Mod, can you take this little exercise in futility directly to the off-topic thread where it belongs? That's where it is rapidly going, so... while you're at it, you might want to look a little further into Fast-Essay, that company you're taking money from to run ads on your anti-scam site, because so far, they stink to high heaven, and it looks very likely that you've once again taken money from idiot criminals. I've gotten the ball rolling, and I don't mind posting more chats with them, but you should be a little responsible, no? Consider it practice at vetting the next fools desperate enough to pay for advertising here.

If we could all get our heads out of our asses for a minute, Fast-writers is still taking up ad space, and has already been exposed in this thread for lying about their location-- as well as admitting that they run an illegal operation. Maybe they paid up front? What's going on? Once again, it's embarrassing.

You're concerned about who isn't legit, but you won't say who is?

This is the crux, because you claim to have read and understood the TOS. I understand many of your other points.

I did come here initially to defend a certain company, but the reason for my longevity here is that they turned on me, and I cried foul here. I am about as likely to a board a jet for Kiev as I ever was. Maybe some customers or writers saw what I wrote and put on the brakes. That's what this place is supposed to be for, despite the current popularity of various smarmy peddlers and loophole-seeking ambulance-chasers, who love nothing more than to expound on how punctilious they are when it comes to the TOS. Not to mention the fact that the mods take ad money from whomever, which provides a really great example, and brings this thread maybe a little more on-topic.

Any word on what Fast-Essay is still doing up there? They just lied to me about their location and tried to bully me by mentioning the police. Hello?

Speaking of sidestepping the issue, I can only assume that you're here to sell yourself. My advice is to get an ad. They sell ads, you know?

I'm so sick of repeating my boring history, so I am skipping parts. I joined the site forever ago to flame WB and get leads on companies. I also defended one of the companies I worked for against accusations that they were a scam, since I knew they weren't really scamming customers. Then, it turned out that they were scamming writers, so I posted about it here.

I leave WB alone now. Whoever they are, they were right about that company. That company is run by thieving scumbags, so one of the reasons I'm here is to shout about that. I also know who is legit, but I keep that to myself. This is a forum called "essay scam." It's not "essay w*0re," that's over in "essay chat," where they will let you sell yourself freely. If you do it here, you're going to get banned, and have to come back under a different SN. No, WB, that was not about you.

In short, I work in the industry, and I post about the good and bad companies I work for. You are a newbie who needs a better hobby. Stop stinking up this thread where I'm trying to get a fraudulent ad removed, and show me something other than twee, glib disrespect, and I'll think you're something other than another punk here for the easy meat.

which other sites do you think they are?

Sometimes an error says it all-- they are, indeed, a lot of other sites-- hundreds, maybe. See, company X owns websites A-W. When website A gets too many scathing reviews, they move to website B. It's a way the owners have of passing the buck-- flying by night and staying in the same place, creating hundreds of false leads. It's lazy and effective, until someone drops the hammer. Know what I mean?

I guess it does, if your idea of worthiness includes honesty, fair play, and the fact that I knew your capital was Mogadishu without looking it up. Have a nice day, as# hole!

Wow. How's the surfing at Homa Bay?

Btw, you are an asshole. And it was the last thing I called you before the above coup. Clean the flies off of your face and you'll see more clearly... and spell California right next time! You're about to lose your advertising.

especially when English isn't your strong suit. I know that when I'm tired, my non-native languages are the first to suffer. Of course, resting isn't everything... lessons and contact with native speakers are both vital!

If Meowcon tells you the sky is blue, you'd better check just to make sure. As far as I can tell, he's only here to put his servile history behind him and learn how to be more aggressively incompetent. It has been a real nightmare watching his progress.

No one knows why Queen is here. I personally think it's good that she is, though, because Pheelyks was a twee, lazy tard, and it's good to have a reminder that he still has that pathetic WordPress page, so I can spam it.

Babba booey. You are one jack of a customer... if I were your writer, I'd extort the **** out of you. ...thank goodness I don't take private clients unless they're cool!

Sometimes you just have to roll the dice and see-- I think a better avenue than giving up before you begin may be taking a few small orders at first-- say, under $20 worth-- and then waiting for a few payments to go through before you start taking larger, more time-consuming orders. Of course, even then, you can never be sure.

I guess you have nothing better to do than make sad attempts at snarkiness, MeowCon... times like these, it would really be better for everyone if you could just find a nice, young sheep and a private place. You don't have any experience with RWC yourself, since naturally, they frown on the hiring of sniveling incompetents. I doubt you could even pass their English grammar test.

I worked for a completely legit Chinese company for a year and a half. Sure, their grammar wasn't the best, but administration doesn't write papers, and neither do webpage makers. This company, whose initials were RWC (this was several years ago), always paid me on time, sought the facts and sided with me in disputes when appropriate, and was also very polite in its emails.

Writing Careers / ESL academic ghostwriting stories [24]

I think it's a good thing to be asking these questions, because a lot of company owners (more than writers, seemingly) get racist in this biz. They don't have any contact with good customers or writers from the countries they scorn. It's not like taking a cross-section of essay mill customers and writers in the US or UK will bring up the cream of the crop-- the same is true in any other country. The truth is, there are people who scam customers and manufacture credentials everywhere. It might be easier to do in a developing country, because there is less risk of legal action, but you can bet your sweet ass that the corrupt practices here attributed to Africans, Pakistanis, Indians, etc. are also found right in the backyards (and sometimes front yards) of their self-righteous accusers.

High season, low season, whatever. You always have some excuse.

As for PV, he can answer me himself quite well, if he so chooses-- it would certainly be more appropriate for him to do so than you, as he appears to have grown up in post-Prohibition America, where drinking is appropriately valued as one of civilization's great customs. There's little disgrace or shame about it here, traditionally, as long as things don't get out of hand.

From what I understand about where you're from, saying someone is drinking is tantamount to calling them a bad Muslim. But PV isn't a Muslim at all, and neither am I. Next time, maybe you'll stop and think before you stupidly assume everyone shares your habits and practices.

(waving left hand) Good bye!

Haha, grandma, I forgot about that. It's because of your style, FW... it's just like when grandma used to use the whole postcard.

Thanks for the memories! If PV did indeed call you a better writer than himself, I am assuming that it was either out of a sense of polite modesty, or booze.

I believe a contrary opinion is in order here.

In my book, PV is okay; he contributes based on his experiences as a writer, and also posts based on what this site (think of its name) is supposed to be all about. Also, he has a sense of humor.

FW, on the other hand, contributes his humorless, tedious adver-posts based on a calculated profit margin, derived from poaching confused "clients-to-be" looking for answers on an anti-scam site.

Also, not to reopen old wounds, but I believe only one of these two contributors has been admonished by the site's mods, and is here on a tenuous, conditional basis (hint: this person is also not really a lawyer).

You'll pick up companies to apply for if you stay with the board for a while. Lots of them come and go. Whether they are legit or not is ultimately up to you to find out through trial and error. This place can provide some clues, but experience is your best guide.

Given my situation in the U.S., I know that I would be shut down immediately if I scammed the wrong client with the slightest inclination to take legal action.

Just for the sake of counterpoint, this makes me remember Gus, AKA Pheelyks, a Cali-based extortionist banned from this forum fairly recently, and then, as far as I know, banned again. However, he continues to do business, through his own website as well as by crawling around showing his belly for scraps on Essaychat (someone may want to fact-check me on that; I don't like the virtual smell of the place). Gus liked to rat out his own customers to their universities over payment issues.

I also worked for a US mill several years ago which extorted problem clients periodically. They're still doing business, as well.

It's easier for some people than others. As I've posted before, I can see the allure with some of these clients, because there are nightmare clients who, if I had had that power... I'm just glad I'm not on that end of things. It happens... this is an industry of shadows. It's an underbelly, no matter what your nationality. The stringency of the law is just a filter.

I get the feeling that you could charge a lot more as an individual writer than with a company, because I find that most companies want their lion's share. Most of the private work I've done has been just for friends, so I've charged them the same rate as I've gotten with various companies, or sometimes a little less. But I get the feeling I could have charged 50% more and still would have beaten some of the mills on price.

I've found that the bigger hurry a customer is in, the more they are willing to shell out.

You can get a good idea of what kind of company you're working for by its administrative and customer service extensions. Like anywhere freelance, it's a minefield with a lot of duds, of course... but that metaphor doesn't do it justice. Mines don't suddenly appear one day where they weren't before, rob you, and skip town.

Plagiarized CopySo what's it going to take to make it as lucrative as it once was?

Turnitin is the main culprit. They have the most extensive databases. Writecheck is just a partial version they own, and smaller sites share the rest of the distribution. If Turnitin goes, they all go.

Are the plagiarism sites collecting and redistributing the essays that they claim to check for plagiarism?

As far as I know, Turnitin doesn't redistribute, only collects and then cross-checks. Some unethical term-paper mills have services or side-businesses offering commercial plagiarism-checkers which redistribute checked essays. These have also suffered lately, due to the severe decline in popularity of pre-written essays.

I'm also curious what it would it take to purchase one of these defunct sets of essays?

You'd have to talk to an essay company owner who has one. A good bargaining chip for you is that as long as Turnitin.com's around, the set of pre-written essays is virtually worthless.

I'm just a writer and ESL teacher. I posted because, like all legit writers and companies, I have a lot of free time during the off-season, and I enjoy using a small part of this time to expose arrogant scammers who cloud up a sometimes-legit site like this one. Based on your apparent incompetency with UK English, I wonder how you're so busy during off-season yourself... but please, do us all a favor and don't tell me. You've embarrassed yourself enough.

Really, WB, you always choose to go out on this limb with an English teacher. Yes, "in."

"I see a lot of myself in you," for example, is something you may often hear, since you don't appear to have a very secure self-concept.

No. Why don't you try spamming Essaychat, or, better yet, begging in the street? You already have the complete lack of shame, and you may find it more profitable.

DSK, I would like you to just settle down with the rhetoric, which actually alienates customers just as much as a pushy, arrogant street hawker's shrill, annoying cries, and answer a few questions.

1. Why isn't your site's English quite right in its idiom?

2. Why doesn't your "live chat" work?

I'm really looking forward to seeing your response!

P.S.-- "Live chat," in standard, global English, does not mean, "email."

Extortion is a serious undercurrent in this industry. Garbage attracts its like, and then... attacks? I've never understood it, although one could imagine, given some customers, extortion as a sort of instant karma... but what a slippery slope! Lone wolves can get away with it better than companies, because of word of mouth, this site (corrupt and flawed as it is), etc. It shouldn't be part of any legitimate customer service experience.
