Blackmailing and Threat by Global Dissertation Company

Hi , So I contacted a company to write a dissertation for me and they quoted my 4 quotes after the final quote we both agreed and the initial agreement was that I will deposit £50 and £100 the next day to initiate the work.

But this was just done on a piece of form and not even any signed deal or anything and most of the conversation happened on Whatsapp. Within an hour or two, I changed my mind to do my work on my own and was unsatisfied with the company as it seemed dodgy and asked for a refund. The company started acting weird and blackmailing me to pay the full amount.

Now they sent me an email saying they will sue me for defamation and company breach when I didn't even do anything. I even texted them the next day to ask for a refund and they kept saying I am backing off from the deal and that they will talk to the academic misconduct department and that I am a fraud and what not.

I did not even use their service and in fact, cancelled it within an hour and now they re saying they will approach my uni and revoked my degree. What should I do

@Shelly K

It is illegal for anyone to write essays for someone studying at an English University.
Do nothing, just ignore their emails or texts. You decided not to use them; wise move, wherever they are located in the world. How can they threaten to revoke your degree when you haven't yet graduated?

Name and shame the company here.

They do not have any legal leg to stand on. They are only scaring you to get money out of you. They cannot contact any department at your university, not even the cleaning department. You do not have any written agreement with them, they are offering an illegal service, they are blackmailing you. You should counter threaten them with exposure, by naming them on this board for starters, and also seeking electronic mediation through online mediation companies and procedures, to get your money back. You have done the right thing. Look into online mediation to get your refund. Students have successfully used such services in the past both in the UK and USA.
