Manuscript Services and Other Such Companies to work with

Hi all,

I just joined this forum and am trying to get a foot in the door doing freelance writing. My expertise is really essay writing and literature.

Book ScriptI have an MA in English and have been teaching college-level writing courses (composition, literature, business writing, research writing) for the last 8 years. I've also done a lot of essay writing for grad school (you don't have much of a choice when you study literature ;-) ) and I actually love to research and write papers. So I'm looking into essay writing jobs as well, stuff that I can do from home.

However, I have a big big concern as to how companies like Manuscript Services (which is one I've come across) and others work. I teach a lot of online composition and research writing courses and the issue of purchasing essays from companies or even some cheaper site such as StudentofFortune is a great concern for many teachers. The last thing that I want is to sign up with a company that is in essence contracting me to write essays for students to purchase and turn in as their own for college courses. The thought fairly makes me sick, to be honest.

So does anybody know anything about Manuscript Services in this respect? The website states the following: "We will write a custom written essay or research paper based on your subject, which you can use as a springboard for your own work." But who's to say that the client will indeed use the essay as a "springboard" and not try to pass it off as his/her own?

Also, are there companies that hire essay writers to help students write essays rather than write an entire essay for them? That's really more what I think I would be good at because I'm good at working one-on-one with people and helping to point things out to improve their writing.

Any advice?

You're basically a pen for hire at this point, so while it's great that you have a concern about morals, you usually have to take what you can get in the freelance world even if it means writing papers for others. The other way is to be a blogger and build your authority around a certain subject matter. This will allow you to guest post for other sites, and eventually get paid big bucks to do so.

They used to be one of the few good ones to work for, but then they got taken over by something called EssayFirst and I got cheated out of 208 pounds.

Manuscript Services always paid on time at the end of the month, and if you are lucky enough to find a company like that then stick with them. They are gone now, unfortunately, and this scam outfit is in their place.

I regret that, but it's one of the reasons I just walked away from this writing business completely.

You say you walked away completely, yet here you are posting on a site wholly devoted to the industry. The way you're reviving years-old threads about this company (which I would think gives them more publicity than simply staying silent) also makes it seem like you just got scammed.

Yes, Mother of John, I did walk away and this is one of the reasons that I did.

I don't have any clients and represent no company so I can say whatever I please.

I am like Harry Truman. I don't give 'em hell, I just tell the truth and they think it's hell.

That still doesn't explain why you've chose this moment to respond in several threads, most of them many years old, about Manuscript Services. If you actually left this business awhile ago then you've been holding this grudge for a very long time, and are still actively seeking out ways to wreak vengeance on those you feel have wronged you.

I'm really just trying to make sense of it. Why, years after the fact, would you conduct a search for "Manuscript Services" and post a bunch of replies to years-old threads telling people how you got cheated out of money?

Why are you so concerned about my business? You tend to your business and let me tend to mine, and we'll get along just fine.

This is a place for discussion. Your posts don't make sense to me, so I'm asking about them. You never answer, which leads me to believe you're either a liar or crazy.

I answered you. What part of "it's none of you business" don't you understand?

I would add that they WERE an honest company once, before they changed hands and became Essay First. Then they really went downhill.

If you are looking for a job in this industry that will not ask you to sacrifice your morals when writing "model" papers, then you have another thing coming. A majority of the students who pay for "model" papers will automatically submit these for a grade. That is why the companies promise that the writers will develop fresh, new, and never before published essays for the client. If you cannot get over such a thing happening then it would be better for you to stick to a teaching job. You never know in the academic writing business, when you might come across a student from your class who just hired you to write a paper for him. True story. It has happened several times.

This post leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It is one thing for a person who has a writing acumen to fall into the academic writing business. It is another thing for an educator of any sort to get into the business and even ask about ethical academic writing to a certain extent. There is no such thing as ethical academic writing when a teacher, professor, or instructor engages in academic writing for students. This should be considered a violation of the teacher's oath (if there was one) as he is aiding and abetting in the violation of the academic oath students take when attending school. The fact that this OP is encouraging cheating among students makes me wish I could have made his lose his job as an educator when he first made this post.
