DUE NOW.com ...BIG scam.... Do not pay writers

I was working as a freelance writer for a company called Due Now in Alberta Canada. The company deals in term paper writing and sales. DueNow.Com #200, 8657 - 51 Ave Edmonton, Alberta Canada T6E 6A8

Research DeadlineThe correspondence is only through email , the copies of which I have available right from the day I was hires to date. The company has not paid me since November 2005. The total sum owed to me is US$ $883.10 .

The company has delayed the payment through one pretex or the other. They sent me three cheques from the Royal Bank of Canada. When the cheques were deposited with the bank in India and sent for collection , the bank returned the cheques saying the signatures do not tally. T

he company next sent me an intimation that they would transfer money through western union. When I checked at my end for the transfer , I found that they had withdrawn the transaction on the same date.

Now they have not written back to me since February 2006 and have shut down my account access to their website.duenow.com

I have all the relevant documentation in terms of emails , Copies of the bounced cheques and a copy from westernunion collection center saying transfer withdrawn. To top it all the royal bank of canada has charged me a fine of US$ 50

DUE NOW.com is a big cheat...writers beware...the address posted on their site is fake , there is no response to emails...and they just cut you off without paying...All the hard work down the drain.... I tried contacting lawyers in canada ...but they said one has to be there personally ....They sent me three cheques all of which bounced and I ended up getting charged for that....

I tried contacting lawyers in canada ,,,even had a friend check the phone book for DUENOW...Some one picked up the phone and hung up on being asked about the payment...If anyone has any contact details for this company or has manged to get paid by them do let me know..

I have not been paid by this company either recently. They started off very good, but now have not paid me for November and December and they owe me a great deal of money. They simply stopped replying to any e-mails I have sent and didn't bother to send payment.

What was the number you called them at? I live in Canada, so maybe I will have better luck, but I need a way to reach them because the phone number that I have isn't working.

How did you find out that the address they posted is a fake? My sister lives in Edmonton and I was planning on visiting her next month, so if I can track down an address, I might stop by the office to see what's happening.

That would be great if you could check...I live in India and that was a great deal of money for me .... The number was from a google search on canada phone numbers for edmonton.....I believe the numbers are different for each area... Do let me know if you get to them ...worked like crazy and dint get paid...

I can send you the emails i exchanged with lawyers in canada and the city and legal aid councils there if you give me ur email id..

Thank you for visiting the Alberta Connects web site. Following is the response to your question prepared by Justice and Attorney General [JAG]

Justice and Attorney General responds as follows:

I would like to clarify a term I used in my first response. An agent is simply someone who acts on your behalf, such as a family friend or a lawyer. I can not find such a person for you. You may be able to hire a lawyer in India who could assist you with finding someone in Edmonton to act on your behalf.

I have come up with some additional information that could be useful.

The company is run by an individual named Dwayne, who appears to be a pretty prominent businessman in Edmonton. He owes a wholesale poker store called thenuts.ca, a computer programming company called le.ca, and founded the advertising software Cubics, but appears to have sold it. He is registered with the BBB in Edmonton, although not for duenow.com, and seems to cheat people out of money on a regular basis.

Here are some links to some information on him.

hurdman.edmontonbbb.org/bindrreport.html?bindrlog=N&bid=147426&gid=&gen=&li d=1
sitepoint.com/forums/printthread.php?t=52122

I'm still planning a trip to Edmonton sometime in the near future, but I'm going to try calling, e-mailing, and even snail mail in order to get a response from this guy.

I haven't been up there yet, since it's about a 12 hour drive and I haven't had the time, but I've looked into a couple of different ways to go about it. I think what I may do is just file a case in small claims court while I'm there. If this happens, I'll be waiting about a year for my money, but I can't just let them get away with this.

I'm also considering stopping by their offices with my father because he what we call an Officer of the Peace in Canada and knows quite a bit about the laws on these sorts of things. All I know for now is that I won't give up.

Hello,

I am not a writer but I do have a major question about duenow.com. Does anyone know what happenened to their website. I have been a paid member for approximately 2 years with no problems accessing essays until about 4 months ago I am having trouble logging in. I have attempted to send them many emails to find out what the problem is with no luck. Can someone please tell me if they know what's going on with this website.

Thank You,

Laura

Hello,

I did experience a quite myself. When I received the first check I did cash it at my local store but when I went to the store the next day I didn't see the lady working there anymore so I was thinking to myself did they fire her because that was a bad check. She did give me the money for it and that's why perhaps they had let her go. I feel bad for that poor old lady because hear she is trying to work hard and now I caused the problem. I didn' realize until the second check had come and I try to get someone to cash it but they told me this was a bad check so I sent the check to DueNow and they had put the money into my paypal account, which that was good because otherwise I wouldn't get the money that I worked for.

Hi original poster,

just discovered this site, did you find a small claims court agent yet?

No, it turns out it would end up costing me more to go through the whole process than what I am owed. This guy is taking a huge risk by not paying people, however, because he has a number of different business interests in Edmonton and if any bad publicity comes as a result of this it could be damaging.

I have managed to track down some additional contact information on him and the email address that he used is ceo@ and other information can be found here: whois.domaintools/le.ca and here: alexa.com/data/details/main/duenow

I really do not know what to do anymore because I can't get a response from him or anyone else at all. It makes me sick how people will take advantage of others, but I guess it just shows the type of person he is.

There is a phone number on the whois result for the domain (the address matches the one on duenow.com): +1.7804711120

I don't know if that works or not (sorry if someone has posted this already)

The guy also seems to own upstacks ('Stacups Inc') and the whois info for that has the same name and address, different number though:

upstacks
+1.8003810051
Fax: 017804720460
#200 8657 51 AVENUE
Edmonton, AB T6E6A8
CA

Apparently the email contact given also owns 66 other domains (I searched on domaintools, which gives you a list of all domains matching the contact) although this could be a third party service - the 1.800 number matches 8 other domains and the 1.780 matches 11 domains - you have to pay to see which though, and it's $60 - $100 a throw.

I don't know if that address is a site with a lot of businesses but it seems a bit of a coincidence that there is a 'Dwayne' on the net offering ad services (i.e. 'Adknowledge') : [crunchbase/person/dwayne albeit from another address, and there's many complaints about an ad service called 'Adhearus' which was run from that address : post.complaints/post.php?followup=2&original_id=127800. This guy seems to be involved in loads of things, all over the place!

I was SO surprised to find this forum! We went through a similar situation with these jerks and finally just gave up and ate up the loss. We are in the US so we aren't really able to file any sort of lawsuit without going through a huge and costly process.

We weren't writers, we were affiliates of them. That is, we put links to their web sites on our web sites in exchange for a commission on each essay that was sold. At first we received our checks on a timely basis, and then all of a sudden we just stopped receiving payments, even though our account balance was continuing to climb from legit referrals.

We tried calling them, emailing them, sending snail mail, we even contacted CIRA the company who oversees .CA domain names and they gave us the cold shoulder. The Canadian BBB wanted nothing to do with us either. I don't know who these people paid off up there, but it appears no one cares about helping the victims of their fraud.

Ahhh, you couldn't be more wrong. I am as American as Apple Pie. Grew up in the North and now live in TX. Got a problem with honesty? Maybe you should try a little less conspiracy theory and live in the real world. Bringing down essay companies can't be you're only job. I saw all your wacko posts and felt compelled to bring you down a few notches.

Many have tried; all have failed. BRING IT!

Do you have a substantive issue about which to debate, or are you simply a flaming ass?

Just passing thru, reading and replying. I am exercising my freedom of speech, same as you. I can see something flaming and it ain't me, but I bet your keyboard is spitting as you type hate.

You're just another dooooooshbag who can't handle facts and makes bulls-i* accusations that it can't substantiate.

Again, would you like to debate me on a substantive issue, or are you just another in a long line of clueless blowhards?

What's your vested interest in bringing down these websites, even though after two years you haven't done anything? What is your agenda? If you are looking for a worthy cause there are a lot of starving children around the world.

Use the search box and find out.

even though after two years

I see that remedial math isn't an important subject to you, either.

you haven't done anything

Nice try. Those with knowledge of the industry are well aware of the things that I have directly and indirectly accomplished to protect consumers. You are a meaningless peon who is completely unworthy of elaboration.

So ... how did you get together with Petey? One of your `I don't have a mean bone in my body and only want to help you' emails? It was right after you slammed his sites on another forum, wasn't it?

Nope not me. I am not an innocent student and I have no desire to help you. You need some meds for schizophrenia with your grandiose and delusional thinking perhaps? Nothing to do but attack people. You spend your time filming, following and attacking people.

Maybe I can be your ghost writer and help you capture your memoirs?

While I've all but given up on ever getting my money from this clown, I thought I'd provide a little update to prevent others from working with him.

He now uses the address 2885 Sanford Ave SW #19781 Grandville, MI 49418, which I'm pretty sure is just a mailbox that he is renting, since it is located outside of a Church and is very similar to 2885 Sanford Ave SW #102

Grandville, MI 49418, which is the mailing address of mailboxforwarding.com. He's just trying to distance himself from his Edmonton address, no doubt because he has continued scamming people over the years.

The phone number he is using, 760-444-1120, is located in the San Diego area, but I would guess that he still lives in Edmonton and is using a call forwarding service through San Diego. Just a hunch.

When the cheques were deposited with the bank in India

You should never have accepted a check payment. That is one of the easiest ways to con a writer. Give him a check that he cannot verify in his home country then let it bounce. What are you going to do? Sue for the unfunded or problematic check? They know you cannot do that. It would cost more for you to file a suit than what they owe you. Always use digital banking and money transfer. Never accept any form of checks.

As I tried to access this site to make sure that I would make an updated and relevant comment on the matter, I discovered that the url may still be in existence but the server the files are based in has been taken offline. Therefore, the company might have actually been made to pay their dues by losing their ability to conduct academic writing business online. With all the negative publicity the company garnered from this post alone it would have been impossible for them to defend the quality of their work and the way they treat their writers. I have no doubt that the company caused their own demise.
The opinions are that of the author's alone based on an individual capacity. Opinions are provided "as is" and are not error-free.
