The Paper Experts or Essay Experts, do they pay?

This is a question for freelance writers...Does this company pay? I am unsure about their intentions and I seem to be getting the run around from their office staff. They owe me more than $500 and I would like some reassurance.

No experience with them myself, but "the run around" is never a good sign. I'd certainly refuse to complete any more work for them until they pay.

I have received a paycheck from them, though it was sent from Canada to L.A. to my home and was therefore rather late.

You're absolutely right here. See I am not always out to disagree or disqualify your posts notwithstanding your open opposition for me.

I wanted to follow up with some new information. PE/EE did send paychecks, but they were always nearly 6 weeks after the work had been completed, and there started to be all sorts of mistaken deductions. It also seems that they find an excuse to lock you out of the system when you've earned too much money, or have too many invoice disputes. Because they mistakenly sent me clients' payment forms, I discovered they charge the students four or five times what they pay us--which is really demoralizing given how low the page rate is. Anyhow, I'm done with the whole racket; they're crooks and liars who exploit the desperately impoverished in order to make crooks and liars of students.

This is a question you should be asking your employer prior to signing the contract or a handshake deal to work for them. Stop asking us if the company pays. That is your responsibility to find out. If you pass through a proper employment interview, even if by phone, the question of the pay schedule will come up. Researching the company online will always clue you in on whether or not the company pays on time, if at all. If you are asking us this question, then that means you have your doubts about working for them. Always follow your gut feeling, it will never steer you wrong.

The run-around should have answered the OP's question immediately. Well, there are 2 possible responses. The first is they pay late. The second, is they do not pay. Both are possible scenarios depending upon the mood of the Billing and Accounts department. The run around could refer to the first indicated scenario. There have been companies known to be up to 3 months behind in paying their writers. That is the run-around scenario and is the most common used. It looks like these 2 companies certainly prefer the uber delayed payment method. These are not companies I would want to work for.
