I've changed my writing career recently; here is an excellent example application letter that some aspiring example academic research writers may find useful. Good luck! :)

-----------------------

As my attached resume illuminates, I'm a highly-skilled communications and marketing professional with 10+ years of experience creating and executing effective communications and marketing plans that have delivered impressive bottom-line building results. My valuable and extensive marketing and communications experience--coupled with my extraordinary passion for writing--make me a truly exceptional candidate for this position.

Writing Job ApplicationI have written countless pages of quality material since high school. In addition, my academic qualifications are exemplary. I have recently obtained my MBA degree from a prestigious Harvard university and I was fast tracked at my undergrad college. I not only have extensive corporate and academic experience, I am truly interested in writing about different topics and enjoy producing quality written work.

Highlights of key accomplishments during my past 15 years of professional experience include:

- Creating and implementing a marketing plan that raised $5M in capital for an IPO/stock market launch while playing an integral role in all IPO communications and public/media relations efforts to attract, retain and grow investors;

- Directing, designing and writing thousands of marketing collaterals and promotional materials that have resulted in strengthened corporate branding, improved market positioning, increased top-of-mind awareness, and exponential revenue growth;

- Driving high levels of response to marketing messages with target audiences via online/offline marketing channels using clear, compelling, persuasive communications;

- Building exceptional, mutually-beneficial relationships with key stakeholders that have resulted in increased brand loyalty, dramatic growth in subscriptions/sales/investments, and millions of dollars in earned media;

and,

- Leading and developing high-performing teams that make valuable contributions to achievement of goals and mission fulfillment.

Other accomplishments that are pertinent:

- I am the co-author of a book about the stock market that was published by McGraw-Hill;

- I recently obtained my MBA degree from MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology and I will attach my transcripts for
your review;

- Through my contacts with my alma mater, I have access to University library databases;

- I am also capable of adding graphics and doing design work for projects, particularly in the case of marketing
plans;

- I am very competent with Word and PowerPoint, and I have the ability to use many different project management platforms, such as Google, Wiggio, Zoho, Bootcamp, Asana, or whatever platform a customer may wish to utilize;

- I have recently worked on MyCourses and other such college blackboard systems and understand their advantages/disadvantages and how to utilize them;

- I am interested and capable of writing for the following: business courses, strategy, communications, marketing, new media, sociology, English, law, criminal justice, international studies, womens' studies, history, and many other researchable projects;

- I have been a guest speaker at my alma mater this past year and assistant taught a course - therefore, I understand students, their assignments, and challenges;

- I have extensive experience in academic research, and I am knowledgeable on how and where to access databases for in
depth searches; and,

- I understand what is considered a 'quality' source, and am able to produce results quickly and efficiently.

On the more personal side, I currently work in corporate and am transitioning the position that I hold to a consultancy agreement that will allow me to work satellite and will also clear up hours for free time. I intend on either writing for a service such as yours, or gaining a few more clients that need a communications consultant/writer/editor.

I greatly look forward to the opportunity to discuss this opportunity and my candidacy. I can be reached at xxx.yyy.xxx or writer-email@email-provider.co. Thank you so much in advance for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Just want to make sure that this isn't confused as having anything to do with me.

No worry. Your resume can be done in couple lines. Above resume dwarf your writer achievement.

The first post is ridiculous SPAM in disguise. It is also jam-packed with lies. For example:
"I have recently obtained my MBA degree from a prestigious Harvard university"
vs.
"I recently obtained my MBA degree from MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology"

The second post is so painfully unnecessary and self-serving that I cringed in a form of empathizing embarrassment while reading it. It's a perfect example of why signatures should be eliminated.

The third post is mildly entertaining.

The first post is ridiculous SPAM in disguise.

Possibly, but for privacy reasons I doubt the poster would include the real names (these are likely fake).

AlinaAustin, you're a brand new member who signed up just to type that glowing praise and you have absolutely no connection to "Writer Career ," who also just signed up 4 days ago. Gotcha.

Well, that is certainly an impressive resume. So why did you post it here? Such as skilled and successful person as yourself would not need to post his resume here in the hopes of garnering clients when you have such an impressive background. So, what gives? I find it hard to believe that you posted this information here just because you wanted to be nice and offer an example of an "excellent" job application letter. By the way, you shouldn't be tooting your own horn here. What may seem "excellent" to you may only be "acceptable" to others. Show some humility, if you have any. I think, you aren't really changing careers. I am convinced that you are trying to fish for clients which is why you posted your "Resume" here. This is not an example. This is you trying to get around the forum rules about blatant advertising and self promotion. That's why I am wondering why your post was allowed to stay here all these years. I bet it did not do you any good though. The students are wise to these self aggrandizing posts.

The above letter seems to be more of a velied advertisement for a writer's service instead of someone simply showing off a sample. His language is horrible. The content was obviously written by an ESL writer who is not based in the UK or the US. The wording tells me the person is from somewhere in a third world country. I won't be specific as to which country I suspect the writer is from in order to not cause a flame war on this forum. I am still convinced though that this writer is not worthy of being hired for any job.

His letter is too long to be a cover letter, which is what he should have written. Instead, he turned it into a biography of sorts for himself. Obviously, he doesn't know that a cover letter is only written to highlight skills and achievements. It doesn't summarize your resume into a long page of typing paper. If I were the HR person reviewing his paper, I know exactly which pile I would place this letter in.

recently obtained my MBA degree from a prestigious Harvard university

As opposed to the other Harvard University?

MBA degree? As opposed to an MBA certificate? I'm dying laughing. It would take all day and night to list everything wrong in the post, but it's clearly intended to drum up business, but good grief, you could at least make it literate!

Advertising is advertising, no matter how someone tries to cover it up. Sadly, the OP didn't do a very good job at it. For some reason, the people who run this forum seem to have decided to let his advertising stay this long. I thought advertising was not allowed at this forum but... oh well... It's their forum, their rules. I just hope that the students were not fooled into hiring this writer. I bet anyone who did was sorry for doing it. For all we know, someone already complained about this "writer" at the forum. We just did not notice that it was this fool of a writer that did the hack job for the student.

Advertising is advertising, no matter how someone tries to cover it up.

Honest advertising and guerrilla advertising are totally different things, mainly because the latter is fundamentally deceptive and dishonest while the former involves nothing to "cover up."

I agree that the original post was meant to spam the forum, advertise the non-existent writing skills of the OP, and try to gain attention based on made up information. That is not an example of an excellent job application letter. That is an example of the worst job application letter. Believe me, that letter will not get the applicant past the screening round. He won't even manage to get clients as a freelance writer, promoting himself via social media. That is not a useful fake application letter at all.
The opinions are that of the author's alone based on an individual capacity. Opinions are provided "as is" and are not error-free.

Prospective clients shouldn't really have much of a problem identifying writers who write well just from their posting history here.
