guys am soooooo upset!!! i sent 70pounds on theessay.com i aid for the work to be done in 2-4 hours and 2pages :( its now 9 hours later i cant get through to anyone and i dont think i will be getting my money back. its a scam the company is in india or something, also they have a chat line and you try and talk to them but because they know its you they avoid you and keep you waiting for hours. i am soo angry at myself i just need help with a few things not the whole thing now i am upset and dont know how to get my money back... what are our rights? who do i speak to? if anyone knows please help me ..i wish i had found this before i paid :(

Contact your credit card company and tell them that delivery never occurred, nor have you been able to reach anyone at the company. They can dispute and most likely reverse the charge.

I am sorry to hear you got scammed too. If people like us don't stand up to them they will keep ripping people off. Here is my story. Because of my work load I couldn't complete an essay and paid £59.80 to have the essay written for me. What I got back was a copy & paste version of a title document googled on the internet. I spotted it straight away as I had downloaded the very same document with the intention of using it for reference. I spent the evening on the phone trying to get through as did my partner, whose credit card I used. I spent 6 hrs on & off the infamous 24/7 live chat line only to be ignored.

On the up side, I finished the assignment at 4.10 am and submitted it by 9am. oh & I had the sense to copy & paste every page from the website including all the adds for the'100% plagarism free' work. I also emailed myself the interactions from the live chat line. I printed all emails including the order confirmation.

I called & emailed them only to be told that 'They have a no refund policy'. I told them that was ok cos they had a 100% plagarism free policy which they didn't stick to so breaking the refund policy wouldn't be any great drama for them. They positively insisted that they couldn't refund the money BUT once I mentioned that my partner had been to the bank & had been informed that once we could prove that they had taken the money under false pretences and that the bank would reverse the payment immediately, it was then that I was transferred to someone else called 'Alex' who offered a 40% refund. I declined the offer insisting that they can give me the full refund or the bank would & that I would also be handing all proof over to the police.

He tried to impress on me that I would 'hardly go to the police over such a small amount of money' & I said no I wouldn't be going to the police about the money, I would be going about the FRAUD. He has offered to have his manager call me back by 6pm tomorrow and if not he knows I will be going to the bank & police.

Here's how to deal with scam companies (which is NOT the same as companies falsely accused of being scams in here by the usual liars and spammers):

Firstly, contact your credit card company and/or PayPal - you may be able to get a refund there, though perhaps not as you got what you paid for (an essay) - and anyway, it's not much money you lost really, so perhaps you should have taken anything TheEssay was offering and THEN got your cash back from your credit card company too!!!

Secondly, contact Yahoo - TheEssay advertise a lot on there, and Google and other search engines - and they will block and ban TheEssay if there are complaints of fraud (their account will be frozen).

Thirdly, if in the UK you can contact trading standards at your local council and they will do all of this for you. (In the US you are on your own).

Better still, do your own essays in future and do not try and cheat!

And if you do want to buy a custom written essay, please understand that paying such a cheap price will NOT get you a quality essay written by a qualified writer - a third to a half of that money will go to the writer, which would mean your writer was getting a pittance.

You get what you pay for...

Stand up to them. Tell them that you are going to ask the banks to reverse the charges and that you are informing the police. It worked for me. I Was contacted by Adam from theessay.co.uk last evening and as he put it 'in an effort to put an end to the problem' he has agreed to give me a full refund. I have never tried one of those sites before and I never will again. I have always done my own work & while I may never be a straight A student I haven't failed eithir. But if I had submitted what these guys were giving me I wouldn't have to worry about getting any other assignments in on time because I would have been booted of my course.

Unless things have changed recently, I don't think you can do that. Not with direct payments (e.g. BACS, CHAPS). However, credit card payments you should be able to reverse.

However, it's maybe still worth persisting with the bank. Perhaps you can file a complaint, and if enough other people do it, the bank will investigate, and probably close their account. Banks in the UK (and many other countries) have to comply with very strict anti-money laundering legislation, so if you give them genuine cause to worry about an account holder, they WILL take action.

Then i was told to send an email to a writer with the topic of my essay and the reference number and i would receive a call tomorrow from then. But i wanted to have something to track my order so i tried calling them on the phone but it goes to voice mail and also they ignore my chat messages. The sites you mention COULD be scams, but your story does not prove anything either way.

The best way to tackle scam companies is to target the places where they advertise: Google and Yahoo for example. But you'll have to do better than crying down the phone that you're not happy with your essay...

I have just been done too, however I was one step ahead. I received a written piece which I wouldn't put through the shredder never mind turnitin. It was revised twice and still aload of rubbish, I did do the work myself because I hard a feeling things were not right. The company ignored all my attempts to reach them. I did however find out that because I was advised of the 7 day cooling off period (cancel the order within 7 days) the customer has an automatic right of 3 months and 7days within which the customer can cancel, this is under the distance selling act. However if this was not the method of payment then a department for trading standards based in the US can help by disputed the case for you and requesting the refund. The address for that is bbb.org. You can also file a complaint against the companies practice, I did hopefully it will ruin their street cred. Dealing directly with the company did not help me and I was not prepared to lose £345.

I have been paid back in full. You can be too if you stand up for yourself and fight. This is my first time using any kind of service like this and what a mistake. I also felt extreamly guilty so did do the work myself anyway. A message for anyone thinking of using a writing service, save your money and don't become an instant failure.
