I'm a writer and was conned off 1300 pounds by two students. Just posted the essays on 'free essays' section. Any chance i can get justice?

A decent thread title might help.

Any chance i can get justice?

As evident from your other thread, you
1) communicated with their tutor, ensuring that they get suspended or expelled
2) posted their essays online

Why on earth would they ever pay you? You sought revenge, not justice ...

WRT is right on this. it's either justice or revenge and since you chose the latter,I suggest you keep in touch with their tutor so that you can get updates on the punishments your 'clients' receive. You'll probably feel better if they get expelled.

Actually, I find the OP's actions quite despicable. Yes, his/her clients should have paid what they owed and should not have submitted the work as their own. However, the situation could have been resolved in a way which did not involve the destruction of the students' academic future.

out of curiosity could you please explain how the transaction went down? where did you meet them? did you send them the paper without receiving compensation first?

The way to get your money is to tell the student to either pay up or that you will report them to the school. I know academic ghostwriters who get their clients to pay by threatening to report them to the dean.

Student ConI do not believe that posting the student's essay in the Free section was the way to go in this instance.

The OP neglected to inform us if he took any other steps to try and collect from the students before he did the posting.

For example, Was he partially paid and only the balance was not paid? Or was a Paypal Dispute filed for a chargeback claim?

There are several factors missing from the conversation that would allow me to support the actions that the OP took. While I understand his desire to collect, seek justice, and also take revenge on the students, I do not applaud the manner by which he accomplished the task.

Sure getting the students expelled would bring him a sense of satisfaction, but then he would still be out financially. I would have tried to use proper channels to collect from the students first.

That is, depending upon the agreed upon payment method. If the OP agreed to deliver the paper without receiving payment first, then he was the one in error because he was a fool to trust the students in that sort of an agreement.

I'm not sure what the situation was behind the events that led to this sad action on the part of the OP. I don't think that his actions did himself or the students any favors either. I mean, as a freelance writer, he should be looking to preserve his image as a trustworthy writer. Someone who acts discreetly and does not take brash action in situations that require care and delicate considerations. What he did, and announcing it here at the forum isn't going to paint him in a good light even though this event happened years ago.

I do not see any student reading this post and then saying "Hey, I should hire this guy for my next paper". Instead, the reaction will be, "I should spread the word so nobody hires this guy." Whatever his reasons were, there is no reason that can justify posting the essays he worked on for students in the free essay section. I believe he did himself and his profession more harm than good.

The OP never explained how s/he was "conned off" by the students. Did they do a chargeback after receiving their papers? If not, then why in the world did the OP send the papers BEFORE collecting payment. That's asking for trouble. No, I'm not kicking the OP when s/he's down, just being real. There's no way I will work on one sentence before payment is collected.

I'd love to know the overall outcome. I also agree with the majority - the OP sought revenge, not justice. It sounds like they reacted out of anger and professionalism jumped out the window. Being scammed by a client is never a good thing, but trying all possible amicable options first is always the best way to go. Posting someone's paper should be last resort, after all else has failed. And even then, I still don't know that it's always the best way to go.

I'm pretty sure the OP has managed to get past this considering it happened 8 years ago.

Simply posting the student's essays in the free essay portion of this site doesn't accomplish anything. It should have been submitted to several online plagiarism checkers. Submitting it to Grammarly would have also been beneficial as those "grammar" checker services also keep copies of student essays. Loading the essays into as many free checkers are possible would have had produced a more fruitful result for this writer. Yes, if a student cons a writer, there should be some sort of retribution for the student. Making sure the paper gets flagged is one way of giving the writer a satisfied sense of getting even with the criminally minded student.

While this situation did happen several years back, that is not to say that the thread should not be kept alive due to the importance of the discussion it contains. We always discuss how the students get conned by the writers. We have failed to take into account that the writers can also be conned by the students. Which is probably one of the reasons why the other academic writers decided to stop working in the business. We need to hold the clients accountable for their actions that affect the writers negatively in the same manner that they want to hold the writers accountable for the results of their negative actions upon the student.
