The following are some questions to current (or former) sample academic researchers or writers. Why are you in this specific writing business field?

A) I tried other writing fields but I failed.

Interesting Academic WritersB) I find example example academic research more interesting/less demanding than other fields.

C) My colleague has persuaded me that working in the academic research field may be more interesting.

D) I've always got straight A-s in college, so writing example research papers seemed like mixing business with pleasure.

E) I hope academic paper orders will supplement my income.

F) I've always loved working with students and realizing my tutoring help makes will prepare them to their professional lives.

G) It's just business as usual - for me it's no different than proofreading or editing manuscripts.

H) Something else not covered above?

:)

I think an academic essay writer has 1) Natural talent/passion for writing, 2) tendency to work individually, 3) is a bit less social, 4) well-versed in new communication technologies, 5) believes in honest living.

1. I am a freelancer; I get to be my own boss and work from home. I take exactly as much work as I want. No office environment.

2. If I put in the work to find and retain private clients, I can earn a very good hourly rate. During the slow season, or if I'm having trouble finding my own clients, there is a steady supply of company work. As they say, "the work is there if you want it." Academic writing generally pays better and jobs are easier to find, as compared to grinding it out on oDesk or Elance.

3. The work is interesting and educational, for the most part.

I sincerely hope that every single employer who ever considers hiring you finds out what you've willingly participated in and slams the door in your face. Have a sense of goddamn ethics and STOP MAKING IT EASIER FOR PEOPLE TO CHEAT AND EARN CREDIT FOR THINGS THEY DID NOT DO.

Don't listen to blahblahblah... sounds like an angry troll.

I've been thinking about setting up a company too and even have a web developer who could make the website (but you don't need one). You can easily hire talent through Upwork or even by posting community flyers around universities. You can also post on Indeed. It's very easy. Start first with 2 or 3 writers and a medium workload. Take, perhaps, about 30% of the cut. If you're charging $20 a page, pay the writer $12. Focus on something - quality or quantity? If quantity, pay low and charge low. If quality, pay high and charge high. $12 / page for non-urgent orders would be considered relatively high.

Been in the biz for about 2 years now and know my way around... (well, in freelance private writing for a year, with companies for under a year).

I became interested in it because I loved the whole research/writing process at university. I am trying to make it a sustainable form of income, hopefully I can get there soon.

You easily make it sustainable. I did. I'm going to quit one place because I don't quite like their policies.

It was a natural fit because practically everybody I ever met is intimidated by the prospect of having to do any kind of substantial writing and it's something that comes naturally and easily to me.

I've been writing in the academic field for 17 years. I love it! There's pros and cons, but the pros outweigh the bad. One thing I've learned is when you find good clients and/or a good company to work with, give them your best and be on time. That's how I've maintained my freelance jobs. :)

I've always loved reading on various topics. I found that I had a natural knack for retaining information regarding academic topics that I hoped to discuss with other people. None of my friends were interested in the topics I wanted to discuss though so eventually, I found myself blogging just so I could get my opinions and researched information out of my head. From that point, I began interacting with other people through the comments section on my blog. From there, it took very little to convince me to give academic writing a try. I tried it a few times and found myself falling more and more in love with the intricacies of academic writing. I came to realize that I was learning more than I ever did while in school. I enjoyed what I was doing, specially since I was expanding my own knowledge in the process. Lately, I have found that my passion for academic writing has not waned. It has only gotten stronger because I continuously learn, without ever having to set foot in school to gain the knowledge that I find interesting to learn about.

That's how I feel, too. I also find that in everyday conversations, I have unique insight sometimes because of all I've learned through the research. So, not only are we making a living, but we're helping others and expanding our minds. A win-win for all! ;)

I was in college, had a roommate who was horrible at writing anything not related to his actual major (physics). He saw I was acing my research papers within my own major, he asked me for help, I asked him how much it was worth to him, and the rest, is history. I never worked in a regular company. Even as a college student, I worked by filling the writing needs of my classmates. It was how I paid off my student loan and, it is why I am able to live the life I lead today. For me, it was just something that naturally happened. I never even thought of working at a regular job after graduation because I had lower class students waiting for me to complete their papers for them. Everything just grew from there. You might say the occupation chose me, not the other way around. Hahaha !

I was an English major in college. It was a bit difficult for me to find employment after I graduated because I had a "jack of all trades" degree, which meant I had a useless degree since it led only to feeder masters courses, but not necessarily actual jobs. I was looking for any job that would have me at that point. Online job hunting was new at the time and the digital academic writing field was relatively new. I came across a writing website one day. decided to try my luck and submit my resume, I received a testing link via email, did the test, and got the job. That was my job for the next 20 years of my life, prior to my striking out on my own.
