Hi, I used an essay writing service last year - I used a small amount of what they gave me for the dissertation - now they say I'm under investigation by the DFE. Can someone help? I don't have a large amount to pay them.

I'm incredibly scared

Lots of messages saying if I can't pay the dfe will investigate.
Don't know if anyone can see this but I'm in a very bad mental state right now.
@WillArdo
Sorry to hear about this. For what it's worth, I'm not impressed with their website
If you read the recent advice given to students in your position, you will see that it is highly likely this essay company is a scammer and is bluffing. The best thing is to block their email and phone calls and don't engage with them. The more you engage with them the more they will pursue you.
Their threat about dfe is an empty threat to scare you into sending them more money. If you receive a letter purportedly from the dfe it will be fake. Do nothing.
@WillArdo
No worries. You are not under investigation and you do not need to pay them anything. Do not communicate with them. Send the emails from their address to spam. Do not be scared. They are using the same con they previously used on another student here. Which turned out to be the scam company being creative in presenting what look like authoritative emails to school and education authorities. Nothing like that will ever take place. You do not need to pay them anything specially since you did submit their paper for a grade, which is what they think you did. Using only a portion of the paper, with proper crediting does not fall under plagiarism of academic dishonesty standards. You used the model paper exactly as it was designed to be used. Do not answer their calls. Block their numbers. Do not allow them to get to you mentally. Shut them out. If you have any questions, ask away, we will do our best to set your mind at ease. Your mental health is very important to us.
@a1writer, this looks like another case where you might be able to help. Care to try? It is another scam UK company it seems.
PDF I was sent
And email I was sent
Come to think of it I used some of what they gave, the structure - some wording. One or two citations but it was all quite horrible -
It's the fact they are asking 5 months after the fact that I'm panicking about.

@WillArdo
The dfe letter is fake, for reasons I have set out before, e.g. no phone number, no email, wrong format etc.
The article in the link below, about 207 Regent Street, London, the purported address of Ace Your Studies may interest you.
'The posh London address 4,000 firms call home: But it's not their real office, they pay £24 a month for a forwarding service - and it's a scammers paradise.'

Ok, and the email they forwarded "academic miss conduct" surely the dfe wouldn't misspell that.
Also, I just can't believe it. I'm still super scared. Only a few months from graduation. Moreover what else can I do - I've blocked them. I did email back about 7 times - they seemed happy to let the dfe investigate - I closed the email ac and changed my phone number.
Didn't think it would be a scam - 5 months ago - haven't had any contact since until this week, scared.
@WillArdo
I didn't read the email, but now you have pointed the spelling error out.......although I'm not sure civil servants always have perfect spelling!
Blocking them is good and now you have to forget them as they will forget you when you are no longer a target for them.
You have enough evidence to demonstrate the scam the company is operating. You have nothing to be scared of.
Chill out and watch the Budget Statement tomorrow. I'm sure that will take your mind off things!
In the email there is quite a few grammatical errors aswell, so I was suspicious, if only there was a way to tell a doctored photo. Because all the dfe contact info is correct.
@WillArdo
But the dfe letter is definitely fake, so please stop worrying. Being British, I can spot errors in the format.
Dfe always put phone number and email on their letters. The scammers can't do this because it will show they are fake, and expose their scam.
Hello, further emails received, I gave them incorrect information and theyve used the incorrect information to further threaten me, feeling a bit better. Still, not the stress I needed for the day. Obviously still very worried. I think it is a scam, lots of emails where if i dont pay its over.
@WillArdo
We have told you what to do and shown that the company are scammers. By interacting with them, even to prove something to yourself, you are prolonging your own stress. It is up to you, but I strongly urge no contact with them.
No more contact my end. It was a final email they sent. I will be very stressed for a while but thanks for everything guys. Don't know if this whole thread could be taken down/ don't want them to find me on here?
@WillArdo
They scam way too many people for them to keep track of. Provided you did not use any identifying markers, such as your real name as your username, they cannot identify you from the next student. They will not find you here provided you followed the safety rules as advised when you signed up. This is a safe place to expose scammers. You have no fears or worries when you speak out here

I went thro the same thing few weeks ago! I know exactly how you are feeling!
Please listen to a1writer and noted advice! They have helped me so much and gave me support when i was seriously thinking of ending my own life!
You have nothing to worry about since you gave them the wrong infos and you have used their paper! Do not give them any more money!
Thanks for all the help guys. But if the photos could be taken down by a moderator or something that would put my mind at ease. If that's possible. 3rd search bar on google and wouldn't like to be found out by that company.

That's exactly why I keep advising every one of you victims not to continue posting about your experience here beyond simply sharing the name of the company responsible. After that, stop discussing it publicly and just block every means by which they've contacted you. If they still manage to get through, delete their messages, unread.
