A Case of Poorly Running an Unethical Business...

I have been a writer myself in one of these essaywriting websites. At first I thought that I will be able to generate additional income from my work there, but later it became clear that it was just a waste of time. This goes not only for the writers, but also for the clients who pay handsome amount of money. Having an experience of 5 years as a writer on these websites, I can clearly state that these services have no means of ensuring good quality papers.

If you had an account there (as a writer), then you can take any order of your choice, be it engineering, business, stats, chemistry, biology etc etc, irrespective of the fact that you have the required knowledge in the related subject. The matching process is totally flawed. Infact there is no matching process and you can choose whatever you want.

Apart from this, they have big margins on clients' payments, and their writers receive only a small percentage of that.

I am sure you guys are already aware of these facts, but it feels good to let it all out, especially in a place where people can relate to it.

The fact is, even if these guys are running an unethical business, they are not doing a good job running it.

On this page I have also mentioned a few points why I think many people are not satisfied by using these essay writing services:

Dude, you're just one more "writer" that needs a few more English lessons. Go away, and take your bulls-i* advertising with you.

whatever their level of training, wrtngservice brings up some good points about pay-scales and assignment matching.

and pheelyks, essayscam's resident "published poet," yet again goes out of his way to be an unhelpful dick.

what's the matter, pheelyks? trouble at home? not enough exercise? what?

I respect your opinion.

My only point is: if these people are really willing to pay to get their homework done, it is better if they have a direct contact with the writer rather than going through the website.

Otherwise the end result is: Your writer is not getting paid enough, you are not even sure if he/ she is qualified enough, and you both are not even easily accessible incase of any queries or questions

There mere purpose over here is not just to write a grammatically correct piece of advertising. It is to present the facts and express my own understanding of this business....

PS. I found a sample paper on the topic:

Management In Action - Managers and Ethical Criteria in the Decision Making Process

Why the Need for Ethical Decision Making in Freelance Writing?

Business ethics on the managerial level should not be a passing consideration or a theoretical afterthought but an ingrained dynamic present in the company culture. In addition, ethics is an important principle for all organizations and not just those of the non profit service variety. For managers, using ethical criteria to guide their decision making process can help to increase a positive work environment, positive stakeholder perceptual designations, positive public branding and ultimately save the organization money in the long run. The costs related to scandals in the long terms far outweighs and potential short term profits that would be gained from unethical business practices. For organizations, operating in a manner that compliments the image in which they want their product or service to be reflected is of the utmost importance. In addition, ethical and fair decision making on the managerial level has been proven to have a positive correlation with employee satisfaction.

More satisfied employees and contract writers (in this case freelance writers and editors) are retained longer, they work harder and are more trustworthy, which all benefits the organization. In addition, modeling good behavior sets a precedence of ethical behavior in the organization. Typically, it is the profit seeking organization who is characterized as having the most trouble with ethical decision making, however, this construct is not true as problematic business ethics can be present in any organization.

Recommendations for Ethical Decision Making

Ethical FreelancingFor managers wishing to make ethical decisions, there is a variety of methods that can be employed. In this regard, Jones and George designate four rules that can be used to help companies and their managers act in an ethical manner: utilitarian rule, moral rights rule, justice rule and practical rule). On the utilitarian level, the decision making process would include making those decisions that produce the maximum amount of good for the most people. It recognizes that most decisions cannot benefit everyone and is therefore a very practical exercise. The moral rights rule designates an ethical decision as one that protects the fundamental rights and privileges by the people in which are affected by it. The Justice rule designates an ethical decision as one that distributes benefit and harm in a fair and impartial manner. Similarly, the practical rule looks at all the three aforementioned constructs to help make the best decision for a given situation. For managers, the practical rule should be the guiding process as it necessitates an understanding of all the principles presented for ethical decision making.

Conclusions

The most well functioning organizations (essay writing services and others) internally and externally are ones that practice what they preach. Whereas scandals have faced the business and non-profit sector in recent times, other organizations like The Whole Foods Market have maintained a behavioral conduct that is consistent with their underlying core belief systems. This organization, despite having high prices, has proliferated in the competitive food market business by behaving in an ethical and socially responsible way toward everybody affected by its business. As a result, ethical behavior on the managerial level proliferates into all aspects of a business and can only positively affect the operation of a given organization. The relentless pursuit of self interest will ultimately lead an organization down a path of collective disaster. When one or more individuals in an organization behave unethically, it seldom is an isolated phenomenon and it will proliferate to problematic proportions or in a worse case scenario, become ingrained in the organizational culture.

Don't look for ethical guidelines in a business run under the cover of darkness. The companies will always border on the illegal because that is the best way for them to make money. They con the poor students and writers into believing that they are legit. The writers ought to know better since they get hired even though their English proficiency would not pass the TOEFL test.

These companies need to make money so they choose to ignore the obvious, that they are writing for a sly and almost criminal entity. These companies do not practice any sort of good business guidelines and they skip the ethical considerations altogether in an effort to take money from the client and shave money from the writer's income.

These are precisely the reasons why, even when I had a chance to become a partner in a reputable academic writing firm, I declined to jump into the cesspool. I cannot knowingly hurt a fellow writer. I will not willingly cheat a student. I have my own personal set of ethical guidelines when it comes to running my academic writing business. Also, I do enough business for myself to always be financially stable even during the dry months.

I admire your morals, which mirror my own. Sure, we're in the business to earn a living, but I cannot, in good conscious, make a living scamming others. When I take an order, I price it fairly according to the work involved and the time it will take. Then I deliver the best end project possible.

On the flip side, when someone chooses to work with a company, they are agreeing to whatever terms that company imposes on its writers. What the company does or doesn't make above what it pays writers is, frankly, not the writer's concern (even if it sucks). The writer agrees to a per page rate or accepts an assignment that has the payment clearly noted. The writer has the option to decline if he/she feels the rate is not worth the work involved. So, in that sense, low-rate writers can be considered as much the problem. As long as there are writers willing to accept work for low rates, these low-paying (and questionable) companies will thrive.

I have always believed that independent writers have more morals than the company engaged writers. That is because the company engaged writers are no different from the company that they work for. They are out to make a quick buck and will do anything to accomplish that. Independent writers have morals because they work for themselves. Their conscience dictates their values and the treatment of their clients. As such, they run a business based on ethics. As a company owner and writer myself, I have always valued the integrity that comes with this job. My writers know that the minute they produce a paper that was obviously made just to earn from the client, they will be out of a job. I do not tolerate unethical business practices. My company uses ethics to keep our writers in check. It isn't always just about the money.

The writers that still manage to work for essay writing companies have found their CPP cut by more than half these days. The companies that are still afloat have somehow managed to keep their writers paid, while still keeping the lion's share of the profits. That may not last much longer though as AI continues to become a formidable challenge for their companies. The sad part, is that they still continue to run an unethical business, even as they struggle to keep the business open. I believe that they are managing to stay open because they have stopped hiring writing writers and, they have been expiring less than stellar writer's accounts.

If that's true, I suspect it means that the quality of work from essay companies has only gotten worse across the board. Good writers probably don't continue writing for companies at half their previous pay rate, which leaves only those desperate enough to stay, because they don't write well enough to have any other options or their own private clientele built from satisfied customers.
