The following is a very good example personal statement for a Pharmacy Program (Doctor of Pharmacy).

My commitment to the achievement of a Doctor in Pharmacy degree is the culmination of a lifelong curiosity in and appreciation for medicine. This educational path is an exceptional fit for my accrued experience and my goals for the future. I am driven by a personal passion for helping others and I have established a professional and educational record of excellence. My undergraduate study of biology has provided a strong foundation to further my learning. In direct work with patients, I have a unique appreciation for diversity and take pride in my ability to provide compassionate care for people of all backgrounds.
My own unique background has played an important role in my selection of pharmacy as a career. I am a first generation college student. My parents' journey to this country was motivated by their wish to provide me exceptional educational opportunities. In our home country, there are few opportunities beyond working on a farm. The move to this country was rewarding, yet challenging. To give up a lifetime of familiarity for a country of unknown is unimaginable. Such selfless motivation is inspiring and my commitment to educational and professional goals reflects their sacrifice. Professionally, I have acquired leadership skills through managing my family's business. While not directly related to medicine, I have developed excellent communication and customer service skills. These skills have proven assets in my volunteer work with patients. Although challenging to balance my many responsibilities, I found it imperative to experience work in a medical setting. I sought and maintain a volunteer position that provides direct interaction with patients.
In addition to the strong educational foundation I have established paired with real world professional experience, I am motivated by a life altering moment from my childhood. In striking detail, I can recall the experience of waking up in the hospital after being rushed there by my family. What they believed to be a minor fever had resulted in what doctors described as moments from death. I was unresponsive upon arrival to the hospital. It required hours of work by medical professionals and multiple medications to revive me. Even in a barely conscious state, I was aware that doctors and more specifically, medicine, had saved my life. Medicine has also saved the life of my aunt who was recently diagnosed with cancer and a premature nephew.
My life and the lives of my family are no more valuable than those of the strangers that I escort in and out of the hospital. We all share an appreciation for the priceless gift of medicine: life. It would be an honor to continue my commitment to lifelong learning in the study of medicine. It is my ultimate goal to return the favor of medicine and assist others by giving the gift of life.
