Official Writer's Beware Scam Sites of 2012 Awards

With the new year fast approaching, the time has once again come to award the sites who have made the greatest and most unintentionally humorous effort to defraud students. If you are unfamiliar with these awards, they have been named in honor of past forum member Writer's Beware who made tireless efforts to expose many of these scams before she was mysteriously and, perhaps appropriately, banned from this very forum.

Exam OnlineThe award`s selection criteria is not limited to major sites, but also includes small-scale sites that have truly extended the boundaries of unethical and ridiculous business practices. As these awards are contingent on the input of forum members, it is necessary we receive nominations up until the new year. I'm hoping forum members will each post 2-3 of their own nominations.

My personal nominations for the year are:

1. 'Essaywriters.org' -- This Eastern European located essay site claims to be located in Edinburgh Scotland. In addition to farming out a considerable amount of labor to ESL writers, the page's very first line of text is riddled with grammatical errors "Nowadays extra busy schedule can drive crazy even the most hard-bitten and sciential student."

2. 'essaysaviors.wordpress.com' -- Not to leave out the efforts made by small business owners, my second nomination is the recently constructed Essaysaviors site. Although run by a native speaker, this site offers the criminally low rate of $10 per page, and claims to be looking for new writers; $5 per page anyone?

3. 'bestessays.com' -- Dubious claims about writer's credentials. Located in Ukraine, not the UK as they claim. Multiple spam pages to attract gullible students.

Curious about a sample? How about this gem, "I do not know what color death is. For some reason, I associate it with black, but that`s the color of sleep, and sleep is good. I don`t think we disappear into infinite blackness upon death, nor do I believe oblivion to be black. Maybe it`s not even white." Indeed, Essaysavors, indeed.

As Dave Barry puts it, "2012: Looking back in horror."

Why are you so paranoid about WritersBeware? Is it because her claim that you are a serial plagiarizer has merit?

Why do you keep maintaining this charade that you are not one on the same person, and are on here to represent Essay Clown? Most of the regulars see through the pretense.

Essay Clown was one of the three companies that cheated me out of one months pay, but I got the other two to cough up. Only Essay Clown held out, despite being reported to the Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission, as well as the Department of Labor.

They are the most cunning and evil manipulators of all, but as I said, I have now resold all the essays I wrote for them many times--dozens and hundreds of them, so I got my money back just the same. LOL

I have had some communication with Michael, and I feel confident in saying he's not WB and is not promoting a company. Just a writer looking to get better and make more money, same as me.

I can only guess what company you are referring to, but I am not here to represent any company nor do I think any of my posts can be read that way. Your paranoia is preventing you from any semblance of objectivity, I fear.

So, you reported what you claim to be a fraud to these legal entities, and no action was taken? Did you have as much difficulty providing these departments with facts as you are having here?

You've made reference to this several times. Just out of curiosity, does this mean that you found many customers who were interested in paying top-dollar for pre-written essays or does it mean that you resold all of your previously-written essays to customers who paid top-dollar for work they thought was brand-new custom writing? I'm only asking (not accusing) because I've been doing this for a long time and have not seen any demand at all for pre-written essays for years.

not seen any demand at all for pre-written essays for years.

It actually depends upon the student. I make sure to let my clients know that they have the option to write the essay themselves, based on their familiarity with the topic. If they inquire further about familiarization, I offer the previously written essays in my roster. These are all essays that can be resold because the students who originally purchased the work have already graduated. I also make sure the student knows that this is a previously written paper so it cannot be reused for a grade. It is meant only to help the student familiarize himself with the topic should he decide to write it on his own. Normally, they buy the pre-written paper, then decide if they have the patience and ability to write the paper, or not. The pre-written work helps them make that decision. Do I lose some money when the student decides to write the paper himself? Yes, but, at least I made a little from the sale of the pre-written essay.

You don't think students already know that they have the option to write their own essays before contacting you?

The pre-written work helps them make that decision.

So, you're saying that you have some clients who actually buy both a prewritten essay from you, first, and then a custom essay on the same topic? That's fascinating. What essay company would this be that you own? I'd really love to read your website.

It would be very difficult to continue giving out this award these days. How can one pick the worst scam site in an industry that is currently overrun by fake writers, scam companies, and under educated ESL writers posing as ENL writers? It would be easier to simply give each company that has a negative review an award. The negative reviews come with proper documentation anyway and would really make the companies competitive with one another, in a highly negative way.
