Dear Sir or Madam,

I provide quality translations of written texts in English from Russian, German, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish, and have been working on a freelance basis for over ten years. I have experience of translating on a wide range of subject matter, but specialist areas are in legal documentation, usually contracts, legal statements etc, and literary works: past projects have included travel writings, classical novels, political and historical works, most of which have been subsequently published.

I also provide services in proof-reading translations and other texts.

Promptness of delivery, accuracy and finding the correct terminology are all top priorities for me, and I work according to the client's specifications. I can also offer advice and suggestions where appropriate, e.g. I can advise and make recommendations where more than one rendering of a text is possible.

I look forward to being of service to you in the future.

#####

I am a native Russian and Ukrainian speaker (I was lucky to be born in Ukraine where the majority of people are bilingual). My other good fortune is that when I was seven, my parents sent me to the specialized language school with advanced study of English, knowledge of which made me free in communications.

Later I kept my learning of English going at the university (I received a bachelor's degree in International economy with advanced level of English), and, at the same time, I was attending the Language Training Courses with native English speaking teachers.

Before graduating I joined a computer company as a bilingual secretary where I was doing EN-RU translations of user's guides, service and installation manuals related to computer equipment and household appliances.

Upon graduating I have worked in various international companies and projects (including the charitable fund, telecommunication, real estate and foreign trade companies and one of the biggest international retailers) where I had an opportunity to put my knowledge of language to use.

My expertise

Due to my diverse working experience I have general knowledge in different areas and I work in varied fields of expertise, like Business/Commerce, Management, Financial Markets, Real Estate, Marketing, Tourism & Travelling, IT & Computers, Household appliances and Digital equipment.

Furthermore, my wide range of interests and experience allowed me to work with such subjects as Shopping, Clothing, Fashion, Cosmetics, Beauty, Entertainment, Food/Cookery/Drink, Automotive and Sports.

Also I provide volunteer translations for non-profit and charitable organizations that put special attention to children-specific issues.
I do not accept medical, technical scientific and engineering translations as I could not guarantee the quality.

My average daily output is 3,000-5,000 words. All my rates are negotiable (for the large volumes of work and long-term customers I can offer services at reduced rates). I am also accessible when you need me - I usually reply to the emails within next few hours, and I am available at the weekends if the project requires this.

Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Yuri; I am a highly creative English translator from Russia. I do translation, editing, proofreading, writing, researching, and localization.

I prefer to work in all specializations of translation as I assure accuracy and proficiency of English<>Russian translation whilst maintaining consistently high standards and ready to provide top quality translation in almost all fields, and guarantee delivery at the due time as I never missed my due time.

I am good reader and reviewer and able to work under stress, co-operative, self-motivated practical energetic, organized and excellent communication skills.

Follows is a brief introduction about myself and my translation work.

I was an English major back in college, after which I had been working in export business for three years with English as my working language; therefore, fluency in English is not an issue for me. I had part-time experience in translation, which makes me fully understand what you expect from my work. Now I am a full-time freelancer / editor / writer, and looking for regular customers to embark on a long-term collaboration with them. For this matter, I believe that my translation works will evoke a good impression about me as a translator.

It's my pleasure to help you any time. Thanks for your time.

Best regards.

I know there are free service such as Google etc

You won't believe the hilarious translations that Google translate has been doing. Even though they claim to have human translators working on the AI translator, there will always be something missing or going wrong with the translation. That is why I refused to go into the international translation service even when the opportunity for me to do so arose. I prefer to have humans translating for my clients. The human translators can always see beyond the simplistic translation of words, using unique ways of translation instead. Humans can translate words using close enough terms to deliver the correct meaning of the sentence being translated. An AI cannot do that. The AI does not have the ability to decipher sentence meanings and come to a close translation. It will merely translate word for word and the user, can only hope that the AI translation is as close to what he means to say as possible.

AI language translation abilities have come a long way since this thread was last posted to. We are nearing the Star Trek era of automatic language translation through a wearable device. I believe that it is Lenovo that came out with the earbuds translator. You just have to speak in your native tongue and the device will take care of translating it, accurately I might add, to a language of your choice. I have been using the device since it was gifted to me during the last holidays. I must say, it have given me a new income revenue stream. I can now translate any language in the world to English with great accuracy. Now, I am just waiting for the automatic language translation detector ala Star Trek to become a reality. We are getting there.

Language translation is definitely something that AI programs already do well; I just wouldn't trust AI to write even a half-decent academic essay.
