If so, your professor knows your mangled classroom English, whether it is "UK style" or not, and, therefore, knows that your writing and speaking voices don't match. It's pretty logical, and the next logical step is...

OP: Personally, I think the reason your earning power has flagged is that students are ordering "fewer" of your essays, and, by the extension of that impeccable logic, you probably shouldn't be writing them essays in English. In other words, your reputation is preceding you.

I think that what you meant to say is, "Actually, it is caused by a saturation of writers. The writing industry is too open; every student with a laptop on our campus is supposed writer. The number of writers is growing at a dangerous pace."

Subject-verb agreement is a pretty basic lesson in English, but it's also very fundamental.

I have a few questions for you now:

1. What makes you think you can write people academic essays when you can't string together a couple of sentences in simple English on a message board?

2. To which "number" are you specifically referring in the above (edited) quotation?

In your case, the reason was that you were making excuses for your inability to communicate in effective enough written English to be a success in the essay writing industry. FreelanceWriter appears to have stacked the deck in this thread. Major's point seems to be not that the clients he utilized to do this aren't genuine, but that FW's methods are transparently and biasedly mercenary.

Don't believe the hype. These sham "reference only" caveats are just a smokescreen to keep essay companies out of legal trouble.

Only a complete fool would pay a premium for a custom essay they're not even going to (wink-wink) use. There are plenty of pre-written essays out there, usually available for about half the price, that can be used and cited as "reference only," if one really wants to go about the chore of reading, assimilating, and vomiting out someone else's info (which recipe you can just as well use to write your own term paper from scratch).

I have gotten a number of rewrite requests to "dumb down" the vocab in my essays for ESL clients; however, none of these requests have been about grammar. This experience suggests that there may be a significant niche for writers who can pretend to not write well in English, but who can still keep within the basic rules. Of course, those who haven't mastered the basic rules will still be left on the margins, and that's as it should be. Hiring someone with subpar English skills on purpose to manufacture faulty essays seems foolhardy. Judging by munywab's language used in these posts, it may also be indicative of the lazy nepotism that ruins so many small businesses.

Of course, that's assuming that s/he actually has a company, which seems, in the absence of a company's identifiers being given, a little bit of a leap.

And don't forget the most important point to be garnered from your report: you can get by in this industry, and still be a horrible writer (although you may have to resort to shameless hawking on message boards).

I like the idea of those horrible sweatshop-style essay mills like essaywriters.net[DND*] and academia-research.com, falling like houses of cards.

In reality, though, they will probably just spring up somewhere else, like fungi.

This is a crazy industry. I once had a client who reposted several of the papers I wrote for him. He had the nerve to sign his name to them and everything. I later found out it was a fake name. A few of the places where he was trying to peddle my work were commercial; the funny thing was, he wasn't trying to sell them as used-up term-papers. He was aiming higher, trying to sell them as his own precious brain-children, through various academic publishing sites.

I got really disgusted and angry when I found the stuff. I even found his real name and sicced my lawyer on him. A lot of the postings went down pretty quickly after that, but a few stayed up. Eventually, I let it go. He was in another country; I just dropped it.

The copyright belonged to the company I did them for, of course. I am, as anyone, disturbed by seeing someone trying to be me.
