I'm sick of working for other firms and thinking of starting up a small custom essay company that is offering quality services at affordable price to students. However, I don't know how and what are involved with it. How much money you will need?

Business be easy!
See, this is the reason nine out of ten new business fail--people are stupid. That, and what WB said.

All you need is a free email account and a free Paypal account; no financial investment is required. You may post your email and qualifications on EssayChat or similar websites.
If you want to get even more serious, a basic website (About Me / Services / Faq / Contact) may cost $100-$300.
You may also want to start working with a sub-contractor to revise/edit your papers.

Money is no compensation for skill; you are a horrible writer. Scratch the website idea.
April:
I don't mean to be rude, but have you seriously been writing custom papers? Were these papers written in English? The problem here is that your forum post indicates that your english isn't very good at all. Maybe you are planning to contract other writers who can write in english. That may work you know, but only if you stick to being the middle man.
thinking of starting up a small custom essay company
GO GO GO GO....GO April and start your writing company...and when its up and running, remember to hire me as one of your writers.
April:
Yes, you see that will work, you can be the manager, handle the goings on and hire the writers!
Go April! Go April! Go April!
I've been wondering, are there any custom paper writing companies that opperate in languages other than English? Because that may work as well. For instance, there are so many countries which speak Spannish; therefore, it makes sense that these countries would need custom papers. Just wondering ...
there are so many countries which speak Spannish
this is not feasible. there're many people, who speak chinese, but i doubt that doing custom papers in chinese will bring you even $500 of monthly income
Smirk:
Spannish was an example. I am quite aware of the millions who speak Chinese and French as well. My question was whether such companies exist and if they are successful, not if any of us should start such a company.
yes, such companies exist, but none of us should start such a company.
The internet is flooded with essay services. Regardless, of your quality clients would have to wade through the established sites to find you. Beware.

Ummmm.....huh?
lol
You'd be up against great competition
yes april u can open it ur own writing company if u honest others money time and emotions if u are not opening it for fraud like others..i have ideas for u....
You need a website (should not cost more than $300 for low cost countries). After than write a good ad copy and use Google Adwords or Craiglist. The customers will follow and if the service is good, you will have lots of repeat customers.
The competition you will face will be huge. I guarantee you one thing which will cause a stampede heading towards your website. Do it for free :)

S?-t is also free. Where's the "stampede"?
not in demand though is it
I may have both the resources and time to be able to set up shop but I am not, nor ever would be a writer.
I am now a relatively experienced customer to the industry and if I was to set up shop with dedicated writers on board I would insist that a customer focused culture existed. I know and understand why and how writers need protecting but processes need to better managed in this industry. A concerted effort would need to be made to get the writer and paying client on the same side.
send me your CV and fields you can write on, very soon I will bring you lots of jobs. If I was a native English speaker I would do it myself. Right now I am setting up my own essay writing company.

Start off with a basic, free website while you try to build your clientele. You can safely use a yahoo or gmail account these days as a business email account. Most companies tend to use the freemail services from reputable companies while still starting out. Expect to establish your business via social media first, eventually working your way up to a paid website with advertising. It should take about 6 months to a year for you to launch your own company successfully. It is when you enter your second year, and you see the money building in your bank account, that you should start considering spending on a hosted website, advertising, and pushed social media presence. Expect to spend at least a thousand dollars a year from that point on.
Websites are a thing of the past. These days, social media is the best way to promote yourself as a start up essay company. This is something you can do alongside word of mouth promotion at your school. Work with the crowd that knows you. Convince your classmates to give you a shot rather than using an AI immediately. Do some research on why hiring a human writer will always be better than using an AI to complete the school work. If you are convincing enough, you should be able to convince at least a few students to give you a shot. That is all the start that you need. Once you have a few satisfied clients, look into self promotion via social media.
I have zero social-media presence, whether personally or professionally. That's mainly because, as a creature of habit who dislikes change unless or until it becomes inevitable and/or unavoidable, I've always been a slow adapter of new technologies, in general. So, the fact that social media is currently completely saturated with scam essay companies actually helps providers like me who still rely exclusively on our websites and on referrals from our loyal customers.
Nobody said that traditional business models or, whatever works for you is wrong. It is just that the students these days look at other venues that are more fun and interactive for all things, including hiring writers. Audience engagement is a big deal and that is normally how the scam companies get hired by the students. It is not a reliable method of vetting writers but sometimes, the students get lucky in terms of writers they hire. Old school has its benefits and always will. Sadly, the students tend to laugh at the old ways these days, but will use it when pressed for time or if they truly trust the person doing the referral. Lucky you to have an old promotional channel that still works for you.

Thanks, but I wouldn't exactly call it luck. It's simply the long-term result of having provided nothing but excellent work to so many clients for more than 20 years of doing this kind of work. I definitely don't envy any new writers trying to establish themselves now, for the first time, nor do I doubt that traditional "old-school" platforms and methods might not work as well for them. They may have no choice but to swim in the same waters as all of the scammers, much the same way that all of us legitimate writers had to a decade or two ago, online.
