Helpwithassignments Refund issue

I purchased an essay from Helpwithassignments.Co.uk on a Thursday and we agreed the latest day for essay completion was the Sunday. It says on their website they only refund half the amount and the rest goes to "service fees". I received the essay on the following Wednesday which I wasn't happy about as it was days past the deadline. I used the essay anyways but had to edit large amounts of it though I still kept the same quotes and references. I requested for a refund and a week later they contacted me saying they can refund my money or store the refund as credit for another assignment. I chose the refund and they said they were contacting their lawyers and need to get the copyright back from my University even though there had been no mention of copyright throughout the weeks of communication.

My other option was to pay them 650 pounds to recind the refund which I obviously refused. They then sent me a screenshot of an email they were getting ready to send to my university stating that I've used their essay to submit, their litigation team is going to visit the university and they attached screenshots of our WhatsApp chat, my proof of payment and the copyright document (which was never mentioned or sent to me about whatsoever).

I just want to know if ye think this is a legit threat or not? I don't really care about getting my refund anymore and am a lot more concerned about my college receiving this threat.

And yes I'm never paying for an essay ever again, lesson has been learned.

This is just psych war. They are trying to make you believe that they actually have a legal basis for their claim, which they do not. They cannot retrieve any copyright claim from the university because there is no copyright claim. There was only an intellectual copyright that immediately transferred to you the minute the order was completed through the submission of the document to you. They only submitted a model paper, which was used as the basis of you original presentation. Since you did not use their essay in totality, and you can prove that you had to edit large chunks of the essay, using only their quotes, they cannot claim that they wrote the paper for you either.

It is legal to ask for research help, even pay for the help if needed, provided you have not used the actual paper they submitted to you for a grade. I believe you have nothing to worry about. There are really no worries on your part since they are nothing more than online blackmailers. You can ignore them if you wish or, you may approach your professor and come clean, saying that you used a research service, but wrote the paper yourself. Preemptive movements could help in this case, just to clear your conscience.

These companies always speak as if they are large conglomerates with a battery of lawyers (they do not), they also try to make you believe your have broken laws, which you did not. They only have another employee who knows how to draw up legal sounding and threatening communications. Do not give them any power over you. Ignore them. IMO, that would be the best move for you to take.

what did actually happen? did they contact your school or university? im going through something like this. please help me out

in my case they asked a huge amount of money to cancel the verification process ( them to ask my professor or my university that I didn't submit the work ) just for me to get the refund back. they actually named a university very close to mine but not it. saying they will go to ask if the paper was submitted and they said I can cancel it if i paid this much money!

They're guessing because they obviously don't even know where you actually go to school. (So, don't post any additional information about yourself here that could help them narrow down the possible choices.) You should post the name of the company here, to help other potential victims avoid the company, and you should read some of the advice given very recently to others in your situation. Essentially, block their emails and every other medium through which they've contacted you, and don't even read -- let alone respond to -- any messages that manage to get through to you. Do not even consider paying them or discussing payments to them, at all. If you pay them anything, they'll immediately demand additional payment under the same threat, because by paying them anything, you're letting them know that extortion can work on you. Don't purposely antagonize them, either, because that could motivate them to spend more time (and/or money) trying to identify your school and really contact your school. Just block and ignore them completely as soon as it becomes clear that they're demanding money by threatening to do something to you unless you pay them. That's the answer to your question and that's the best (and only intelligent) recommendation that you're going to get. Welcome to the forum.

I actually identified another student here who's
going through the same situation from the same company.. I want to tell them that this blackmailing wont work on me and i will report them to the police and the UK department of education. And I will post about them in every forum I know of.. I want to stop them from doing this to anyone else and stop them from hurting other students. they cant hurt me because i did not submit their paper and i didn't even bother to read it.

They are Expertacademichelp.co.uk

expose them!! they need to be punished for this

That is exactly what you should be doing. Do not allow them to silence you. Only by exposing them will they give up on harassing you. Report them to the authorities but first, make sure that they are truly a UK registered business with a valid and functioning UK address. @a1writer might be able to help in tracing them. He is also out to expose these scam UK writing companies and writers.
