I submitted my project last Thursday. I did this project all on my own with no help nor assistance. The turnitin Dropbox closed on Friday. On Sunday I was browsing through YouTube and came across this site I thought was legit. And because my supervisor didn't respond to me during my thesis I asked them a few questions about my thesis and they asked to see my work promising an honest review, one mistake I didn't do is to remove my school name and my name. They forced me to pay £150 as consultancy fee. Even after I told them I don't really need it, not only that they are threaten to tell my school they did the work for me which they didn't. I have told them the assignment has been submitted and they don't believe me. Even asking me to pay £1475. I need advice please. They are even threaten to edit my work and sell it to someone else.

Project AdvisorsIgnore them and block every means by which they contact you. In the US, report the extortion to the FBI through: ic3.gov/Home/ComplaintChoice and in the UK, report it to actionfraud.police.uk/how-to-report-fraud . Don't even consider paying them another penny or contacting your school pre-emptively.

Even if they follow through on their threats, and even if they do manage to contact someone who cares, you have the entire email chain to document your situation, as well as the date of the transaction. Since your wrote it yourself, if you're actually questioned, you should be able to show your draft files, your research, your source material, and your notes.

Don't make any changes to your saved files or re-save them, so that you can also demonstrate when those files were last altered and saved, to prove that those files all predate your consultation. There's really nothing they can do to you, based on the details that you've shared. As long as you wrote it yourself, there's no honor code violation just for consulting any third party for general advice or assistance.

Don't stress yourself out by worrying about it and don't waste your time reading their emails or responding to them.

Name the website to help future prospective victims who read this forum or who Google that website.

The UK does not have 'honor codes' so it is dangerous to rely on advice given by someone ignorant and unfamiliar with the British education system.

Academic Conduct Policy and Academic Integrity and Misconduct are common phrases used in British universities.

For the record, most universities permit proofreading but a few do not.
Some universities have their own policy on proofreading which restricts students in their choice of proofreaders.
'If you are seeking a professional proofreader for your academic work, click on the Register of Approved Proofreaders.'portal.lancaster.ac.uk/ask/study/developing-academic-skills/reading-writing/proofreading/

There is an entire section on Proofreading policy: portal.lancaster.ac.uk/ask/study/developing-academic-skills/reading-writing/proofreading/

@a1writer what if I had already submitted the work. Because the work had been submitted and turnitin drop box had closed three days prior to when I contacted this website. Pls when I asked for advice after they had convinced me to read through my work, they were not saying anything meaningful so I told them I am no longer interested. That was when the blackmail started. I didnot contact them to change anything in my work. I contacted them thinking they would be able to tell me if my work was good or not. Now they are threaten to report to my school. They offered me Zero assistance with this work. Absolutely no assistance. It all my fault, when I submitted I should have just forgot about everything. I used my hands to cause serious problem for myself. I have even told them I have submitted and they don't believe me, threaten to contact my school.

I contacted them thinking they would be able to tell me if my work was good or not.

This looks as if you wanted them to mark it for you.
It seems strange to contact the company 3 days after you had submitted the essay. Surely it would have been better to get it proofread before you submitted it.

So far as your school is concerned, in the unlikely event that the company contact them, you can show that you haven't done anything wrong by showing the timeline of events. You submitted the essay, written by you, and the company had no input whatsoever.

@OOC1997 Since you had already submitted the paper 3 days prior, there was nothing more that could be done. There was no sense in having it proofread and asking for comments after the deadline had closed. You should have just taken confidence in the paper that you wrote and waited for the outcome. Your eagerness to learn if you had written an academically acceptable paper was your downfall in this case. You fell into a trap that was set for nervous students such as yourself. While I do not think anything will come of their threat, you should still be prepared just in case. @a1writer has given you sound advice. Follow it. Remember, next time, proof reading and editing, comments, are collected before you submit the paper, not after.

In the face of this predicament, eschew direct engagement with educational authorities and legal recourse, opting for a nuanced approach. Begin by meticulously documenting all interactions with the unscrupulous entity. Exercise restraint, refraining from acquiescing to their coercive demands, as capitulation is unlikely to ensure your exoneration.

Next, consider seeking counsel from individuals well-versed in the realm of academic ethics, who can offer sage advice without directly involving academic or legal authorities. Enlist the support of mentors or academic peers, safeguarding your ethical standing while fostering a supportive network that can provide guidance and insight. You can opt for pay_after_service providers, though it is a risky afair for them in your future papers. I was once duped by a student after engaging for a while. So, it is not a good model on the side of writers as well.

Maintain transparency about your academic situation with individuals you trust, as their perspectives and counsel may shed light on alternative avenues to address this predicament without direct institutional involvement. Your resilience and discretion in navigating this situation will be pivotal in safeguarding your academic integrity.
