I thought English is the official language in India? If so, does it mean Indian people speak and write in English fluently (similar to native English speakers)?

You are right; I was confused because a couple of Indian people I know don't speak English well, but when they write it'd be hard to conclude they are not native English speakers.

As with everything in life, you make choices. 6 years ago your best choice was to get outside help to meet your other goals. Otherwise, you'd lose other opportunities. Today you'd make a different decision, but there are decisions you make today that will appear unreasonable to you in a couple of years.
