Helium experience? It's more like an article writing gig.

Hi all,

Not sure if anyone will know about Helium, as it's not so much an 'essay' writing site, more like an article writing site. This is another site that offers payment for writing that is ranked and rated by its members - from what i can gather, those rated highest earn more. But some of the other premises seem a little confusing. Has anyone had any experience of this site? Is it good for new or experienced writers mostly? You seem like a knowledgeable lot :)

Thanks.

I think Helium and similar sites are mostly for aspiring writers and journalists to get feedback-- the money, which is usually pennies, is considered secondary.

Reference ArticleI used Helium a bit during my past career as an academic writer.

I stopped using it as reference points or information sources later on as I came to realize that it is no better than Wikipedia. It is an open site that has articles written by just about anybody who wants to write about any topic.

There is no way of confirming the validity of the information nor the authority of the writer who developed the opinion statement papers.

Sure these are free articles but they are not really reliable.

In fact, it is worse than Wikipedia because it doesn't have a listing of outside sources for the information in the page.

I am not confident that the people writing the articles are really informed about what they are writing as I spotted a few errors here and there which made me question the validity of their presentations.

It is an open site that has articles written by just about anybody who wants to write about any topic.

Sadly, this is becoming common among article sources these days. For instance, the Huffington Post has "contributors" of all shapes and sizes claiming to be an expert in their professed fields. I put very little stock in HuffPost articles unless there are other verified, credible sources that support what HP has to say.

While Helium has apparent open calls for fact checkers, it doesn't seem they're doing much actual "fact" checking. ;) As for errors in the articles, I am sure it's due partly to the freelancer's failure to double check their work before submitting and, even more disturbing, partly due to the editors' failure to catch the errors. Personally, if a company hires editors to review before publishing, then there should rarely be an error in the material the company provides. The same applies to their contracted "fact checkers." Otherwise, why contract editors? Fact checkers? Freelancer writers are all they need if they aren't serious about quality control.

What's the deal with hiring fact checkers these days? I thought writers were supposed to know the difference between made up information, questionable information, and outright lies? Isn't that taught in school anymore? I guess not. Hold on! If there are fact checkers, what do they really do? Check the editors? Aren't editors the first line of fact checking before an article is published? Why the redundancy in functions? So, if there is a fact checker, is an editor still needed? Sheesh!

Helium.com no longer exists in the form that we came to know as academic writers. They no longer sell papers to students since that market dried up long before Ai written papers became a thing. Apparently, the name was sold and now belongs to an app development company. It is no longer connected to the academic writing world.
The opinions are that of the author's alone based on an individual capacity. Opinions are provided "as is" and are not error-free.

There is no way of confirming the validity of the information nor the authority of the writer who developed the opinion statement papers.

So, basically, AI-quality essays five years before the release of ChatGPT.
