Hi - well, I've used Scriptlance to source programmers and in my experience, the feedback has meant a lot. I've picked some programmers in the past with no feedback because they seemed to know what they were talking about and I've found myself waiting for several days, to find they don't deliver or they deliver something I could have done myself in 5 minutes. But where the feedback is good and there's a lot of it, and they've gone to the trouble of getting themselves verified, I've had no trouble. Be wary of people with little feedback, even if it's good, because I think it's like ebay - people persuade each other to leave good feedback even if the project isn't completed and they're wary of leaving negatives in case they get negatives back.

When I was working on a social networking site, I found some really good programmers on there and built up some good working relationships with them.

Thanks for that. However, I wouldn't join such sites. I think it would be good working on my own. Having created many sites for most freelance companies (customers side and writers side), I want to begin selling their clones to all freelance writers so that they begin working on their own, taking projects directly from the customers and employing those who cannot afford the clones.

Don't you think this is the only way to avoid scams in the writing industry?

elancer.com

By the way, it's NOT ElancER, it is ElanCE. It will be worth it if you just google "elance.com scam".

I know for a fact that coders listed at both sides should not immediately be trusted. Just like all other scams, the platforms manage to have a few cracks that the scammers and criminals manage to use to their advantage. There are still untrustworthy coders available there. I have seen it happen before. I had a client come to me looking for someone on my staff to write code for him because the writer he hired off elance for thousands of pounds submitted gibberish that he could not use. The client said it was a very expensive lesson to learn and the client was appreciative of my writing services being able to save his grade from failing by submitting the work just in time for his deadline.

There have been several cases filed against this company in Latvia. Their complaints Board focused on deposit retrieval after the company failed to assist in the completion of the coding project deals clients entered into. Their modus was always the same. An escrow amount in paid upon order filing and the full amount paid upfront as soon as a writer is assigned. The writer then proceeds to not complete the work, causing a refund to be filed. The upfront payment is returned but not the escrow amount. Thatis where the online complaints board comes in to resolve the grievance. Although the complaints filed date back a decade, it is important to take this past cases as a present cautionary tale.
