Typical pay rates to writers for 1000 words?

I am looking into doing freelance writing for university students. I am based in the United Kingdom.

What are typical rates of pay to writers for every 1000 words?

How do writers write according to their pay? Do they say, ah well this is x hours of minimum wage or whatever, so the time limit to write this is y hours?

Thanks.

It depends on several factors including:

Writer Ratea)Your greed level.
b) Your mood.
c) Your conscience.
d) The number of your dependents.
e) The haggling prowess of the student.
f) Your gender
g) Your philosophical outlook
h) Your education level
i) Your word usage
j) Your deadline
k) Your research sources
l) Your familiarity with the topic
m) Your other professional commitments
n) etc

Realistically, if you don't know what you're worth as a professional, i am afraid you shouldn't be offering your services in the first place.

smart ass.

realistically if you're too stupid to read the question, maybe you should complain to your inbred mother.

I didn't ask how much I was worth as a professional. I asked typical rates of pay, meaning an industry standard if there was one.

The number of your dependants

Interesting list. Is spelling ability a factor at all?

What are typical rates of pay to writers for every 1000 words?

There's a difference in pay between freelance writiters working on their own vs. writers who work for companies.

Absolutely, I already have a different job working for an agency in a different line of work, so I do know if you don't find your own work, a cut is taken.

I just want to get some ballpark figures on pay. Whether that's freelance or if by working for companies.

Probably $0.04-$0.06 per word (companies), $0.06-$0.10 per word (freelancing). UK could be 10% more.

Thank you for an honest reply. I get the feeling the first poster to reply is just a jack, looked up his threads and all he does is just whinge and troll.

As a rule, I like that site. But the advice on prices is pretty bad.

The suggested prices and earnings sound too low.

Is this the standard price? So if dissertation 14,000 words, the price should be around $500-600?

As for private writers, I don't think anyone who's qualified is going to touch a dissertation of that length for less than $1,000, and probably more like $1,300 to $1,500. In fact, I'd say that anyone doing it for significantly less would have to be ESL, a hack, or both.

Decent companies will charge at least that much. Again, some firms will do it for less, but they'll be full of ESLs and/or hacks.

It will be okay if you are getting more than $20 Per page. Haven't it?

What I ordinarily do for direct hire clients is I take whatever cost per page the company would have charged them then I double that amount before adding the cost for electricity, the internet service, and manpower to it. That usually totals around $20-50 per page. You could look up the current dollar to pound conversion rate and base your costing on that amount. Just to get you started. It is usually difficult to price your per page orders at the start so you just need to get a foundation price and then adjust the costing upward as you develop your client list. Get to know their regular requirements, and come to understand how much of your energy and utilities are used. Factor everything into the costing over time and eventually, you will learn how to price these pages off the cuff. I suggest keeping your prices low at the start, increasing it over time with repeat clients. New clients should be enticed to hire you based on competitive rates at the start. Don't forget though, your prices need to be commensurate to the quality of your work. Make sure you produce high quality work so that you can justify your cost increases over time.

1000 words is approximately 4 pages of work. I normally charged $75.00 per page right off the bat. That was inclusive of all the work related expenses and personal time costing. If the client made any changes to the instructions in the middle of the work schedule, I charged extra for that as well. So by the end of the work schedule, the paper was hovering around $100.00 per page already.

If the work required me to do recorded interviews, power point presentations, or some sort of fieldwork, I automatically charged for transportation, ticket costs, and other incidental expenses that also covered meals and snacks. The cost for that automatically somewhere around $200.00 with additional costs coming in for any required purchases as part of the "research" phase of the paper. I once charged a student upwards of $500.00 when I was asked to watch a formal concert that required a formal dress code for the audience. Of course I charged for the purchase of a new but simple outfit to suit the event.

Having said all of these things, it is impossible to have a preset rate for 1000 words. There are a host of other considerations to factor in when deciding on what to charge per page.

The rate would depend on the work involved, but I would charge around $100 for 1000 words. I don't generally factor deadlines in UNLESS the customer needs the order quickly (24-48 hours). That rate could change depending on the subject area and other factors, but assuming it's a straightforward project that rate is close. Also, if the order is only 1000 words of writing but requires countless hours to research, the rate goes up. I've had clients say "but it's only 2 pages of writing" not realizing that I will have to spend several days researching a complex project, not to mention projects that require additional work outside of writing (i.e. Excel calculations, etc.).

A writer can actually charge skies the limit, or go basement price, regardless of the word count. It all depends upon the negotiation between the client and the writer. Normally, a student will try to haggle the price over a series of emails or several chats. The prices has to be based on the ability of the student to pay in full upfront and, the financial needs of the writer. The perfect price for 1000 words is usually somewhere in between these 2 pricing considerations. Normally, my clients sign up for the deal happily when I meet them halfway, without sacrificing too much of my personal income needs. There is always going to be another client who will make up the difference.

I think that @Freelancewritter would be the best person to give us an update on the amount that writers charge these days. Perhaps he would know the competitive rate that would possibly make the student opt for a human writer instead of an AI that comes for free or at a discounted subscription rate. It is still best to hire human writers but, it is important that they price themselves honestly because it is so easy to price yourself out of the market these days.
The opinions are that of the author's alone based on an individual capacity. Opinions are provided "as is" and are not error-free.

While I appreciate the interest, I don't discuss my prices publicly.
