The Feeling of Being Scammed by a "So-Called" Writer from Kenya - Story

Well hi everyone, I am not looking for sympathy but I am looking for is a "what I am able to do next" & for everyone to be aware and not scammed.

"
Last week I found a "so-called" writer on the chat here. I emailed him believing he would be able to assist me in my assignment. I gave him instructions, notes and was extremely lenient. I provided so much autonomy, when he said he would get it done in 3-4 days, I was perfectly fine with that and even told him to take his time. I paid him about 60% through Paypal. When I questioned him why he is from Kenya. He provided assurance, and all of these lies stating I should not be worried and how he has a PhD etc.... the speech was good, not going to lie.

I proceeded with trust and faith that I would be able to get some assistance with my assignment. Days go by, I ask for updates, nothing but a demand for the full payment. I paid him, he sent me a 1 paged - copied and paste article on Google. 4 days pass, still received nothing. 8 days pass, received an email asking for more money as the assignment is challenging. At this point I did not want to pay him due to the lack of communication and at this point my trust has went down. I do not want to waste any more of my hard earned undergrad money.

I told him that I am being so lenient and allowing him so much time, while I am getting penalized for a late assignment. I trusted him and provided payment in full and was extremely nice. 10 days pass, and when I inquiry about my assignment yesterday he sends me an email saying:

" i know, please understand my friend. okay, give me 3 more hours. " & when I called him a liar he emails me saying:
"please do not call me a liar. wait for 3 hours and if i fail, file a dispute with Paypal. is that a deal?"

1 day goes by, I am fed up so I file a dispute on Paypal. Knowing that I am losing 300$, time and my dignity.
he has the audacity to say:
"let's hope filling a dispute will solve the issue." and
"So what do we do? I hope you know that PayPal does not protect customers for services. Read their policies if you think you can get a refund. I don't give a damn."

All in all, i have been scammed 300$, I filed a report on Paypal. I am an idiot for choosing a Kenyan writer, no offense to other great Kenyan writers. Ultimately, it is my fault.

I am going to provide his information so no one else gets scammed!! Please be more aware and assertive to what you are getting from your writer.

He goes by: Gordon Jim and his email is gordonjim2040@yahoo

His Paypal information is:

Business Name:
crosstsons (The recipient of this payment is Non-U.S. - Verified)
Email:
aderojim@yahoo

Business Contact Information

Customer Service Email:

Customer Service Phone:

I hope you guys don't fall for scam like I did. Even after a week+ of allowing him time I still received nothing. Please be careful! :)

So guys, I lost my money and I can not do anything right?

writer on the chat here

Can you please clarify this "here"?

Trusting someone this easily is no more an option in the essay industry.

Hi am sorry for what you went through, I must admit it is painful to lose that amount of money... As a writer I do research on my fellow writers so that I can assist my clients not to fall into the wrong hands. The person that conned you,, has done that to several students. He has a blog where he exposes the students that seek academic assistance and he does that through the same process he did with you. This is the blog and you can even see his names there at the end. academicdishonestyandcheating.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Yes, This guy approached me as well as a writer. I asked him for his credentials, and he was reluctant in sharing the same. He finally submitted his Resume and a few samples. I have attached his CV here. Thankfully, I did not use him for any of my orders (no wonder he was asking for a deposit). I feel bad for you and I hope that you get a refund from him. Has he replied to the Paypal dispute as yet? In case he doesn't not respond at all to the dispute, you have a very good chance of the dispute going in your favour. I do have some reliable contacts in Kenya though, not sure if that can help :-(

that's so sad, let me tell you I faced a similar situation with thecasesolutions.com and when I made a paypal claim this is what I got:

"Unfortunately, we are denying your claim because your purchase was for a
virtual, digital, or intangible item, which is not covered under PayPal
Purchase Protection. We only cover claims involving physical items that can
be shipped and tracked."

I am so sorry for what happened. I am Kenyan, it is so distressing to see what some of my countrymen do to innocent clients. 300 dollars is a lot of money, at least the guy could have had some respect. However, next time, make sure you pay after the writer delivers not the other way round. That way, it will be easier to have top quality work.

Well this website did not serve a purpose for long. The last post made on it was in 2014. Which means the blogger ran into a bit of legal trouble and had to give up his blackmailing channel. I doubt if he would have stopped if legal charges had not been brought forth. These blackmailers are really stupid people. They think they can get away with this crime just because they do it online. I guess they never heard of, or believe in "the long arm of the law".

Unfortunately, we are denying your claim because your purchase was for a virtual, digital, or intangible item.

The last time I checked, Paypal already covered intangible items such as digital purchases and virtual services. There is a refund process now available for these possible payment problems. Paypal used to refuse to cover these sorts of purchases but since the claims were piling up, they had to create a policy that would protect the buyers of virtual services. They were losing clients fast because their policies were not keeping up with the times. That is why students who get scammed via PayPal can now transact confidently. They can get their money back if scammed by a writer provided they have proper documentation to prove their claim.

PayPal buyer/seller protection does currently cover virtual services, but there's still quite a bit of room for issues that completely invalidate those protections, as well as for getting ripped off, outright, even on PayPal, both for service providers and for customers, unless you really know what you're doing and exactly how to plug various very specific loopholes in advance.

@FreelanceWriter Do you know of any common loopholes when dealing with writing companies or independent writers that students should know about when they want to pay via PayPal? I am sure they would appreciate someone guiding them in terms of avoiding the pitfalls of digital payments in the academic writing industry. You, being the most seasoned independent writer here should be able to mention a few PayPal tricks that would help them avoid getting scammed when it comes to using the payment channel.
The opinions are that of the author's alone based on an individual capacity. Opinions are provided "as is" and are not error-free.

Unfortunately, if I posted it publicly, it would probably be more harmful than helpful, because scammers would also learn how to take advantage of those same loopholes. Each student who reads it represents only one person possibly learning how to protect himself; on the other hand, every scammer who reads it represents dozens or hundreds of potential victims against whom he could misuse that same info.
