your prof will send the file to turnitin once you finish the essay

Once it hits Turnitin there is a record kept and subsequent attemps will be recorded as plagiarism to your professor.

So....I don't know what to say other that make sure references cited are in bibliography and the paper is wirtten the way YOU write, not the way another wrote it.

Does turnitin recognize unpublished literature (course lectures) as plagiarized work?

Yes. Turnitin has a direct connection to all accredited universities, and lecturers, professors, and research assistants are required to submit all information to Turnitin before teaching it to students. If a question is asked during lecture that covers material not previously submitted to Turnitin, the lecturer can be shot for trying to answer.

I mean unpublished material from site like this - teach12.com can lectures from this site be recognized by turnitin or any other plagiarized detector as plagiarized work?

If it is on a website, it is published and likely to be detected by Turnitin. Your best bet is a pdf file which has not gone through an OCR software. How can you test this? Try entering a few phrases from the document in Google and see if it returns any exact result.

can turnitin be beaten, or hacked? not only does it seem antithetical to this industry, but also, it seems to violate authentic students' rights to their original work. someone should bring it down.

can turnitin be beaten

Is there a limit to how many things that you do not know about this industry? I posted the detailed information long ago.

when I don't know something, I ask a question. how can you beat a person down for asking questions? that's the behavior of a bully.

Why? In one thread, you make ignorant, false accusations. In another thread, you ask basic questions that have already been answered. You are exactly what this forum does NOT need. Stop being lazy and learn how to use the search box.

no one put you in charge of who is allowed to be on this forum, or what it needs. you think you're the boss, but no one voted for you. it's a position you've assumed, with all that process entails.

You're quite correct. However, I can certainly highlight exactly why my opinion of you makes sense.

Hey Guys,
Am a newbie here, so please be gentle!
My uni has employed this kind of software some time ago & I have submitted my essays through it.
Now, my worry is that once I go to check my marks etc, I can see my name on the page.

Just wondering - is my name visible to my tutor as well?

We are told to save and submitt our essays by using our student ID numbers.

Please help, as it will be a disaster if names can be seen by tutors - although they might employ other means if they want to establish who has written this particular essay etc. I mean, they can simpy check my ID number and log on in their uni' accounts to try to find out.

Thanks a lot

"Hey guys, its too bad I'm too lazy to do a but of reading because I just got screwed by using Viper's essay scanning software; now my paper will be stored on their servers, resold to other students, and I will quite possibly be caught for plagiarism precisely because I used this free plagiarism scanner. Derp!"

Thank you for this detailed write-up. I just wanted to buy turnitin. There isn't much here for anyone to sink their teeth into. But I hope there are plagiarism checkers that don't steal essays.

the law is not going to help. some hackers should take it down as a community service.

Turnitin has become the international standard for plagiarism checking. They operate globally across various countries and therefore, have an international database of student essays on file. Every student that submits an essay to this blasted firm willingly surrenders his rights to his own paper because the submission does not expire. They own the rights ad naseum. So, if 50 years down the line, a student manages to write a paper that contains the least bit similarity with your work, the poor student, who probably has no idea who you are, will be accused of plagiarism. This AI plagiarism checking is something I truly frown upon because it has been causing false positive plagiarism accusations among students internationally. This program makes it highly difficult to even refer to research in the paper because of the possibility of plagiarism flagging.

@Cite

By default, Turnitin allows 3 similarity reports to be produced instantly after submission. After this limit, similarity reports are provided once every 24 hours with subsequent submissions. Submissions within the last hour of the submission deadline compare other student submissions within the same assessment as well.

Turnitin single-handedly killed the value of recycled essays and is probably the main reason that I've been able to earn a decent living writing original academic papers.

Recycled essays are definitely dead. specially since the data in them have aged out as sources for updated research work. It still has another life asa model paper though. These papers are still in the database so it is worthless if plagiarized into an orginal paper. That is the main function of Turnitin and that is what keeps them in business.
