Any sites to find independent, casual dissertation helpers?

I have tried contacting a bunch of writing services, none offer a truly personal service. You cannot speak to helpers, you cannot ask them questions, it is just send the paper, we take the money and you get the corrected version.

I am not a native speaker, and I need someone who will explain to me some syntax, stylistic issues etc., which is more than just editing a sentence. Secondly, I cannot explain in few written words what I would like the helper to check in my dissertation, which is 80% complete btw.

So I thought okay, it will be easier if I find individuals offering proofreading and similar services. I have contacted a dozen and they are all major c*nts. Few on linkedin asked me if I have a written permission from the university for such thing. Few were on holidays (automated message) and never replied, some were busy for the next few weeks not even bothering to check if I have a deadline. Majority refused it for different reasons, from essentially accusing me of trying to cheat to not wanting to waste time on someone who is a bit more complicated.

So my question is, is it really impossible to find someone to just go through my work mostly through conversations? Someone who will tell me the things my mentor would, but reveal few "secrets" to improve my dissertation?

It is not impossible to find someone who would simply assist you in perfecting the format, content, and final presentation of your paper. You are looking for help coming from an Academic Consultant, not an Academic Writer. Sadly there are more academic writers than academic consultants to be found online.

Also known as Educational Consultants, you can actually use those 2 keywords (Academic Consultant, Educational Consultant) to get a relevant search engine return of valid services. Some are independent, others are company attached. They know how to assist students in ways that academic writers do not know or understand because their focus has always been on writing the papers themselves. The consultants are used to reviewing papers and helping students perfect the content based upon how they want to write the paper or how they have written the paper.

It's not impossible at all, as long as you're willing to pay for the time necessarily involved in a critical substantive read of 80% of a dissertation. In my experience, prospective clients who approach me with this kind of proposal usually present it as a "proofreading" project without understanding what proofreading actually means. Proofreading doesn't include any substantive analysis of the content; it only focuses on most superficial technical elements such as spelling, punctuation, tense, etc. Line editing consists of rewording and rewriting parts of some sentences to improve the writing; but it still doesn't address the substantive content or the logical organization of the material or of its arguments. What you're requesting is the most difficult and time-consuming type of review; and it takes a lot of time, mainly because it's already, essentially, a substantial amount of the work involved in heavily editing or substantively rewriting an entire dissertation, even without actually doing any of the editing or rewriting (yet). Finally, in my experience, most of the dissertation drafts provided to me for this kind of proposed review are so bad that it would (literally) take more work and time to fix them than it would take to simply start them over entirely, discarding almost everything except the topic of the dissertation; sometimes, even the topic is inappropriate (or impossible to execute satisfactorily) for a dissertation. Usually, those projects are also presented to me, initially, as "proofreading" requests.

None of the above necessarily applies to your dissertation, obviously, because I haven't seen it; I'm just sharing my experience with these types of inquiries, to answer your question about why it might be so difficult to find someone to do this for your project. Out of perhaps 50 or more such inquiries that I've received over roughly 20 years, I believe only about 2 or 3 actually required only "proofreading" or a relatively light line editing; and I recall only one such inquiry to which I responded by telling the inquirer that it needed only such a light proofreading that it would probably be a waste of money to pay me (or anybody else) to do it, because anybody who wrote that draft in the first place should be perfectly capable of proofreading it himself, after just letting it sit for a few days to be able to do a "cold" read.

Not sure if you are studying at a UK university or similar education establishment in the UK. If so I suggest it is better if you stick with reputable UK essay companies which offer proofreading and editing services too or a UK based freelance writer offering the services you want. They will be familiar with the type of dissertation you have nearly completed and be aware of the standards and requirements of UK education establishments.

If you are not studying at a UK university then I suggest you are very careful before approaching anyone who is obviously touting for work.
