"Re: PV - that is terrible. Yes this is the one operated by Mark although I'm not sure whether it was him I was corresponding with. What happened exactly?

Term Paper DueI'm distraught about my wife but I'll share this. Mark received a chargeback from a dissatisfied client (no specificity) and decided to charge me for the amount he paid me PLUS what the client paid him. I was on vacation with my family at the time, and had to cut it short by 3 days because of this. I hope I meet him someday in person so we can exchange opinions and I can share my fist with his face. That's all I have to say"

I run an American small business (one of the few remaining in this industry). I have been in this business for over 19 years. When I started this small business I only had 6 writers and 2 of them are actually still with me. Until this past June I had 3 of my original writers from 1996 but one died from lung cancer. She was a wonderful woman who used to send me home made fudge every year around the holidays that I will miss this year and for years to come.

Anyway, what ProfessorVerb failed to mention is why he was charged back. The ONLY reason why I would ever not pay a writer is for BLATANT cases of plagiarism. I care about my clients and my writers and to the best of my ability always deliver what is promised to them. Which is why writers who plagiarize are deducted pay and I typically never use them again. My name is Mark M., has been 19 years ago and still is. What is your name "Professor Verb" I'm sure that you will not respond or make up a phony name. If you do reply with specifics concerning the situation in which you are referring; I'm sure I'll remember who you are and we can gladly discuss the disappointment you are to your family and why you cut your vacation short.

I looked you up and you also replied to a post "the $100,000 academic writer - can be done?"
You replied "yes"
"Yes, except for the two liquor stores I knocked over and my royalties from a cameo appearance in "Professor Verb: Doctor of Love.""

And "The closest I've come is $80,000 and that's with three writers working for me part-time. Too much work for the bucks, but that was 10 years ago. Today, the sky is the limit -- no project is too large -- no fee is too large"

Actually I feel that this business has gotten much more difficult than it was over 10 years ago with all these foreign competitors saturating the market. And I don't need someone like you making unsubstantiated claims about my business, which is run with honestly.

So you make about 80K a year and you cut your family vacation short 3 days because you claim that you did not get paid for assignments from me. Again, I am a small business owner. I don't make that much money either in this business and I also have another job on the side. My health and my family are the most important things in the world to me. The time spent with my family is absolutely priceless. If you really cut your vacation short 3 days over term papers than I have a Noun for you ProfessorVerb and that Noun is Loser.

You said that you have nothing more to say, however if you do wish to meet me, my e-mail address and all contact information has not changed once in 19 years. Please feel free to contact me and I will gladly let your fist meet my face. I actually have two fists maybe your face (if you have one) would like to meet them as well.

I do agree that it was probably about 18 years ago, because I hardly remember it. If it happened today I actually would probably handle the situation differently. However I am 100% sure that the paper was highly plagiarized. I put a great deal of value in the work that all my writers do and the case must be highly egregious in order for me even deduct a penny from a writer's pay. I am not a big fish in this business (far from it). But I do take what little money that I make and distribute over $1,500 in bonuses to my writers for the holiday season. I know that I am either the only one or one of the few who does that.

Charging a writer an amount you got paid from the client is not fair. And yes writer shouldn't get a dime if the work is even 11% plagiarized!

I have to respectfully disagree. You have to view these things on a case by case basis and be fair to both the writer and the customer. In most cases I would still pay the writer 100%. Many things will come up on plagiarism software that aren't necessarily plagiarism at all. So you need to look past just having a certain %. sometimes it's difficult to balance what is fair to the writer and to the client but one must make every attempt to do this. Neither my writers or my customers very rarely complain about how things are handled.

One more thing and then I'm done for now so that I can spend some time with my family
If a writer either egregiously plagiarizes by more than 50% OR fails to do an assignment after he confirms/commits to having it done and a valued customer who puts his faith and trust in you and your services depends on having an original paper by his or her due date. What do you do? One option, which just might be the case here is to pay another one of your trusted writers to complete the project as an urgent rush order. I know that my writers are often paid double (sometimes more) for such requests.

Do you
A: Screw the customer and not deliver as promised
B: Pay both writers for completing the project (even though one screwed you over)
C: Take a loss on the project by paying a writer double (even though you are paying the writer more than the client is paying you)

D: Make the writer who egregiously screwed you over pay the difference for what you paid the other writer.

In my opinion everything should be on a case by case basis. If a writer screws up once after being with me for many years of course I'm not going to penalize him/her much. If a writer who has not been with me long is deliberately screwing me over, I will do what's in the best interest of my customer and the writer's best interest would come last.

Either way I know that the customer in every case with me gets what he/she orders and the writer is treated fairly.
