When will orders pick up for writers this season? Summer / holiday strategies?

i know the school year has started, but it seems most order boards are still relatively slow. does anyone have any idea when things start really kicking back in gear for season?

What do all of you spend your summers doing to keep leads consistent?

Do you guys just spend the down time preparing for the beginning of the fall term?
Do you find a channel where you can gain summer students?

It depends with what websites you are contracting with. Some websites are somewhat busy while others not.

You may ask FreelanceWriter who used to do freelancing for a company and now hardly ever takes any orders from them :).

Summer in Australia/New Zealand is December, January and February, so this time of year we are pretty busy. That is when I might target the US/UK market for work and vice versa. If you have non-academic clients in commerce, industry and so forth you can level out the peaks and troughs a bit. During the summer here I chase writing units of learning for various courses for TAFE and Unis or exam model answers for the High School matriculation papers. I always take 20 Dec to 26 January off for a vacation and just write for me (fiction) if I feel like it.

Get any reply in quick before Phyleks or one of the other losers leaps in and turns the thread into an insult fest.

That is awesome. Yeah my australian clients have mentioned their summers being during a different time. I'd like to definitely have nations in the pacific fill in my American summer gap. I've also began pushing smaller services like resumes and cover letters. They aren't as big as writing projects, but they keep you busy and allow you to brand yourself.

yeah, i'm hoping for a lot of lazy and morally ambiguous students this year.

if anyone cares i talked to some people and they said it really starts picking up in october

If you don't know yet, you need to have a writer's account with several companies; one company won't give you enough projects to choose from.

Currently I work for myself (a couple of projects a week from my private clients who found me online) and also take projects from a few different companies on regular basis. This is the only way you can survive in the online freelance writing world :).

I don't anticipate that many--if any--writers will jump at the opportunity to help you compete with them.

It depends on the essay writer service provider from which you are taking this service. There are different organizations who provide service for essay writing but I don't know that in which month they launch their service. Before taking writing service from any organization you first confirm from them that when they will complete your order.

Did you graduate from high school without learning how the seasons work? You do realize that the Pacific has nothing to do with when summer is, right?

Also, "brah," you really ought to make your website registration info legal (that means correct) again. You were so cavalier about this info being freely available, yet so quick to hide it like a little chicken s-i* when you realized how easily it could be found.

Unfortunately for you, websites require legal admin and technical contacts, including the name of a legal entity (your website is not a corporation, buddy--did you even read a basic "how to start a business" article before jumping into this?). This means "K R" and "R K" are not acceptable as a name, even if they are your initials, and listing 1115 eagle, Seattle when that address doesn't exist is a big non-no.

Take your broken English elsewhere, transparent spammer. The site won't let you advertise anymore, will they?

Wait till the vacation seasons during the school year kick in. The orders normally pick up around Spring Break, then again around Thanksgiving, and then come in like tidal waves around the Christmas break. During the regular year, the orders seem to pick up only on the weekends for some reason. Just be patient and wait it out. With any luck, you should have managed to create a regular client base during the previous academic season that could help you with your income generation during the current semester. Sometimes it takes a long time for the work to kick in, specially if you are just starting out at the company because the higher rated writers get right of first refusal over the orders coming in. What the newer writers see as available are the leftovers from the more credible and higher value writers of the company. Do your best to work your way up the ladder during the active semester so that you can go up in the ranks and have the opportunity to see more orders as well. Your writer ranking in the company makes a lot of difference in terms of seeing what orders are available in the system.

Based on Google trends data I created this chart that seems to be a pretty good representation of a typical 'essay writing season' for freelance writers and academic paper services. The overall trend is downward due to some negative factors, like the fraudsters' strategy to create hundreds of websites to scam a few students at a time or publishing totally bogus reviews written by their own writers. This has created uncertainty among students because when only 1 out of 50 websites found on Google is legitimate, figuring out who is a scam or not may be tricky.

A typical academic writing and research season in given months .

It's pretty accurate, just push Jan a bit down and June a bit up - at least from my perspective. Also, April and May should be way higher, somewhere around the range of November

Your summer and holiday strategies need to include some other form of freelance writing such as blogging, paid reviews, and other similar sorts of writing jobs. I tend not to rely on academic writing during the summer and holiday season because there aren't enough students enrolled during those months anyway. If I take a wait and see attitude when it comes to that, it would mean having to touch my savings account to stay afloat. Which is something I would rather not do.

I found that the majority of my income during these slow periods come from other sources, not the academic avenue. Most likely because the students don't get much homework during that season as the teachers would also rather have a light workload for the duration of the summer or holiday seasons. So my blogging and professional writing services are what I fall back on during those seasons.

You can't track how much business another writer gets from repeat clients.

It's wise not to put all your eggs in one basket. When you rely on one source of writing income (i.e. academic only), any downshift can have a big negative impact. Writers whose sole income is derived from writing (i.e. they write full time and do not work outside the home) tend to offer more than just academic writing services. If you don't, then you're putting yourself and your future in jeopardy. Sure, some may save during peak months to cover slow seasons, but that doesn't do anything for you long term. If you are wanting to build or save for the future, you will find that relying on savings during slow months only puts you in an endless cycle where nothing is really saved for the future (i.e. retirement planning, etc.).

It's wise not to put all your eggs in one basket.

This is something that should be addressed and reiterated many times to academic writers. I am still baffled when I see writers who complain about slow seasons as I am sure that they know fully well that there will be instances wherein students are just not in school. Simply put, don't rely on just academic writing as your career path. Not only am I certain that you will be burn out soon, but you will also have a difficult time trying to compensate with those off seasons. Try to always be smarter when dealing with these types of career paths. I am sure that no experienced academic writer (or anyone who's in freelancing for that matter) would recommend that you simply stick with this all year long because it will only stress you out.

Nowadays, people go to school 12 months out of the year, especially when they get their degrees online. Once you have an established clientele, regular work comes in all the time, although somewhat less than you might want during the typical slow months and somewhat more than you might want during the peaks of the typical busy seasons.

Freelance writers need to be chameleons these days. You can't just focus on the academic writing sector and hope that things pick up for you. The independent writing business has blown wide open so that anybody who can write well can actually find employment in various fields. There is no sense in focusing on just the academic writing field and then fretting during the slow season. If you are worried about how long you are going to last and when the orders will finally pick up , then you are not really a skilled or qualified writer. Diversify your writing styles so you can stop worrying about if or when the academic writing season will pick up.
