Student Cheating TurnitinTurnitin is a joke:

essayfraud/turnitin_john_barrie.html

Turnitin is being sued for copyright infringement:

washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/28/AR2007032802 038.html

Lawsuit PDF: dontturnitin.com/images/iParadigms_Amended_Complaint.pdf

Turnitin will soon be a thieving thing of the past. The court case is supposed to begin in September.

Smart students should refuse having their papers stored in a commercial database for free.

Then which site we can use to check plagiarism....?
pheelyks
Nov 07, 2010 | #7
You're supposedly a writer....why would you need to check for plagiarism? Shouldn't you know that you didn't plagiarize simply because you wrote it? Or do you need to make sure that your plagiarism will go undetected?

Its not only for me.. This is for general public..

You're supposedly a writer....why would you need to check for plagiarism?

I'm not asking for me ...

Its not only for me.. This is for general public..

No, it's ONLY for you, so you can keep spamming a bunch of random threads

I'm not asking for me ...

You're not asking for anyone, because you don't really care about the answer. You think that having your name appear in a bunch of threads will somehow make you look legitimate and that customers will contact you looking for writing help (and you're increasing your post count so you can PM people). This makes you look like another scammer who is here to completely rip people off--am I wrong?

Turnitin is stupid program and many universities use it. My uni also, poor me.

It shouldn't be a problem in the first place, since if you are honest, the paper should be individually written.

That having been said, I have had problems with Turn-it-in thinking ACTUAL QUOTES were plagiarism. Quotes in quotation marks. With parentheses afterwards. With author name and date. Yeah...

Hey there,

Does anybody know if turnitin can detect plagiarism by translating documents?

Thanks!

Try not to revive zombie topics. X: But translating documents isn't the best thing if you're using an automatic translator like Google Translate or Babelfish. It's better if you know both languages that you are translating.

Jan 17, 2012 | #15
Thanks for the tip!
I actually do know both languages so I am guessing it's ok. Anyway, when translating you never really translate to a text to the word.

Thanks again

the topic's still worth going necro over, though... turnitin.com can be beat with spinners, but the downside is that most spinners are primitive, and produce garbage. macros don't work. find-and-replace with the cyrillic "e" doesn't work. what else?

Why would a professional writer need to beat turnitin in the first place? I've simply never plagiarized, and I've never had a problem.

The main use that I can see is that if you have others working for you -- you may want to run their stuff through the checker just to make sure no one is cutting corners.

You seem to know a fair amount about it for someone who's never had any issues with plagiarism. How's that?

when i was high school there was no such thing as turnitin. it must have been a monster change to this industry when it was introduced.

It was great for those of us who already provided only 100% original writing because it eliminated some of the competition from those who don't. It also significantly increased the demand for custom work over previously written stock essays. When I started doing this, most assignments were still being printed out and submitted in hard copy format only.

Thanks for posting the obvious. I'm well aware of the current state of Turnitin. FYI, Turnitin was sued in US District Court. Turnitin eventually won the lawsuit because of the judge's completely unfair and biased interpretation of copyright ownership. The judge basically ruled that students have no copyright on their own work, especially since Turnitin manipulates the text; thus, students have no basis to file a claim that Turnitin is infringing their copyright by including copies (what Turnitin likes to call "digital fingerprints" in order to dance around copyright law) of students' work in the Turnitin database. Of course, few people in the mainstream media and academia questioned the judge because they are all shamelessly biased against students and term paper sites.

do you think a significant legal change in relation to model essay sites could ever occur, where the american judicial system actively would start trying to shut them down?

It already happened in 1997. Boston University sued all of the major (at that time) term paper companies. One of the charges that the DA independently brought (if I recall correctly) was racketeering. To make a long story short, BU eventually lost.

oooh......i know if the US bans term paper mills, it'd mark the end of you. That is why you are so eager to follow lawsuits involving essay mills because, well, you 'earn' your daily upkeep through essay mills racketeering.

You must be really old if by 1997, you were already a shill. Great.
It speaks volumes about your ****integrity**** if you can side with shadowy essay mills against an academic institution(BU loss of the case really inspires you)

What is it with you and age? I see that come up again and again. Pheelyks was "well into his 30s" ... gasp!

Let us say that there were a shill, and that person started shilling in 1997. Perhaps the person started at age 22, right after college. Now the individual would be -- gasp -- 38! Is that "really old"?

We're all aging, Sheba, unless you've come up with a solution. And if you have, I'd love to hear it!

As a student, I've never liked turnitin. Universities that force us to use their service is like them forcing us to buy a can of soda, even if you hate soda and prefer water or prefer not to buy anything at all.

Turnitin is a joke:

It is a joke that now has an international reputation and recognition as a valuable "international standard teaching tool". They now claim to be able to teach teachers how to become better at their jobs, and force students to actually learn how to write better. What a bag of crap ! They are making a killing in the SFH market because the teachers have totally decided to outsource their jobs of teaching. This company has done nothing but help produce more and more useless teachers over time.
