The effectiveness of STFU in computer-mediated forums

Rather than making people shut up, it appears the use of "STFU" simply encourages responses. These findings have important implications for posters in computer-mediated forums who want to achieve their goal of actually getting people to shut up. In fact, there are 70 more instances of the use of STFU in various EssayScam.org forums besides the following, suggesting that the use of STFU is ineffective and should be abandoned in favor of "go to hell," "kiss my ass," or "bite me" as the situation dictates.

1. Mar 28, 13 - General Talk / Even the websites from EssayDirectory.com are not reputable?

in favor of "go to hell," "kiss my ass," or "bite me" as the situation dictates

Not sure these are any better. I have evidence that only rarely in this forum do these result in oral-anogenital contact or eternal damnation.

By the way, RustyWriter, where's your proof regarding helpessays.com[DND*]?

I'm never gonna fly again unless it's military. I've flown around the world a couple of times but no more commercial. Screw the Transportation Security Administration and their Gestapo-like cadre of misfits. Pat me??! Pat you, son of o' *****!

your point was that I should expect my writing skills to be reviewed directly by company ownership, regardless of their English proficiency, WB. as usual, it's indefensible, outside of your imagination.

what a brick wall. I think I need to take a cue from the professor here, start realizing that I'm not going to change your way of thinking, and crack more jokes.

so... two dudes, right... two dudes walk into a bar... and there's this nun...

your point was that I should expect my writing skills to be reviewed directly by company ownership

That was NOT the point, Liar of Liars. The point is that you DENIED my claim that company owners hire writers. You also DENIED that those company owners judge the writing proficiency of the writers who apply. So, the burden is on YOU to prove the validity of your outlandish denials. Hell, to this point, you STILL have not answered a simple question about the helpessays.com[DND*] company:

"If the owners of helpessays.com[DND*] (and, by extension, virtually all companies in the essay industry) do not judge the writing skills of applicants and hire the writers, who does?"

So, who agrees with editor75's claim that company owners do NOT judge the writing qualifications of applicants and do NOT hire the writers who work for their companies?

He was "cracking jokes" from the beginning, which is what led to our interaction. So, once again, thanks for proving yourself clueless and incompetent.

so... two dudes, right... two dudes walk into a bar... and there's this nun...

Okay. I'll make one up (sorta). So two dudes, right... two dudes walk into a bar... and there's these two fat nuns with Scottish-like accents yelling loudly at the bartender for a bottle of Guinness. One of the dudes says, "So you nuns are from Scotland, huh?" And the biggest, fattest nun, she's really fat remember... indignantly yells back, "It's Wales you friggin' heathens." The other dude immediately apologized and said..., "Sorry, are you two whales from Scotland?" That's the last thing either of them remembered about the incident.

that's pretty good for off the cuff. of course, it assumes that people can actually understand Welsh.

here's one I tell at parties:

so there's this blonde, and she's very upset; her man is cheating, and she's found out.

he comes in to this scene: she's been crying, she's a mess, and she's holding his automatic pistol. to his horror, she puts it to her temple.

"hey, just calm down," he says, "we can talk about this..."

"don't even," she snaps, "you're next."

it assumes that people can actually understand Welsh

Here's my joke in Welsh:

"Felly cael dau choegynnod, dde ... 2 choegynnod gerdded i mewn i bar ... ac mae y ddau lleianod braster gyda Scottish tebyg i acenion gweiddi yn uchel yn y bartender am botel o Guinness. Un o'r choegynnod yn dweud, "Felly rydych yn lleianod yn dod o'r Alban, huh?" A'r mwyaf, lleian fattest, mae hi'n wirioneddol braster cofio ... indignantly yells yn ôl, "Mae'n Cymru i chi friggin 'heathens." Mae'r dude arall ar unwaith ymddiheuro a dweud ..., "Mae'n ddrwg gennym, yn bod gennych ddwy morfilod o'r Alban?" Dyna'r peth olaf y naill neu'r llall ohonynt cofio am y digwyddiad."

Scary language.

suggesting that the use of STFU is ineffective and should be abandoned in favor of "go to hell," "kiss my ass," or "bite me" as the situation dictates.

Or maybe trying to encourage civilized discussion in the forum threads would work better? Personally, I would not allow any kind of cussing on a forum I own, specially one dedicated to education because that does not portray the participants in a good light. What is the sense in teaching kids to "use your words" when the adults cannot use their words effectively unless cussing each other out? What does that prove? What does that accomplish? Nothing, just further disgust and divide in a forum that should otherwise be united under one cause, stopping scam writers and sites from victimizing students on a regular basis.

I find that the forum no longer uses such crude language in its current incarnation. Probably because there are fewer users these days compared to before. That does not erase the habit of some people to try and illicit a reaction out of users here to serve their own means or feed their ego. In which case, I have learned to mute those types of posts and responses. The best reaction is no reaction. Like they say; "Do not feed the animals" . Hahaha !
