ukessays.co.uk & ukdissertations.com

UKdiss.com and UKEssays are connected. However both sites have a link to 'Information for UK students' which sets out the reasons both sites will not produce work for students which are in breach of the 2022 legislation outlawing essay writing mills.

General Talk / Essay Writing Mills Illegal? [18]

As an experiment I typed Essay mills are banned in England into an A1 Essay Writer. I am impressed with the response.

"Essay mills are companies that provide students with pre-written essays for a fee. These services have been a growing concern in the academic community, as they encourage plagiarism and undermine the integrity of education. In response to this issue, England has recently banned essay mills.

This decision is an important step towards ensuring academic honesty and fairness. By prohibiting these services, universities can better protect their students from the temptation to cheat and maintain high standards of academic excellence.

However, it is important to note that this ban alone will not solve the problem of academic dishonesty. Students must also be educated on the importance of original work and proper citation practices. Additionally, universities should provide resources for students who may struggle with writing or time management.

Overall, the ban on essay mills in England is a positive development for academic integrity. It sends a clear message that cheating will not be tolerated and encourages students to take responsibility for their own learning".

@Tutorsindia152
If you are based in the UK, as your Profile suggests, why are you offering illegal essay services to students in England? In fact even if you are based outside the UK, (eg India), your services are still illegal, if they include writing assignments for students or helping them so that the assignment is 'not their own work.'

With the help of experts from reputed institutions, the students can be assured of high-quality work at a reasonable price.

This is illegal and you are putting students' university education and careers at risk by breaching English law.

Your response that maybe someday someone will single out FLW is so off-point as to be pathetic. ....There have been laws on the books in various places about this sort of thing for dozens of years-- but no boots on the ground

Your English grammar is atrocious and takes some deciphering. You are expecting me to guarantee that British authorities will take action against a foreign based company or individual. What a stupid comment.

Essentially, when it comes to reality, nothing has changed, has it?

Did you understand the Australian example where action was taken?

Do you think it is fine to disregard laws you think you can get away with breaching? What an example to set.

@catyradidbanana
Are you his mouth piece now?

Maybe you didn't see this from another thread or more likely you chose to ignore it. This is my response to FW's assertion that international law doesn't apply to him.

[i]'Allow me to educate you in the law, yet again.
October 2021. Australia's higher education regulator has won a court injunction against a foreign essay mill, in the first exercise of a 2020 law that prohibits contract cheating services.

https://www.timeshighereducation.com/news/first-blood-australian-contract-cheating-law
The regulator revealed in May 2021 that it had identified a test case to trial its newfound powers. It said at the time that the case would be submitted to the Federal Court "to test the legislation and inform our subsequent approach".

The regulator said it was the first time it had taken action of this kind under a 2020 amendment to its legislation. " Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (Teqsa) selected this website because we believed we were able to demonstrate its operators were in breach of Australian law," chief executive Alistair Maclean said.

The equivalent English law is in its infancy, but it may well look to a foreign based company or foreign based individual to pursue as a test case. Perhaps it will look to America for such a test case, particularly if a company or individual is acting illegally and has been notified to the authorities.'

So your philosophy seems to be, if you can get away with it, then it's fine to break the law. Hardly, the mark of an honest or reputable person.

Incidentally, the OP of this thread used me for his 15-page English Literature project

I hope the OP is not studying at a university in England as you are breaking the law and putting the OP in danger of being kicked out of university and ruining their chosen career.

Redoing them from scratch, and without using any part of those essays, is usually the only reasonable option.

Hopefully you are not doing this for students studying at English Universities, since this would mean you are breaching the recent essay mill legislation. Furthermore, any such students would find their careers over before they have begun, and face strict anti-cheating rules imposed by their universities.
a1writer
Apr 07, 2023

@Tutor_Joan
If you bothered looking at UK Essays website for example, you will see that they do comply with English law by undertaking various checks on prospective clients and rejecting those they believe would cause the company to breach English law.

If you had read my post thoroughly, you would see that English universities are taking steps to educate students about the illegality of so-called 'essay mills' and offering them assistance via the university itself and students' union. The serious repercussions for students caught 'cheating' are hammered home.

If you were honest and reputable you would not provide a dissertation service that you know to be in breach of English law. Unless of course you only believe in obeying laws that suit you. The onus is on you to obey the law.

I don't see this as being two-faced or attention seeking. I do however detect a whiff of someone who is annoyed that I have spelt out a law, which does not suit their purposes.

@noted
The essay writer is the one committing a criminal offence, not the student. In the UK, some universities are making students aware of the repercussions of essay cheating in their induction process. They point students to assistance available from the university, if students are stuggling with their essays.

Universities are also scrutinising students' Personal Statements to see if their grammar and style is similar to that used in their essays. Of course this presupposes that the students wrote their own Personal Statement in the first place! Universities and students' unions are collaborating to develop other methods of detecting essay cheating, but they are not making their techniques public for obvious reasons.

'Commissioning a third party to do a piece of assessment for you, with the intention of submitting it as if it were your own work' is treated by University College London (UCL) as 'contract cheating'. This is a specific type of academic misconduct which can be investigated and penalised as a breach of UCL's assessment regulations, the outcome of which may be expulsion.

Professional bodies, like those for engineering, laws, architecture etc., take a stern view of cheating and can disbar you from practising your chosen profession. Many professions, e.g., medicine, teaching etc., are also subject to 'fitness to practise' procedures designed to determine if you have the knowledge, skills and character required for that career. If you haven't done the groundwork now, you are setting yourself up for failure down the road'.

The English law makes the act of advertising essay writing services as well as actually writing them, illegal. Any caveats given to students about not handing in the work as their own, does not make the service legal.

Most essay companies and essay writers are aware of the ban on essay writing in England, and any who continue to provide the service are dishonest and unscrupulous, putting students' careers at risk.

Apr 05, 2023

Essay companies and writers who advertise and write essays for people studying at universities in England are breaking the law. No ifs or buts or exceptions. Doesn't matter how many caveats the writer adds about not handing in the work as your own. It is illegal. Students need to heed this warning before hiring anyone who is acting illegally.

@Unknown12335

There is recent advice to other people who are in the same position as yourself.
In particular @noted has provided extensive, sound advice.

If it gets to the stage where you receive a likely 'fake' Department for Education (dfe) letter, then post it on here, as you can't be identified from it. The main purpose of publishing a fake letter is that it identifies the scammer including their address, which is likely fake too. As I am British, I am best placed to advise you about any letter purportedly from the dfe and confirm it is fake.

Meanwhile block and ignore the scamming company. Do not approach your university at this stage. You need only react to any contact your university may make towards you.

@WillArdo
We have told you what to do and shown that the company are scammers. By interacting with them, even to prove something to yourself, you are prolonging your own stress. It is up to you, but I strongly urge no contact with them.
a1writer
Mar 14, 2023

@WillArdo
But the dfe letter is definitely fake, so please stop worrying. Being British, I can spot errors in the format.
Dfe always put phone number and email on their letters. The scammers can't do this because it will show they are fake, and expose their scam.
a1writer
Mar 14, 2023

@WillArdo
I didn't read the email, but now you have pointed the spelling error out.......although I'm not sure civil servants always have perfect spelling!

Blocking them is good and now you have to forget them as they will forget you when you are no longer a target for them.

You have enough evidence to demonstrate the scam the company is operating. You have nothing to be scared of.
Chill out and watch the Budget Statement tomorrow. I'm sure that will take your mind off things!

Mar 14, 2023

@WillArdo
The dfe letter is fake, for reasons I have set out before, e.g. no phone number, no email, wrong format etc.

The article in the link below, about 207 Regent Street, London, the purported address of Ace Your Studies may interest you.
'The posh London address 4,000 firms call home: But it's not their real office, they pay £24 a month for a forwarding service - and it's a scammers paradise.'

Sorry to hear about this. For what it's worth, I'm not impressed with their website
If you read the recent advice given to students in your position, you will see that it is highly likely this essay company is a scammer and is bluffing. The best thing is to block their email and phone calls and don't engage with them. The more you engage with them the more they will pursue you.

Their threat about dfe is an empty threat to scare you into sending them more money. If you receive a letter purportedly from the dfe it will be fake. Do nothing.

@Tutor_Joan
Welcome to the forum. Some competition is long overdue. Although there are other writers who pay for advertising on this forum, they seem to keep a low profile. Presumably they have enough clients without having to constantly overpromote themselves on this forum.

I am keen that essay companies and freelance writers obey the ban on essay writing in English universities. Hopefully you will repect the ban, like any decent, honest writer would.

Quite right, nobody should presume anything about how good a writer you are when you don't know how to use British English grammar correctly. 'Right on queue.' lol

And speaking as we are of the ability to present one's case clearly in English, perhaps you can see the reason for my confusion. That is, the above statement is as clear as mud

The above statement was not even directed at you! But you decided to blunder in anyway, without looking at the context of the post. Don't try and blame me for your decision to comment on a post in a thread that you had not researched properly.

Perhaps you can let FW comment on his use of 'right on queue' instead of 'right on cue.' However he has so far failed to do so, since it highlights his incorrect use of British English grammar.
a1writer
Mar 06, 2023

@catyradidbanana
In British English 'Cue' refers to a signal or a prompt. 'Queue' refers to a line of people waiting for something.
Hope that helps you to understand the difference.
You are correct that I'm not American, but sorry to disappoint you, I am British.
One thing worse than a troll, is an ignorant one.

What on earth does this mean? Can you write in plain English. If essay companies are engaging in criminal activities then by your warped analysis, so are freelance writers.
a1writer
Mar 04, 2023

In general, all academic writers are always much more careful about the work we do for our private clients than we are about the work we do for essay companies.

Rubbish. Essay companies can and do find fault with some essays submitted by their writers. They can penalise writers by deducting money from their fee, so it is in a writer's best interests to write carefully. Repeated below-par essays can lead to a writer being banned from working for the company.

I am of course talking about honest essay writing companies who obey the law.

Likewise, you respond to any post of mine in any thread with some nasty attack and/or highly personal insults.

An observation that you are dishonest by breaking English law, is not a personal attack.

Highlighting by reference to Australian case law, that you are subject to English law although you say you aren't, is not a nasty attack.

Pointing out your fundamental grammatical error of 'right on queue' where you display a breathtaking ignorance of British English grammar, is not a personal attack.

These are all facts and it doesn't matter who I am, because these facts speak for themselves about you.

@Agirl33
At last you now have a response and the ball is rolling.

Stage 1 is normally a factual review by the reviewer at faculty level.
The next step will depend on the seriousness of your misconduct.

Academic misconduct codes vary from university to university so you need to read the rules relating to your university or other education establishment. Do not post any of the codes on this forum.

Example of Next Step
Following the completion of your statement the next procedure might be as follows:
(1) You will be invited to a meeting with the Academic Integrity Officer to help you to learn where you have made a mistake and help to avoid future mistakes.

(2) You will be invited to take an on-line Academic Integrity Course. If this is your first allegation of academic misconduct (minor, moderate or major) when you pass the course the default penalty is reduced to the next immediate lower category (eg: a moderate penalty is amended to a minor penalty).

(3) For academic misconduct categorised as very minor, the process is completed at this point and no further action is taken.

Until you reach this point nobody can tell whether there will be a need for Stage 2.
If this is your first allegation of academic misconduct that will bode well for you. Be guided by your union rep who will know how your particular misconduct is likely to be viewed.

Don't do it again, but I think you know that!

FW quote 'So that law is totally inapplicable to me, on its face'.

Website says: 'Exam Help is a global online assistance website that provides immaculate services.'
Although their phone number 0203 is an area code for London, scammers are using 0203 phone numbers to give the appearance of being located in London.
Their website is carefully worded to give the appearance they are complying with the essay mill laws in England which means they will not be writing the essay for you. The fact that they have gone to these lengths indicates they may be based in London, or more likely have gone to extreme lengths to convince you they are based there, which means they are a scam.

'Credentialed' is a North American adjective for having qualifications or documentation indicating one's suitability for something. The British spelling is 'credentialled'. This is the second tme you have used the word, so not a spelling error. A perfect example of an American pretending to be British.

It is disingenuous to say that I couldn't recommend an essay company except one that had negative reviews. I suggested one and you said you would look into it but gave no feedback. Then you suggested another and I said you should look into it, and I thought they were better than another company you suggested, whom I expressed doubts about. So actually half the companies were selected by you not me. You quickly dismissed UKEssays, but if you check their website they actually comply with English law pertaining to essay mills. Then out of the blue you say you would prefer to work with one writer, cue FW!

We all know how easy it is to manipulate reviews and testimonials don't we. You never had any intention of appointing any essay company or anybody in fact. It was all a set up designed to give FW a fake positive review.

A genuine, honest British student would be alarmed when told about the essay mill law. Such a student would want to work with a writer who obeys the law. Yet you don't care, just like FW.

At the end of the day, a genuine British student would not be happy engaging a writer who doesn't know his 'queue' from his 'cue,' and if he did, then more fool him.

General Talk / Essay Writing Mills Illegal? [18]

@FreelanceWriter

Extract from website of University of Liverpool.

What does the ban mean for students?

Following the latest legislation, Essay Mills are now illegal and you should not engage with or respond to their advertising.

In line with our Academic Integrity policy, students should not use any material provided as a result of an Essay Mills service in completing all or part of the assignment. Please be aware that while it is not a criminal offense to make use of a contract cheating service, this is deemed as 'severe academic misconduct' and could lead to disciplinary action by the University.

What should I do if targeted by Essay Mills?

Essay Mills will often disguise themselves as 'proofreading', 'tutorial' and 'academic support' services. They may target you via email, text, pop-up and social media advertising.

If you receive this type of marketing you should:

Delete it immediately
Do not use click though links
Do not offer any personal information or contact details

If you need any academic or assessment support, please also remember that you can contact your School Office. You can find a range of online resources in the Know How area on Canvas and KnowHow also offer in person workshops to support the development of academic skills. As a starters, all students should complete this KnowHow tutorial to find out more about what academic integrity is and why it is so important. The Liaison Librarian for your subject can offer specialist subject support when researching for your assignments. You can book an online appointment with a Liaison Librarian online.

FW 'The truth is that the law about which you're both going on and on about changes absolutely nothing for any students -- even UK students -- at all.' Totally false again. It changes everything because the advertising and operation of essay mills (which accurately describes you), are now illegal in England. As a result of this law which criminalises the likes of you, information will become available as a result of enforcement of the criminal law, which can be passed to universities. This will help universities identify students who have cheated by using your services, for example. It's not scaremongering on my part.

You know absolutely nothing about British law. There are statutory and common law freedom of information requests that universities or anyone can make to obtain information. There is increasing collaboration and co-operation between public bodies within England to stamp out such cheating.

You are openly and brazenly breaching the Skills and Post-16 Education Act 2022, which is a crime under English law.

The penny has just dropped. I had wondered about you but held back until now.

You do write in a similar fashion to FW, one might even say in an identical way.
Just when his reputation was as low as it could be (remember his use of 'queue' instead of 'cue') you appear.
Your PM to me asking if I would write your projects as I was 'credentialised' set me thinking. This is not a term a British person normally uses. I think you were hoping for me to jump at the opportunity when you and your alter ego FW could tell everyone that I was an active writer. The trouble is when I said that I presumed you had written the essays, you never replied. Had you written them and had you not been able to get anyone else, I was going to offer to proofread them. But you never replied because you were just trying to flush me out as an active writer and you failed.

If you really think I believe that a British student made a phone call to an American law school's registrar's office, you must think I was born yesterday. Documents can be forged. This is actually hilarious and the fact that you are bragging about his credentials and not concerned that he is breaking English law, says a great deal. A genuine British student would not do this nor would a genuine British student admit that the essay had been written for him, after all the recent publicity about essay mills being banned in England. This is another publicity stunt and anyone wih half a brain cell can see it for what it is.
