mine?

I started to check this service out today since they said no fees are involved but I agree, it looks a little shady to me and I did not complete the registration. I'd like to hear from others who have used this service, though.

"How Your Work Gets Evaluated

Your work generally is reviewed by another worker, and may be approved, Reviewer Corrected or rejected. If your work is approved, you will be paid the full amount + the stated bonus amount. If your work is Reviewer Corrected and approved, you will be paid the full amount, however, the bonus will go to your peer reviewer.

When Your Work Is Rejected

For writing and editing projects, if your work is rejected and you meet certain criteria, you will have the opportunity to Self-Correct your work and earn the majority of your original pay. To learn more about Self-Corrections, please see the Correction Overview page."

This incentivizes "peer reviewers" to find problems with work completed (they get the bonus pay for "correcting" initial work), and unless the amount the customer pays is reduced in a "Self-Correct" scenario it incentivizes the company/the peer reviewer to reject work as much as possible, because they will pocket the difference between the "original pay" and the reduced pay to the writer. This sounds just like the fine schemes in place at many questionable companies.

This wouldn't be a problem for me since my work is perfect ;)

Hmm I'm guessing the reviewer corrected rate is going to be around 100%. I'll take a rain cheque.

I guess they were banking on the word Cloud as a part of their company name to misrepresent themselves to future writers. The idea that writers can work via cloud is real, but for a company to imply that they can only do it properly theough a relationship with them is inaccurate. The only thing the name proves is that they are a creative bunch who will have an even more creative way of conning their partner writers.

Based on information I managed to come up with while looking up the domain name for this company, it appears that this name domain name is now non-existent and is neither cached nor owned by any company. While looking into the background of the company when it still existed, it appears that the owners created their own problems with the way the tasks are completed. No single writer or creator was in charge of a full project. Each project was cut up into sections and any available writer could take a section, work on it, get it checked and if approved, get paid for it. So one can only imagine the debacle that such a work system created as a final result. The company did not stand a chance with this kind of work model.
