I'm an ESL student and here is my example essay. I hope it's good enough to show that ESL students can be good writers too :)
Write a two or three paragraph rhetorical analysis in which you analyze your profile from a rhetorical perspective. What is the communication context surrounding your profile? What rationales do you have behind your content, organization, style and design decisions? What aspects of the writing process went well? Not so well? What did you find challenging about writing your profile and why?Rhetorical Analysis of Professional Profile
In the beginning, it is a good idea to write about previous work experience to show exactly which direction my career had taken. Vocational school was worth mentioning because it does not appear to be a typical course of action for the average American student. The average American student is encouraged to go to college after high school. China's vocational schools usually train a worker for a particular job. In this case, it was working in the hospitality industry. Mentioning interpersonal skills, collaboration, and liaison skills development is necessary because they are very important to most employers today. In doing research for different jobs, I have found that all of them require good people skills and a strong ability to "work with the team." It is even true for jobs that do not require strong interpersonal skills such as a computer programmer.
Writing the profile has been simple. In looking at past performance and what was learned on those jobs, it helped put together a more complete picture of who I am, what I have accomplished, and what I have to offer. I am good with people and have an international perspective that would help me in any government job I apply for. I have had a few major challenges in writing this piece.
First, as English is my second language, I often struggle in using exact grammar and syntax. It helps to write down all of my ideas and then carefully edit them.
Second, in translating my thoughts from Chinese to English there are ideas that are lost in translation so it becomes very difficult to explain why I had written the things I did.
