How can I get writing gigs? I am a LLB finalist awaiting graduation. I have been writing for one year under someone but the pay was very low compared to the work I did. I will appreciate any help and/or advice

Bape, sheila89 is an unqualified, ESL writer who lies about her geographical location in order to fool potential customers. "She" is from Kenya.

Work on improving your writing and research skills. The more you write, the better you'll become.

How can I get writing gigs?

Getting writing gigs can be quite difficult for newbies. Specially when one was originally attached to a writing company, which made it much easier to get writing jobs despite the low pay. Aside from the sound advice @Major provided above, I want to add that another suggestion as to how you can self promote and increase your chances of getting new clients.

Use your existing network of university students from your alma mater. Make sure to let the undergrads know that in spite of your being a graduate, you are more than willing to help them out with their academic needs "for the right price". Since these students already know you and the quality of your writing / work, it won't be difficult for you to earn their trust as an independent writer. Now, make sure to deliver impeccable work so that the same students can help you with word of mouth promotions. The rest of the writing gig stuff should come easy.

Writing gigs were more difficult to come by during the time that this post was written because of the proliferation of writing companies and independent writers. It got easier later on but, the minute the pandemic hit, the gig industry was one of the hardest hit. For academic writers, the effect was almost instant as students cancelled orders upon school shut-downs. Back to school schedules were upended and students no longer know if it will be possible for them to actually hire writers this semester since they are part of the blended learning process and the parents are more than likely hovering over them as they themselves WFH, leading students to actually do their own research and writing at the same table where their parents are working.

Can I just say that I saw an uptick in work starting in March, and just had the busiest summer in 10 years? Don't let old gloom and doom up there give you the wrong impression.

Cite, have you considered that you were "hardest-hit" by all of this not because of general, external factors, but because you personally are not a competent operator?

I noticed only a small drop in volume last spring, resulting in a slightly slower busy season and only a small drop in volume during the summer compared with recent summer seasons.

Can I just say that I saw an uptick in work starting in March, and just had the busiest summer in 10 years?

Interesting. Any idea what contributed to that increase?

Probably just luck! You know, and keeping lines in the water... thankfully I didn't shut everything down to write horrible web-copy some godforsaken place.

Independent writers can still try to gain clients via social media postings and networking. That is not to say that it will be a successful endeavor though. They need to sell the student on the value of paying a human writer instead of using AI. That is actually where our problems these days lies. The students now grew up as a part of the tech world. They trust tech more than they do other people when it comes to completing their tasks.

Right now, it's only the very best writers with very long (confirmable) records of high-quality writing who can still make a living doing this. It's probably no longer a viable industry for new writers hoping to break into this kind of work for the first time.
