Do Paid AI Writing Apps really work?

My FB feed is overflowing with advertisements for student writing assistant AI from various companies. I am wondering if these apps are useful to students? I mean personally, I would rather hire a human writer, then AI the heck out of that, even though that method has limitations. I've already paid for the use of 2 writing apps because I am dissatisfied with their products.

The AI writing app also has additional costs. Once you pay for the basic service, the app tries to get you to subscribe to additional services. Which I hate because I paid for the app already, why do I need to pay extra? Shouldn't those come with the service? Also, why doesn't the AI app come with revision options? The work that is produced needs improvement every time, and I have to do it myself.

Am I wasting my time paying for these writing apps just so I can test it till I find the right one?

You're probably wasting your time. The same AI that writes your paper can now detect their own writing, so students are not safe if they think they can get away with robot research. In addition, all generated output / papers are now saved in databases and can easily be checked against submitted academic papers by AI anti-plagiarism tools.

Which AI writing app has the built in detection tool? I find that the students who use the AI essay to take the place of model papers do a better job of writing their papers. The AI app makes it easier for them to complete the paper since the citations and links / sources are clearly indicated and easily verified by the student. Something that is not easily done when using the human counterpart from a 3rd world writing company.
The opinions are that of the author's alone based on an individual capacity. Opinions are provided "as is" and are not error-free.

@Academiagirl. I agree with you, most applications based on AI might only give a basic outline but not follow instructions, expectations of professors, and individual writing style. It is where one can use a real human support.

I am a human academic support writer and whenever I help an individual I do not just e-mail him/her a draft but negotiate, inquire, follow the exact instructions and make sure the work is unique and written in the right tone. I also offer the revisions because writing is not a product, but a process.

A combination of both is the best option to do whenever you are not sure about AI applications, and AI can give you an idea or outline, but a human will check and revise or polish whatever you have written to make it appear as a real academic requirement. That way you are in control of what you are doing and you do learn doing it.

I am also interested in finding out which AI has the detection tool. That would be most helpful when I ask the AI to double check the paper for any plagiarized content. I still prefer to write the paper on my own and have the AI clean it up whenever possible but, AI plagiarism is a definite fear that I have. I have been using Google Gemini to develop sample papers lately as I feel confident that there is less chance of plagiarism there because it offers links to information sources. I hope I am on the right track.

I think use of gemini for your papers is still a gamble. Professors commonly want to spot topics/ideas discussed in class in your paper. That's why it is good to figure out your ideas properly and structure them accordingly. Otherwise, using AI tools should assist in the research process to gain more depth on the topic. Your paper will be flagged for AI if you solely depends on AI writing apps regardless of the links and citations.
