I don't like when customers call me or I have to call them to complete their essay order

I don't like when customers want me to call them (or give me their phone number to call) to discuss project requirements. In most cases it's a waste of time because they have to send me an email with order specifications anyway. Some customers would not mind calling me at 3 am (because they forgot I'm in a completely different timezone). Others expect me to call them at 4am their local time. Sometimes I had to spend an hour with a chatty student and there was no mention about order details.

Anyway, my point is that I prefer not to reveal my phone number to customers :--: I'm upset!

Customer do have a right when they pay....

Actually, the only "rights" customers have (besides to general good faith and honesty in your representation of intentions, skills, ability, and experience) are those to which you mutually agree. If you represent to clients that you will provide a direct phone # and phone support, then they have a right to expect exactly what you promised them; but if you don't make that representation, then there is no automatic "right" to anything never discussed or agreed to initially.

In my experience, the main reason clients want to call me is just to verify that I'm really located exactly where I say I'm located, and that I don't have a foreign accent. There are very few projects that actually require phone conversations, although some new clients don't necessarily understand that at first, simply because this whole process is a new experience for them and/or because they don't realize that some of the assignments that are so challenging for them are routine for us and no different from most of the other dozen or more projects we handle every week.

Ideally, once you find a writer you trust, the entire process for a new assignment should require nothing more than the exchange of 2 to 4 emails: (1) Client to Writer w/new topic, specs & due date; (2) Writer to Client w/price quote; (3) Client to Writer w/notice of payment or rejection of the offer; and (4) Writer to Client w/confirmation of payment & scheduling. When people use you repeatedly for very similar projects, they often just send a single email to provide the specs/due date with payment issued virtually simultaneously, and all I have to do is say "thank you...confirmed for 1/6/14" or whatever. In other cases, they send the info first, wait for the price, and then just issue payment and I confirm.

It can be a longer process if you also negotiate price if they reject your quote, but that's one reason I don't. If they send a "counteroffer," I just respond with a last email along the lines of: "I'm sorry but I don't negotiate price...no pressure to use me...feel free to try me some other time on a short paper if you're not happy with work you find cheaper for this one...good luck with it."

At most, there's still one last exchange where they ask for a "referral" and I have to explain that I only provide referrals for work that I can't do or don't want, and not to help people compete against my prices for work that I'm happy to do for whatever price I already quoted. Even most of the prospective clients who ask that in the first place understand it immediately once I explain the difference; and those who don't and who respond argumentatively or sarcastically would probably have been way too annoying to do long-term business with anyway.

Actually, to illustrate exactly what I was just saying, most of the time that clients want to talk by phone, it's only to make absolutely sure that the spoken English of the American writer they just hired doesn't sound anything like this:

Correct. Plus having everything in writing may be useful in case of a problem.

Time management is important factor when your dealing in writing services. Scheduling each task & managing according to it; can work in your case. [Mention time period to every client for the suitable timing as per your convenience.]

Some customers prefer hearing your voice to proof its not a robot on the other end. They should consider the time zone indeed

I thought the client decided their own deadlines...

I usually ask them when they'd "prefer" delivery and when they "must" have it; because (sometimes) that allows me to give them two different prices (or even a price range) for the project that corresponds to their possible delivery range. Otherwise, the first date they mention may make it more inconvenient than necessary for me and more expensive than necessary for them.

It doesn't really seem necessary these days to offer the clients your contact number. As long as the writer has an active Skype, Messenger, WhatsApp, or other form of online telephony account service, the client may have a specific number to call without having to actually get the number of the writer. This also allows the writer to control the contact time with the client. Messages may be left either as voice mail or SMS if the writer is unavailable. I have found that writers gain the client's trust on a larger scale if a phone conversation is completed at the start of the order. After that conversation, I always make it clear to the client that he may leave voice messages or send SMS via the app and I will respond in due time, normally within 24 hours. Due to the time zone issues, this is normally the best way to deal with such situations. However, I let the client know that I reserve the right to contact him whenever I deem it necessary to do so. As previously stated, I did not have a problem leaving a message or an SMS when necessary. I may not have liked having to discuss client issues directly with the client but I also understood that the client needed to be pacified by having his worries addressed directly. At least once during the duration of the paper completion.

If a new client just needs to hear my voice to make sure that I'm an American and/or that I'm really located in NYC, I don't have a problem with one call strictly for that purpose. They're also welcome to the # of NYLS to verify my law degree. Otherwise, the last thing I need is clients calling me about their projects. I answer most emails immediately 24/7/365 unless I'm sleeping or out of the house and I always want everything discussed between us to be in writing via email, mainly, so that I can instantly search for anything from any client on every project and so there's always a written record of what was (and what wasn't) communicated. If I book a project a week or a month in advance, I'm not going to remember a verbal conversation about it by the time I get to it, which means I'd have to start taking notes from those phone calls. It's exceptionally rare that I ever have any need to discuss a project other than via email. Meanwhile, many first-time clients have absolutely no idea how obvious and unnecessary most of what they think they need to communicate to me so urgently is to anyone who has been doing this for a living since the client was in grade school (or diapers), and those questions and reminders (such as "please avoid plagiarism!" and "please use good grammar!" and "I forgot to mention that my professor says not to use first-person for academic writing!") would be even more annoying by phone than by email.

I have never had this problem. No one has ever requested to call me or hear my voice. Some clients have my number but only because it is linked to chat apps like WhatsApp and Telegram and that is their preferred mode of communication.

I wouldn't necessarily call it a "problem," because it's only 1 or 2 new clients out of 100 who ask to talk by phone, and they usually understand when I explain why all of our project-related communications need to be via email. Most of the time, the only reason they ask in the first place is because this whole process is new to them and they just don't realize how much of what they think they need to tell me is stuff that a professional academic writer already knows.

Making myself available to the client during particular hours is something that helps to build the trust factor between the two parties. However, I don't rely simply on phone calls to keep the client cool and calm. Since I keep a local base of clients from local and nearby universities, it doesn't bother me so much to have a face to face conversation with them. Yes, I opt to spring for coffee if that means the client and I can spend a few hours together getting a feel of one another, what the client really wants, showing him a sample of how the paper can be completed, getting approval for my writing approach, and all that. Doing this often results in less to no phone calls and helps to create a permanent client base for myself.

When the client does have to call me, I make sure to set the calling hours with them so that they don't call me at an inopportune hour. It's kind of like keeping work hours only over the phone. The client can start calling me at 8 AM but definitely cannot call me after 8 PM. After 8 PM only SMS and email contact is allowed and he has to be patient enough to wait for me to get ample rest time before responding to him. It's something that I recognize as part of the job because the clients do have specific needs that should be addressed before the paper is completed in order to avoid having to work on revisions after the order is completed. They also understand that it is this privilege that increases the cost of their paper order once I decide to accept it.

I rarely engage in phone discussions and when I do it's usually because the client is new. A lot of my business is referrals so they already know a little about me. There are some who still prefer to engage voice to voice before the order begins. I totally get it and work to accommodate during regular business hours. Once in a blue moon, I will have a client who constantly calls to discuss every little thing versus emailing (which I have to ask them to do anyway). I've been blunt before and told a client that I can chat with you or I can write -- their choice. Again, that has been rare. I find that most simply want initial reassure and once they get it, they have no qualms about letting me alone to work.

That's why I have an answering service for client calls. Their job is to assure the client that the writer is on the job and their concerns will be addressed as soon as the writer is available. The writer will then send them an email to discuss their concerns. It is important to have a written record of the writer's dealings with the client for his, the company, and the client's protection in case of a chargeback. That is why my writers are never allowed to return a client call. Whatever for? The client cannot remember the instructions during a phone conversation. Neither should be expected to take notes like a secretary. Nope. If you want the writer to truly understand your instructions and implement it, send an email. He can refer to that as he writes the paper. Although, if the client gives the correct instructions the first time, there is really no need for additional contact between the client and the writer.

These days the human writers sell their services on social media where there is instant access to the writer either via chat or call. Students like that. They like having a way to instantly contact their writers without having to pass through hoops. As a writer who is in competition with AI, making yourself available to answer these queries or other queries by the potential or current client could prove to spell the difference between them becoming regular clients and them opting for AI after they feel they have been neglected by the human writer.
The opinions are that of the author's alone based on an individual capacity. Opinions are provided "as is" and are not error-free.

My clients know that they can reach me pretty much 24/7 unless I'm sleeping and that I usually respond to emails within hours or, as often as not, within minutes.
